  1. I decided to rest my sore shoulder and start cleaning out shop drawers today got stuff in there I haven't seen in a decsde i found a gold colored bottle stopper kit i gave all my turning kits to preacher who bought my lathe this one was buried under other stuff so I decided to make a stopper with wine compound cut on it had no clue what I was doing and it didn't come out good my hands were unsteady today ill give it one more shot tomorrow but will shape it like a wine bottle
  2. Here's my mini spidey he'd dress like this every day if his mommy let him
  3. I made this with instructions from my 4 and half year old grandson spidey is his hero everything he wears his water bottle his shoes his backpack his bike it's all spidey inhad alot of spidey stuff from years ago like clocks trash can pen holder I'm glad I took it out of attic and gave it all to him this was a quick build painting is not my thing and once painted it fits together as is no more sanding he wanted web shooting cannons on top he got it almost 5 inch wheels as I showed the original wheels and he said bigger I'm waiting on stickers if I can use water based lacquer and get them to stay on I will I'll practice on another piece of painted wood if not I hand painted a spidey face I'll attach to front im not an artist but again he's 4 he won't care if it's not perfect Bumper guards were white but I wanted some color so used what I have
  4. Big wheels the humidity is brutal nothing will dry tomorrow I'll cut the light guards/bumpers and the web cannon on top hoping I can glue it all up and get it ready for him Saturday
  5. 4 sets of wheels later, I finally was ok with the wheels I made for the spidey truck. I clamped it together, sanded it best I could and started painting individual parts. if glue up is off, its off, paint touch up will be near impossible since its spray paint, hes 4, he wont notice, this build is strictly for him, I need to make light guards and he wants a spidey web shooting cannon on top, but I want to have it usuable by saturday when my family comes here for dinner. i have stickers, and Ill try attaching some coating with lacquer to see if they hold in place, Ill experiment on a piece of scrap wood tomorrow, if it works, Ill put them on next week. Ill attach some pics tomorrow when Im out there. Ive never painted seperate parts and then tried to glue up straight, will be interesting. btw, he showeed me what he wanted, it looked like a pregnant volkswagon bug, but he has an old toy and it looks like that....I didnt care...I made the wheels super large because he wanted them really big grandpa, he spread his arms and got excited so I told him ok, big big wheels
  6. I started a new one yesterday. my woodworking buddies over on another site tell me from experience something like this truck will be too fragile for my grandson to play with. like the first steve good download monster truck, it only took him 15 minutes to snap off one of the smokestacks exhaust pipe. not a big deal, I shouldnt have put them on....and this beach buggy, the axels are 1/4 inch, and the support holding them might be too delicate for rough play. so Im making him his favorite, spidey, Im using all poplar, because the entire truck will be painted red and blue, with black tires. I didnt use steve good tire pattern, even though its great, Im just puitting red hubcaps on all the wheels, I used a 2 and 1/8th forstner bit, to cut out inside of wheels, took a chunk of skin off my thumb yesterday when I tried to hold the wheel and the bit just caught it and spun it, ripping off some skin and I bled like a stuck pig.....had to endure 20 minutes of my wife screaming you need a stitch or two.....but I told her when we went to endocrinologist today, if it looks bad, Ill have him elook at it.....it looked like it was healing already, so eh. when Im in shop tomorrow Ill shoot some pics of my progress, painting with spray paint is tedious as each section needs to be painted before glue up....much easier just using wood and no paint.oh, I made the sides that hold the axles 5/8th inch instead of a 1/4 and Im using 5/8 th thick dowel for axle instead of 1/4 ich, I dont think he can break that too easily, although he is a little monster.
  7. Made 2 door toppers today before seeing them on Steve goods site I never knew there a thing called a door topper one needs a bit more lacquer the other needs some light sanding and then glue up and lacquer sapele and cherry it's what I have a lot of bad day in shop broke 5 blades and bent a few not sure why I struggled guess it's just one of those day less then 6 hours to slice up 5/4 cherry and 5/4 sapele and cut and sand/assemble both or at least as far as I got in have to make a doggie layered planter I've been commissioned pretty funny I don't have a plan for the golden doodle whatever I'll just wing it as I've made so many layered characters and all we're fine inckuding bluey blue farm animals and rubble if you don't have little kids around you you won't know them again sorry bout the poor pics
  8. thanx
  9. I also have a lot of cherry so I'm going to try to slice up some for a couple of door toppers for Xmas I need two for the cousins coming next weekend and then I'm done with Xmas stuff I've made over 300 bandsaw reindeer and wooden Xmas trees with ornaments to give away each year but this year only if I'm asked I'm not using any more wood for those giveaways
  10. I have a lot of 6/4 maple that I don't think I'll be using for scroll work and I don't make boards anymore nor any furniture projects coming up so I shaved it down for a base all finished sorry about the poor photos but it's clear enough to see gold chain with all attachments were 6 bucks and I have enough gold chain for 2 lifetimes my wife did all the chain work reins lines bridals what ever they are called she did a good job but wasn't happy she had to leave her sewing machine now figuring out where it's going to be stored until my daughter figures it out for her house storage all those stick figures sitting on the mirror might be gone after next Saturday as we are hosting a lot of cousins aunts uncles her for the day and I know they are all going to take one or two home the two with babies are being mailed after babies are born soon rudolphs red nose is temporary until I get a shiny red ball or find one buried somewhere in a drawer
  11. We were supposed to go to Morgantown pa this morning after our doc visits but my wife's friend passed yesterday and the wake and funeral is tomorrow and Thursday so I'm home and I've been in the shop most of the day lately with this great weather I'm hoping by weeks end we will hook the rest of the lines give the reins to Santa and glue it all on a platform and put it away till the season
  12. With my wife's help got some chain and bells on the reindeer in order to preserve my marriage we will tackle the main line or reins another day My hands can't do it not even with tweezers

  14. Wow that is fantastic and the humor is great can I steal it and make one? did you make the pattern or purchase it?
  15. After this I will post a bunch together when they are finished so don't need to waste space with each piece took me a bit over 3 hours total sapele and base is hard maple best part about this piece is I used cut off a that were damaged and in waste bins had to trim off cracked section but had enough sapele went right to edge of board but fit 3 coats rattle can lacquer asked my wife to hold a paper towel so you can see the writing I'm not a good picture taker nor do I have a set up for pics my daughter is a special ed teacher
  16. Thanx for kind comments
  17. Steve good download took me 2 hours 30 minutes including painting rose red will attach to base and spray some lacquer tomorrow when paint has cured a bit Used poplar and base is sapele nice quick project and I'll put my grandchildren's name on back to their mommy - my daughter she loves this stuff
  18. Finished added a surf board rack not glued on so I can remove it made a wooden board but I wanted some color as spicoli would say knarley dude for my shelf in the future I'll add a jet ski on a trailer
  19. I cut new wheels today went from 3/4 inch Spanish cedar to almost 1 and 1/4 sapele and it was a difficult cut using a 9 blade still need a touch of sanding and I need to glue the wheels on prolly spray with a bit of lacquer to darken it up water bottle in pic to show size i might add a surf board rack on top with a board
  20. So this is where I'm at its not really a monster truck as my grandson calls any suv with huge tires and raised high off ground i m trying to remember the beach buggy that was a modified jeep grand Cherokee body that the kid let my grandson go in on the beach in st Augustine florida i recall some details but it's just a wooden model i out a stick shift inside im not happy I didn't do something with steering wheel but one more time it's just a wood model laugh if you want I'm just having a little fun how does the song go? Boys just wanna have fun? im making new wheels 1 and 1/8 inch thick the ones in pic are 3/4 i will make rear light guards and put the spare 5 th wheel on back as the vehicle I remember had the tire on back it might block the rear light guards but hey its only a model i need to do some light sanding to get rid of excess glue most of the glue stuck my fingers together I'm stink at pictures so I took a bunch for most angles the guy in Florida had a double row of fog lights on top as well as a shovel gas can and 2 surfboards on top I'll skip all that
  21. I can't work on it this weekend got the little one but he can't seem to keep up with his grandpa I have to remake the wheels they are too thin for the look I want
  22. i was already told the wheel supports grain orientation might make them suseptable to snapping off, but this one is going on a shelf in my office, noone, not even the monster boy coming over tomorrow gets to touch it. so it should be safe when its done
  23. Inside without body panels
  24. I got this far today this weekend is gone as I'm picking up the 4 year old little monster and he expects his old crippled grandpa to give him uninterrupted attention morning noon and night I made it a four seater with space in between seats I'll put a shift stick in when I do the dash board and ateeeing wheel and some dials it will get a roof rack some fog lights light guards and whatever else I can make nothing is glued or sanded and I tried to hold it together with tape for a pic outer panels are sapele 3/8 th inch outside body parts are Spanish cedar 1 and 1/4 and inside body part is poplar 1 inch used a Flying Dutchman psr 9 blade for body parts and psr 7 for sapele panels the 7 blade was a bit aggressive maybe could have went down to a 3 but I'm learning have a look
