Started one of his newer ones today didn't realize how fast I'd get it done basket of flowers walnut not sure if I'm using his pattern for basket i made one side out of sapele and oak strips since I have loads of strips of those species the other side will be Spanish cedar not sure if I'll cut the holes or just leave it solid since I like the oak and sapele for front facing

Never making any layered products out of hard maple I can't seem to cut close enough in turns in 3/4 hard maple had a hard time trying to correct bad cuts by sanding much easier using soft woods its done I'm leaving it and chalking it up to lack of talent and experience with hard maple 9 and 7 blades were difficult for me can't all be winners
-
Started this bus pattern this morning im stupid I decided to use hard maple instead of something like poplar cutting 3/4 hard maple is not easy for me with lots of turns i think I'd do better with regular 7 and 9 blades I only have reverse tooth blades in that size only got 3 layers cut gotta get ready for celebration today but not sure how I got hoodwinked into bbq'ing for everyone anyway will post progress next week and I know there will be plenty of sanding involved
-
On a lot of cuts that needed sharp turns since I was using a 9 blade I just backed out and cut them all like that 3/4 inch maple

Made a door topper today only took 2 hours had a piece of oak with holes but placed the pattern and didn't hit holes used some leftover walnut ply for back Some family members saw this before and I promised I'd make them each one so I'll stack cut Spanish cedar with whatever ply I have for backing
-
Neither of these two came out that great xmas tree puzzle Santa is too tight blade must have drifted should have used a 5 blade instead of 3 Spanish cedar i might try one more of them model t layers gluing up were off a bit sanded as much as I could poplar body sapele wheels just have to move on and stick it on a shelf
-
Keeping busy beats sitting around doing nothing
-
Made the dog bank this morning had to sort through the bins again and not each piece was exact thickness but not noticable Once again this project was made with only pieces from previous projects cutoffs and scraps the piece of pine I used as base had a slight warp of around 1/16 th but I used it again no one will notice specially two kids all sapele with a piece of poplar on front door
-
And there's a lot of scrap bins I'm going to have to start some intarsia to use some of it up so it doesn't go into firepit
-
Keeping busy till I leave for nc and tenn some more good patterns rummaging through bins and shelves made all this from leftover pieces and cutoffs forgot buttons on Santa's shirt so I glued on some black teddy bear eyes worked well
-
Finished ended up using pine since I had a piece left and I don't build anything out of pine but it works well for signs poplar painted letters oak handle axe with walnut thin entire project was made with pieces out of bins from leftover pieces 3 coats polyurethane out of rattle can not a lot of scroll work just letters which I was able to cut fast with 2/0 blade 8 and 3/4 by 15

This one is not a Steve good pattern I think once I sand letters paint them and mount them on I'm thinking a piece of cherry as I have a lot of cherry left it will be fine

-
I back in and out of a lot of cuts especially when I'm cutting into 3/4 sapele or cherry as I can't turn right corners
-
Started another pattern today this one I stacked some left over cherry and walnut 1/4 inch ply and the 3 blade seems to be doing ok with my hands today so I'll see how it goes im mounting the fishing plaques on blue painted pine have a look
-
Tried a 7 couldn't make the turns tight enough
-
More Steve good downloads the door topper was simple the plaque was torture for me i easily broke 20 blades i took a 5/4 piece of sapele and sliced it on tablesaw first then to bandsaw to finish slicing got two pieces approx 3/4 inch between them and used 3/4 inch screws to hold them together close to cutting areas i wasnt sure what size blade the lower i i went the easier the turns but kept breaking or bending i settled finally with several #5 blades a few from pegas and some Flying Dutchman I will mount them after some tung oil onto I'm guessing a piece of round ply and paint it blue the blue ply in pics are scraps if I had wider sapele I would have enlarged the pattern it's above my pay grade and though some won't see it there are tons of errors Steve good I apologize for butchering such a beautiful funny plaque

a more curvy font
-
On my third attempt this morning bad words were shouted and I decided after making too many mistakes I'll leave this project for now and come back when I make things easier for myself i I need to make a more curvy don't because those tight cuts are tuff with my hands I need to use softer wood sapele was a chore and I saw why i had this stopper it had some damage on the screw part so before I threw out this last one I cut it the shape of wine bottle and it will sit on someone's wine shelf as only a display piece I didn't compound this one I was done and I have way too much family coming over shortly to start my day off aggravated

I most have made 150 of them with my lathe a lot of those layered colored plywood alot of acrylic ones I never made one that wasn't spun on the lathe

Bottle stoppers don't have to be round right?
-
I decided to rest my sore shoulder and start cleaning out shop drawers today got stuff in there I haven't seen in a decsde i found a gold colored bottle stopper kit i gave all my turning kits to preacher who bought my lathe this one was buried under other stuff so I decided to make a stopper with wine compound cut on it had no clue what I was doing and it didn't come out good my hands were unsteady today ill give it one more shot tomorrow but will shape it like a wine bottle
