Started one of his newer ones today didn't realize how fast I'd get it done basket of flowers walnut not sure if I'm using his pattern for basket i made one side out of sapele and oak strips since I have loads of strips of those species the other side will be Spanish cedar not sure if I'll cut the holes or just leave it solid since I like the oak and sapele for front facing

Never making any layered products out of hard maple I can't seem to cut close enough in turns in 3/4 hard maple had a hard time trying to correct bad cuts by sanding much easier using soft woods its done I'm leaving it and chalking it up to lack of talent and experience with hard maple 9 and 7 blades were difficult for me can't all be winners
-
Started this bus pattern this morning im stupid I decided to use hard maple instead of something like poplar cutting 3/4 hard maple is not easy for me with lots of turns i think I'd do better with regular 7 and 9 blades I only have reverse tooth blades in that size only got 3 layers cut gotta get ready for celebration today but not sure how I got hoodwinked into bbq'ing for everyone anyway will post progress next week and I know there will be plenty of sanding involved
-
On a lot of cuts that needed sharp turns since I was using a 9 blade I just backed out and cut them all like that 3/4 inch maple

Some naughty word scrolling my kids and grandkids are here Sunday they won't last on the buffet more then a minute just keeping busy for one more week then we babysit for 6 straight days and then we leave for a month
-
Made a door topper today only took 2 hours had a piece of oak with holes but placed the pattern and didn't hit holes used some leftover walnut ply for back Some family members saw this before and I promised I'd make them each one so I'll stack cut Spanish cedar with whatever ply I have for backing
-
My son will and I'm sure has the manual when he'll get to it I have no clue nor do I really care as I doubt I'll ever use it and most likely leave it at his house he has the room for it and might use it one day or maybe not
-
Neither of these two came out that great xmas tree puzzle Santa is too tight blade must have drifted should have used a 5 blade instead of 3 Spanish cedar i might try one more of them model t layers gluing up were off a bit sanded as much as I could poplar body sapele wheels just have to move on and stick it on a shelf
-
The saw was taken apart today a bit the tension system only lifts to tighten to loosen while turning knob I had to press down so it moved my son feels it's fixable so he took it home the only part other then that is the blade holder on top
-
Made in China so I'm already guessing it won't be worth to fix unless it's only 25 dollars worth of parts the tinkerer has a hoarde of parts so I'll let him examine it anyway i remember years ago a metal gear broke in my powermatic bandsaw and powermatic part was 20 bucks We ordered the gear from e replacement parts for 2 bucks and my son took the saw apart and it's worked better since so I won't lose faith until he tells me it's not worth the effort

This is a machine I purchased originally but had too many problems as the shipper sent me a damaged machine hoping I'd let it slide i I got full refund immediately and shipper told me to keep it i tried to give it away to someone who can fix it and own it after no responses I put it in shed and today I got it out tomorrow my son and his father-in-law is coming tomorrow for bbq and my sons fil is a tinkerer he has fixed many machines and resold them my son said he can fix it and with his fil help I believe they can im just not willing to invest that much so before they get here a few questions where is best place to get replacement parts for an excalibur next I made a list of what I know is wrong or broke first the on off switch is hanging off but I have foot pedal plugged in and it works fine with that so on off switch doesn't bother me if not simple fix nrxt the blade screw in knob does not screw in and hold on top obviously the piece needs to be replaced prolly a simple fix if not expensive next no knob on variable speed control but it works fine again don't need the knob but simple fix no the real problem the tensioning system /knob does not work either way tighten or loosen that could be a major problem so any suggestions are welcome Now if anyone near Nassau count wants a crack at the tensioning knob and knows what they are doing I'll treat to lunch and dinnet otherwise I'll let the two of them take it home since it would only be a backup machine I'm not willing to put more then 50 bucks in parts Any suggestions or help is always appreciated

Keeping busy beats sitting around doing nothing

Made the dog bank this morning had to sort through the bins again and not each piece was exact thickness but not noticable Once again this project was made with only pieces from previous projects cutoffs and scraps the piece of pine I used as base had a slight warp of around 1/16 th but I used it again no one will notice specially two kids all sapele with a piece of poplar on front door
-
And there's a lot of scrap bins I'm going to have to start some intarsia to use some of it up so it doesn't go into firepit
-
Keeping busy till I leave for nc and tenn some more good patterns rummaging through bins and shelves made all this from leftover pieces and cutoffs forgot buttons on Santa's shirt so I glued on some black teddy bear eyes worked well
-
I never pin nail stacke I do use screws but they are never extending past bottom sheet ive noticed since I stopped using wrapping tape to tape pieces together the scratch marks seemed to stop I'm thinking when cutting through packing tape a slight tiny splinter might be getting stuck to tape and scratching up the aluminum surface tape frays on bottom of the piece is on for a bit with a lot of cuts incould be wrong but I've never had problems like this with 18 years of bandsaw use and table saw use some scratches but nothing even close to that but then again none of those surfaces are aluminum
-
Finished ended up using pine since I had a piece left and I don't build anything out of pine but it works well for signs poplar painted letters oak handle axe with walnut thin entire project was made with pieces out of bins from leftover pieces 3 coats polyurethane out of rattle can not a lot of scroll work just letters which I was able to cut fast with 2/0 blade 8 and 3/4 by 15
-
This one is not a Steve good pattern I think once I sand letters paint them and mount them on I'm thinking a piece of cherry as I have a lot of cherry left it will be fine

lookiing for a scroll pattern for axe thrower
Allen levine replied to Allen levine's topic in Scrollers Q&A
Thankyou I never looked there the axe thrower is an attorney a very high paid works for a top firm in Florida makes more money then I ever did at that young age but she hinted she doesn't want anything lawyer related so I'm going to have to spend a lot more time cutting out letters and a lot of painting I hope she appreciates it
