  1. Plus it can be rolled off to the side when it's not being used...
  2. I was looking at commercial planer stands for my new 734 but anything else added to my small shop has to be kept to a minimum so I made my own. at 33-1/2" high and only 22x16 it's a tad top heavy so I need to be careful rolling it around too fast and not hit a bump. I would have to be going pretty fast for that to happen but that height is perfect for using it and for my work bench. The best part is it cost less than fifty bucks in materials.
  3. Thanks... The choice of painting it black was once again over thought, being I'm such a spazzz. I have to keep reminding myself of the saying "keep it simple stupid" I had a small battery powered turn table and at one time I thought about painting one side black and the other white.
  4. Well the weather finally got past fifty the last few days so I had to take advantage of it and get into the workshop to scroll. Too bad I didn't realize the rectangular hole in the base pattern was too big for the project before I cut it. After modifying the size, cutting it again, and spouting some choice words I finished it up...
  5. The problem I had with the pattern design was the bite taken out of the surf board was on the side of the board not where he was being attacked and it was too large. Ive thought about turning the surfer around and have him being chased instead. It's not easy being me..
  6. I'm guilty of being one of those people who over think things to death... That being said, I kept looking at the latest project of the stick surfer meeting up with the shark. I just didn't like the bite out of the surf board on the side so I had to cut it again without it. Should have thought about that before I glued the little guy to the board though... A razor blade got him removed with very little sanding. With the board re-cut I think it is more of a believable image... Holding off on the glue until I'm "really" sure!
  7. Just getting by cutting the patterns, now I need to learn how to modify them.
  8. You are right, it wasn't easy to see what I was cutting so I had to avoid moving into the white area. Now all I need to do is study ink scape and buy a color printer!
  9. You are correct Frank, patience is definitely not a strong point. maybe the blade is too large because there's no way to get a sharp corner, at least I can't. Pattern called for very small hole in some places and blade wouldn't cooperate getting through without bending. I'm still learning with flats so I'll stick to that for now. Enclosed is copy of pattern.
  10. I did a little practice with spirals for the first time a few days ago and it wasn't much fun attaching the blades, finding the correct tension and trying to guide them where I was hoping they would travel. Today for my second attempt I tried out the Olson "flat end" #2 41TPI on a pattern of my action hero Clint. Getting the blades in the holders was a little better only to bend them trying to fit them through the drilled entry holes. Then it was still hit & miss getting the right tension and me trying to cut straight and curved lines and of course braking a few blades along the way. It was a little nerve racking cutting the close together curves holding down little sections wanting to bounce around. There was a ton of fuzzies to "carefully" remove and I'm glad it's done and I didn't destroy it. I decided to forget about using spirals and concentrate on practicing with regular blades so I can get better with them instead.
  11. Wow, bet you are anxious to get started on that gem... I'm looking forward to 65 degrees but hardly do anything outside except maybe some sanding.
  12. It's been hard to get motivated to get in the garage workshop to work on anything lately. So I printed out a few patterns and psyched myself up to get off my butt and do something constructive... Unfortunately the temp in the garage was a little chilly. Even though I could fire up the heater and get the air temp up to almost tolerable, I'm not wearing gloves on that cast iron scroll saw table... Oh well!
  13. I saw the green option in SG's pattern posting but couldn't decide on a color. I had different color construction paper but it wasn't vivid enough. I ended up just using my go to rigid black felt. Should have spent more time cleaning up those inside corners of the honeycomb which took some time to cut using 3/4" basswood. This design had so many different possibilities to try out. One day I'm going to learn how to use resins. I had this vision of filling the honeycomb with yellow resin and amber in the bee's interior cut outs. So many different things to learn with so little time....
  14. It's hard to believe these mfg can't come up with a way to make their spiral blades have flat end so the consumer doesn't have to go through a ritual getting them clamped...
  15. Another SG pattern finished... Didn't want to add any wood to the back for a hanger and take away from the clean lines. Couldn't be free standing since it was front heavy. So, I glued black felt to the back (Glue stick) found the easel back of an old picture frame, cut it to fit the back and used double stick tape to mount it. Not unique or high tech but it is what it is...
  16. I tried the Olson #2 41TPI a little while ago and gave up trying to use them. I spent more time trying to get the blade in the holders than I did scrolling anything. The top was straight and flat the bottom of the blade is turned so it wouldn't fit into the holder unless I took a pair of needle nose pliers and turned it straight. I tried beating the ends on my vise top but I no longer care to use them any longer. I will stick to regular blades from now on. People that like them, more power to you but I'll never buy any more.....
  17. My bad... I told ya I didn't know what I was doing. Yup, I had the blade in upside down. I still use a magnifying glass when I get regular new blades since my finger has trouble with the reverse tooth blades. I'm not a fan of spirals yet!
  18. I thought that but looking at the blade with a magnifier I couldn't see any difference.
  19. I've had this tube of 12 Olson spiral 41TPI blades for months and decided to try them out on a 8x10 scrap of 1/4" BB A good thing I had a dozen because I bent and broke half of them since I didn't have a clue what I was up against guessing the tension, etc. I don't understand why the pattern side has more tear out than the back, which is now the show side??
  20. When the top of my 788 gets rough I sand it with 400 then 800 then 000 steel wool then wax paper....
  21. Very nice!!
  22. Can't figure out my free version of that program...
  23. Tried resting the wrists and that was helpful, thanks. Right now it's a little uncomfortably cold in my garage and that cast iron table is a bit frigid
