Welcome Aaron from Randleman, North Carolina. We have a lot in common. My "shop" isn't much bigger than yours. I am retired and as I age it getting to a point I am very limited with my woodworking because of health. I was a ham years ago W8RSK (call not active anymore). Scroll sawing is a great way to keep busy. So my friend, keep during "things", and ask questions. Some great people here in our Village here. Jim

I have done this a few times when I need a part to be thinner and I have only a thicker stock but I cut it in my band saw.

My wife is an artist and has painted many pictures of heron through the years. We have over 11 herons types that live here in North Carolina year around here. Most on our coast. I showed this to my wife and she said (and I agree) " Beautiful.. outstanding art work, excellent". A few years back I made a ship hatch cover (re-production) that my wife painted a Great White Heron. She sold it for a lot of $$$ at a fine art show. If I can find the picture I will post it. Again a great job

I logged in and down loaded a free plan that I didn't have. Site worked ok for me. Thanks BadBob and edward for reminding me of Lloyds. I have purchase a few plans from them before but you know "out of sight, out of mind"LOL.

I have used Gun Stock Oil on gun stocks many years ago. Good stuff but not sure on the stuff I make. Will give it a try.

I do a lot of stack cutting. I have tried about 3-4 different brands & types of double and really didn't like any of them. Any suggestions???

The pattern that I am looking for is "Tropical Beach Scene for Summer 2023" And is supposed to be a Steve Good pattern. Any ideas?

I seen on a few videos and postings of different projects that I would like to do, and some say it is a “Steve Good” plan. I would like to buy some of these plans from Steve but I can’t find many. I purchased a thumb drive (2007-2024) from Steve and have used some. I find Steves’ plans hard to find on his site and/or thumb drive. Is there an easy way to search on his site/and or drive how to find these plans? Is it just me or am I missing something? I wrote to Steve about this problem, but he has not replied. I do known Steve is busy and I place not fault on him as he has replied to me before.

I use a sewing machine LED with magnetic base lamp (I have several of these in my shop on other tools). I have prescription reading glasses that are rated a 175 but for scroll sawing I use a good quality 250. I like the better quality because the leanse are clearer than the cheaper ones.

I just got back into scrolling about 2-3 years ago. I had and older HF that I purchased about 10 years before but knew that I needed a smother operating and pinless saw to improve my choice of available blades. I went to a woodworkers show and tried a few up scale saws but didn't want to break the bank. I purchased a Wen LL215, 21 inch I think they still sell for about $375. I am very happy with that sa and no problems. But even since then there are a a lot of lower priced saws have come to market. PS i'm 81 now!.

I too am 5'6" tall. I was told by a a old time woodworker for me to start out by that standing-up straight with your arms to your side and bent at the elbow. He said that should be your bench height. I believe that should be a good starting point. I like my router table higher than that at about chest height standing. My scroll saw is with a bench slanted to chest height at a sitting position.

Wow I learned a new word today "fretsaw". I had to look it up. If a saw doesn't have a motor attached I don't use it. LOL

Me too, at 80 it's hard to learn new stuff. A few years back I got CNC machine, bought a special table for it, set up a water cooling system, paid a young CNC guy to spend a day with me to show me how to use it. And a week later sent it back at a shipping cost of $100. And that was 5-6 years ago....now AI! No wayLOL

Good idea, but I'll give it a try. I use (used) USPS, UPS, and FedX boxes when I make a pattern for wood toy making. Easy to store and free.

I have purchased maybe 3-4 scroll saws over the years and have removed the guard. But, I would not suggest that a new scroller remove the guard as they will soon find out why others removed the guards.

For a couple years now I use a Wen 2156 and I built my own bench. I don't believe Wen had a table available at that time. I looked at DeWalt stand and others but didn't like any of them so I made my own which cost me $50/$60 dollars for materials and I really like it.
