I made this piece from Steve good this morning i I need to make the base and sand and clean i decided to cut off the hat on Santa and make it out of bloodwood and aspen only that part

We are babysitting 3 kids this weekend my 10 yo niece came over this morning as her parents had a 6 am flight she did some diamond painting with my wife and I made her name she loved it timed it took me 23 minutes to plane cut and rout base fun project

Skipping over my projects you're not missing much i just figure it's all same designer might as well stick them all on one thread today I'm cutting names of the kids and mounting them on maple both nieces took theirs home already even though they were damp with lacquer the kids like it as it isn't easy finding custom made stuff with their names

I got my new patterns today from Judy gale Roberts and I'm quite sure I'm in over my head They are huge and the more pieces the more room for error having said that it's only wood and unlike money it does grow on trees ive been going thru my lumber racks i received a huge order of wood from my supplier 50 bf of walnut 50 bf of wide Spanish cedar even though I have tons of 8/4 Spanish cedar it's narrow 75 bf of poplar i have mountains of sapele cherry and hard maple not stuff for scrolling but I use it here and there today I just picked up 24 linear feet of red cedar and 16 linear feet of white cedar i have an order coming in tomorrow of 12 linear feet of butternut 6 linear feet of blood wood don't recall how much aspen and a box of mystery scraps of exotics im set for the next few years of intarsia now I just have to get busy my first project starting next week is the Rottweiler puppy on pillows by gale roberts today I have to make a monster truck ramp for the kids to play with their cars im proud of my grandson he got on the bus today a practice run to start kindergarten next week i promised him if he does a good job I'll have the ramp ready I hope everyone is out enjoying this weather inwill not be doing any work as we have not only my grandkids tomorrow we also have my great niece so I'll be busy till next wednesday one cool note my grandson is attending the same school I attended when I started kindergarten I'm happy it's not the same teacher

Seems Judy Roberts company uses the post office and I may never see the patterns I ordered as the post office in ny is totally incompetent so now I have to get downloads and waste half a day running to staples for copies or find another site for intarsia staples is a zoo and the wait is impossible but they can't file a lost mail claim for 20 days then wait for po eh no patterns to work on so I did another quick good download this morning letting it dry and maybe one more coat of spray lacquer cherry with a pine base

Finished just letting oil cure and glue cure before I attach piece to frame

reindeer are on steve good p;atterns, downloads....trees, I just free hand drew the tree, measured different size ornaments and drew different sized trees.....pictures of all styles are on the internet....I made a few quarter inch plywood templates for different trees and I just trace them onto wood....even if the tracing is off, it wont be noticed.

I was happy when I made first frame because I had a leg from a hall table I made that was not needed originally this hall table had curved front aprons with 5 legs while Dry fitting it all I fell in shop grabbed onto the table and my weight snapped all the tenons so instead of recutting all this curved aprons I just made it all straight but of course the first frame was too small so that didn't work out oh well

Must sleep more I made first frame too small then made a second frame and it was also 1/2 inch too small but I can use need to sand frame tomorrow and apply tung oil but tomorrow I can get busy gluing it all in place i laid all the pieces in frame to make sure it will fit and look ok nothing is glued or centered correctly just showing color contrast hopefully this piece will be done by Saturday or Sunday I have a nice frame for future use

Paint drying glue up will require patience tweezers and some luck bsckground will be light shade of blue will start making frame tomorrow I should have switched colors on bottom flowers pink on left side but I'm not repainting at this point

Making large hummingbird pattern Small parts made pin board to hold parts for painting too small to number some so glue up will be slow and tedious what else do I have to do

All finished ready to go not sure when she's handing them out since it's only August but I have no safe place in shop to store them found one bandsaw reindeer

Best thing about these small projects mis cuts or burn marks just some tung oil it hides it all no fussing and everyone seems to like them my Jewish friends want to know when I'm making them some holiday stuff

So this is where I'm at made 24 trees 3 were taken to Florida this morning even though the oil was still damp(friends were driving down so it was easier for them) I offered them 2 his wife took 3 and refused to take the ugly green ones I had from last year i sprayed some white paint on them let the green show theough no one wants them burn pile just need to out hooks and ornaments made 5 Steve good reindeer they took one also not oiling them had 2 different ones from last year not sure where I found that pattern i have some bandsaw reindeer in a box somewhere if I remember to dig them out of attic soon must have given away 250 bandsaw reindeer over the past 10 years no one wants one anymore i have a 2 and a 4 year old coming tomorrow morning till Sunday night i expect to need at least 2 days next week to rest after having them sleep over thr 4 year old just learned how to ride a 2 wheel bike so I know I'll be in park with him in the heat he already told me grandpa I wanna go ride my bike and he wants me to set up the sprinkler and the slip and slide Silly me I thought my wife was my only boss

Every six months or so I just go thru and make a box or two for kindling and give it to a guy down the block who goes camping with his kids and he loves having dry kindling if I didn't I would not be able to get into shop its only good for intarsia because most small pieces I can't resize on saw or planer

This is a small tree that hangs a 1.5 inch ornament i just free hand drew it from pictures cut a template from 1/4 inch ply i could stack cut 2 at a time but 1 inch of hard woods is easier for me to just cut one at a time

My boss has me making 20 trees and I need approx a dozen reindeer since nothing meaning furniture is coming my way to build I need to keep busy and these little scroll saw projects will do just that glued together any scraps to make trees got a bit to go reindeer will all be Spanish cedar tbis one reindeer needs sanding just trying on different bells and chains gotta lot of scraps but don't think I'm putting a dent in the pile water bottle in picture to show size

You're correct I just searched his patterns using fish as search and I did not see it not sure what to tell you it was there when I did it not sure why it's gone there are similar sculptures there

I just sit sometimes and scroll thru (pun intended) all his patterns if I'm watching a game or a movie

Finished sprayed a few coats of lacquer and she will be playing with it tomorrrow some cuts were slightly off but I'm not telling her since she's 2 and won't notice i increased size so had to make adjustments for some fitting since I didn't increase thickness of wood i gave my wife wrong measurements for cradle mattress again I doubt my granddaughter will complain grandma and grandpa aren't perfect i started an intarsia project this morning a sunflower in pot and I won't be finishing till I get home next month but it will keep me occupied till I leave

I thought I'd be busy for a few days but I finished off the cutting just now of this doll cradle still needs sanding and fine sanding then glue up alot of cutting ended up using a 3 blade because of all the tight turns broke one blade all pieces are 1/2 inch i increased the pattern by 25 percent but think I should have went to 50 percent since a lot of dolls are 12 inches or more nothing is glued or sanded in this pic just put together so my wife can quilt a mattress and blanket I used what I had Spanish cedar and poplar when I get back from vacation I'm going to place a big wood order and possibly order some exotics online
