  1. I use excel. It will print out across multiple pages. Tape the pages together with clear packing tape.
  2. This site alot of information you need about the subject plus some. its alot of reading but should solve the issue. http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/DewltTuneUp.htm
  3. I do it all the time, here is an example. I dont bridge the pieces like in a sillouhette, I save them and put them back in and glue it all to backing.
  4. scan the pic first. once its on the computer I use excel to make it bigger. it go across multiple pages if you want as well and print out that way. So even if its slightly bigger then one standard page it will print out a tiny bit on the second page. once you start using it you will be glad you did.
  5. On the bright side it was a nice day and you were inside and could smell the sweet scent of burning wood. always a nice smell, not the end of the world. its just a couple of small pieces of wood. we really have a nice life when these are are troubles.
  6. I have a cheapo aquarium pump that works way better then the bellows system that comes with the saw.
  7. If your blades were all rusty like mine this would not be an issue. I didnt have to do anything to get them rusty either, just left them by an open window!!
  8. I was just fooling around looking at saws on craigslist and stumbled across a dewalt 788 for $135. Called the guy and went over and bought it no questions asked. it is like brand new, still has the sealant coating stuff on the table and the original blade in it. Just keep your eyes peeled and you can find something of great quality like this. I have had mine for years with zero troubles. i also dont shake it to death. I usually cut only 1/8" bb and use 2/0 blades on the slowest speed. had an old delta shopmaster that i used for years and it was fine but it was a bit shakier even at slow speeds. Once you start getting into the finer details you will need the better saw because they are built better. Would over a hegner but just out of my price range so will keep looking on craigslist for that once in a lifetime deal.
  9. My set up is near a window so all of my blades are rusty now. n oway to clean them off other then using them. at least no way i am going to use. some do seem a bit more brittle then others but hard to say.
  10. use word and make a blank page what a drawing object. you can select an oval and just strecth it to whatever size you want and it will do the math for you. if you dont have word then a free program like it will work.
  11. jealous I am.
  12. Man i am out of touch. i dont even know what a wedding card is.
  13. So thats a "less" paul.
  14. The true measure of a scrollsawer in my opinion is stars and lettering. you have tackled both in one piece and it looks great.
  15. The skulls arent for everyone but the people that like them, really like them. sort or like crosses.
  16. Makes me wonder if we can power something with rubber bands like this. Makes the wooden gears in my brain work.
  17. Fantastic, you even included the horses! great work.
  18. I thought it would be fun to make a vegas sign. That was about 3 months ago at least. Cut it out and didnt like doing it from the very start. Dont know why but it just never came together right for me. You know how it is, a little off on this line here and little over cut on that line there and it just adds up. Finally painted it all and put it together but the background aka sky portion was not painted right. had to tale it apart, paint it again. That took another month as i was a bit miffed with it. So finally got it the color I want, brought it into the house fr glueing, fit it all together again and what do you know, a tiny piece is missing. i know it was there when I painted it again but a search turns up nothing. Take it apart, now have to make another exact tiny piece to fill that whole. Did that, fits good, just have to put it all together again and glue the backer on. Glued the backer on and pressed it nice and flat last night. Look at it today and right away a bunch of tiny pieces fall out as well as half the sky portion. Glue it again, ok, finally like I need it except for one thing. Forgot to paint the tiny replacement piece that I remade. Now its all together and of course thats the one piece that didnt fall out. Going to have to figure this one out as its spray painted. The worst part about these type projects is that everyone else will love it and want one just like it.
  19. Maybe its all a matter of how scared you get when the blade breaks when you are in the zone. Its always at the worst possible moment and usually gives me a start.
  20. Exactly, the white is some old bathroom tile, the black was a plate i found at the dollar store. had to buy the grout of course. For the teeth its just grout because it would be too ugly to see a bunch of busted tile teeth i thought.
  21. Figured I would try my hand at this.
  22. Goes without saying that the Navy one is the best.
  23. I go through a ton of blades, they are just a disposable tool for me. no time for sanding and polishing and all that.
  24. Looks very nice, good work. there are a couple things to do to prevent the stray pieces from snapping off. One is the type of wood you are using. regular plywood will have filler between the layers and is not very stable when cutting small pieces. baltic birch is pretty much the go to for scroll sawing. next would be to notice that its the unsupported pieces that will snap so its the up and down motion of the blad on that long unsupported strand that will make it snap. Easy enough to remedy that by just putting a finger over the long piece to keep it in place. also I like to cut out the longest pieces last because they will snap off just from the spinning and what not when cutting all the other pieces out. Last would be the blade and the speed. fast is not always better. i saw on the slowest possible speed and wish my saw went slower. just gives my more control. just work with it and you will find what works. great start .
  25. Good to hear you lik ethe new saw. Takes some getting used to for sure. i bought a foor pedal from harbor freight and really like it. You can adjust the blade tension know itself. You can look it up but basically you remove the know and under it you just rotate this thing and out the know back on. Did it with mine and now i adjust to 2 max.
