retirement rocks

well I retired a little over a month ago and have finally caught up with honey do and more I do list. during that time I had a dental issues, unexpected guests and then a entire wheel came off a cement truck doing 60-70 mph and the wheel managed to hit a little driveway light 2 houses down miss a tree, a suv, broke and head light on the neighbors mustang and displace about half the end of my house. It pushed the walls inside out of place breaking the base boards and tearing carpet. At least the house is brick which probably stopped it from going through the house and thankfully 10 feet to the east and I would have had it as a bed partner. I feel blessed and fortunate. well this week I was in the shop and managed to make 6 work plagues, 35 compound bird house ornaments, 3 crosses, 2 other ornaments and a welcome sign with 1 Attended children  will be given an expresso and a kitten. All cut and finished. Boy that felt good and I am pumped now. Going to the Zoo tomorrow.

As you are playing with your power tools, PLEASE stay focused and keep this event out of your mind.  Sooooo glad everyone is OK.  My Dad (RIP) used to say, "As long as nobody has to buy flowers for a funeral, it could have been worse.

Well i'd say so ,what brand coffee was that you drank?Watch out for the monkeys ,they have tricks of their own like slinging stinky stuff at you and then laugh about it.I can't waitb to see the bird houses, they have me intrigued to try  some. Your burning the midnight  oil.Keep them coming!

Glad nobody got hurt with the wheel. Sounds like you are in overtime cutting in the shop. Interested in seeing photos also, those bird houses sound like fun. Enjoy the zoo, like others said, watch the monkeys as they are not always so cute when they start throwing stinky stuff at you.

So glad that no one was hurt, that is the main thing.  Sounds as if you wouldn't have time to go to work now because you are sooooooooooooooooooo busy.  Hope you continue to enjoy it.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet this time, whew! I have been retired 2 years now and eventually you'll be busier than you were when you were working. I think people figure you can do this or that because you have nothing else to do. Enjoy the animals-avoid the monkeys.

thanks for the comments. I hate to admit it but I do not have a program for pictures in my computer. I have taken some. I will see if my wife will help me out so I can down load and post pictures. they are in my Tablet just have to put them some where. I really got to figure it out so I can share.

Well Thank you Dan for that interesting story! I had a blow out on my truck it frightened the life

Glad only property was harmed. Geez, I plan to retire on Halloween. Maybe I should pull my retirement package!   Actually, a change of careers! Leaving the VA after 20 years.  Hopefully, I'll have another job before leaving the VA.  Anyway, y'all have fun!

Sounds like if you want things to continue as normal, one needs to not put changes in their lives.. Maybe you should go back and see if you can get your job back.  Just kidding, I have been retired for 13 years now and I am loving it. Once I learned to slow down and relax, that is.  

 

What a story. I too am glad you are fine.  Any more exciting stories come your way. be sure and let us hear them too

Hear that sound?  That's the collegiate vacuum sucking all the money out of my pocket.  I've been retired for 3 years and my wife retires in June, 2016.  We'll have two kids still in college for a year and a half. Watch out for late arriving children!  It should be worth it as they've promised to stop by the nursing home once in a while and empty our drool buckets.     Yes, retirement still rocks!

Dan, congrats on retiring, and thankfully no one was hurt with this wheel incident. It happens more than you may think, a buddy of mine had a rear two wheel assembly demolish the end of his house. Luckily him and his wife had gone to bed, because where the tires came through is where they normally spend their evenings. The driver didn't even stop, but according to some trucker friends of mine, he may not have even noticed that it happened. It all depends on what set of wheels it is, my friend kept the wheel assembly in case the driver came back.

thanks for the comments and the repair has started however slow. A young man came out and took out the wall last week and now waiting on the carpenter to put wall back and repair the two studs that were broke. then the Mason will start his brick work which will take a while to save the brick they can and clean up to use again and blend in with any new brick. I did call a couple of trucking companies locally and one was missing a wheel on that day and came out to verify it was their wheel. They took it and now the insurance companies will work it out. The restoration company is recommended by both and is an international company. I Hope we are all back together by snow time.
