I know the feeling.  Had something similar happen to me 5 years ago (genius boss claimed it was because my marketing strategies weren't bringing in enough customers....I'm in IT, not marketing, and his advertising budget was "you should have found a way to get someone to pay US to advertise our shop").  Is there another department you can move to within the same company, or another company with similar job across town?  Regardless of what you decide...you and yours are in our prayers.

I spent 20 years with a now defunct electronics retailer and in the beginning of the downturn in 2007, he decided that since my customer count was declining, it would be a good time to cut salary expense by replacing a senior manager with a fresh new trainee and save the tenure bonus. First day he was there he drove a powerful radio control car through a plate glass window (that's about $800). Then the team I had built and trained started looking for other jobs and the new guy ended up with an entirely green staff.

I understand the future may not look right, but changing vocations was one of the best things that happened to me.

Hey Jim I will pray for you as well. I have had this happen as well the hardest thing is that neither time was it due to poor performance as it is for you. Keep your friends and family close and things will work out. Scrolling and woodworking Help a lot.

I spent 26+ years in aviation but never had the passion for it. I finally found my passion and love getting up a 5 a.m. and don't mind working late or weekends. I would have never thought such a career change would be possible. Don't be afraid to jump from job to job until the light comes on.

Sorry to hear that for you Jim. Puts a real damper on your holiday season for sure. The good part is they gave you a few months notice I suppose. I hope they are able to give severance packages to those losing their jobs. I pray that you can find a new door opening for you as this one is closing.

I was informed this morning that after working the same job for 35 years, my job is going away. My last day here at work will be Feb 28, 2019. Not too sure what I'm going to do then. I have always gotten up every morning and went to work.

Jim

Evidently  you are not yet ready to retire and settle down??? I worked for 43 years and looked forward to retirement and glad I did. I worked in construction and that was hard work so for me it was time to relax and not have to do the 5 oclock wake up thing. Wish you luck in finding a new job. When one door closes another opens.

Yep been there twice one closed and moved to another country the other made me redundant after 18 years because the boss wanted his friend in the company but he ended up getting the sack funny how karma comes around and then I went back there for another 18 years and retired. Just get yourself out there don't just send a CV visit them let them see you, they can only say go away to many just write and expect it to happen. Make you CV stand out put it on parchment paper. Believe me it works. Never give up.:thumbs:Roly

Thanks everyone, I'm still in the numb stage I think. I don't know what I'm going to do as of right now. Lost all of my retirement 3 years ago and the company that took us over didn't offer any benefits. So no there is no retirement for me at this time.

Thanks, I will be back later on.

Jim
