Dennisfm56 Posted December 30, 2019 Report Posted December 30, 2019 I figured this group of folk might have some knowledge in this area. Starting to feel what is most likely arthritis in my hands, which is not surprising give all the factors. I have had a knee and hip replaced so I do know the feeling. Any little tricks? Do those "copper" gloves work? How about a wrist brace while asleep or scrolling? Anything else, besides just suck it up, buttercup? I'm just trying to be a little proactive, not really bothering me right now. Thanks Quote
Foxfold Posted December 30, 2019 Report Posted December 30, 2019 I use something called Movelat Gel, It's an anti-inflammatory gel that I rub on my hands. It seems to help me. That and trying to keep warm as I find my hands are a lot worse if I'm cold. Dennisfm56 1 Quote
merlin Posted December 30, 2019 Report Posted December 30, 2019 A bit like you Dennis I just suck it up Have tried numerous creams and gels none make a big difference. have just got a couple of wrist/hand strap thingies with piece of metal to keep the wrist straighter but will see. Sycamore67 Posted December 30, 2019 Report Posted December 30, 2019 If it gets bad, there are anti-inflammatory rx creams that help. One of them is Voltaren which is an NSAID. Dennisfm56 1 Quote
kywoodmaster Posted December 31, 2019 Report Posted December 31, 2019 My wife takes a CBD capsule at bed time. I has worked wonders for her. Dennisfm56 1 Quote
ChelCass Posted December 31, 2019 Report Posted December 31, 2019 I am riddled with arthritis and I take Glucosamine which you can buy at walmarts or any pharmacy. It helps a great deal. I wouldn't be able to walk without it. Like others have said there is different creams you can use. Heat will also help to ease the pain. It's a matter of trial and error to see which works best for you. Quote

RabidAlien Posted January 4, 2020 Report Posted January 4, 2020 Try switching to an ergonomic keyboard/mouse, as well, if you spend any time on the computer. They take a little bit of getting used to, but have been proven to help with arthritis' bastard cousin, carpal tunnel. I know some folks at work (IT field) who have arthritis and use them, they spend all day long pounding keys. Dennisfm56 1 Quote
Sycamore67 Posted January 4, 2020 Report Posted January 4, 2020 You will certainly get lots of advice about what to do to help your arthritis. I will add one more for you to consider. If it is causing you significant issues, you could see a doctor. They can do xrays or similar and get a good idea of how advanced and offer potential ways of helping you. I want to protect my hands as much as possible as they are a valuable resource. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted January 5, 2020 Report Posted January 5, 2020 (edited) My hands cramp terribly these, I don't think it's arthritis but whatever it is it's like a charlie horse in the palm of my hands and incapacitates my hand until I can stretch it out. For my Carpal Tunnel (30 years on the computer took its toll) I have 2 wrist splints I use when it gets really bad Now, don't laugh at this suggestion but I know this first hand from when my mother was alive. She was a wheel chair bound invalid for many years suffering from arthritis, diabetes, gout and more. She was due to have one of her legs amputated and I made this same suggestion. Her and my dad purchased the product exactly as told them and began using it twice daily 4 weeks before her scheduled followup prior to amputation. The Doctor was amazed at the recovery and the positive turn her leg had taken. So much so he delayed the amputation and pre-surgery follow up for several months and told them whatever they were doing, keep doing it. 15 years later, her illness was too overwhelming and they had to remove her leg - but again 15 YEARS later! I use this product as does the wife for various things - the product is Aloe Vera Gel - 99.9% Aloe Vera Gel - nothing less. We also have several Aloe plants we use for cuts and bruises - break off a frond and apply the sap directly. The cuts disappear within days. I hope whatever you do, works for you - I know first hand what bad arthritis can do to a body and it's not good! Best wishes and health to you Edited January 5, 2020 by new2woodwrk RabidAlien and Dennisfm56 2 Quote

LarryEA Posted January 5, 2020 Report Posted January 5, 2020 Aloe Vera is rich in antioxidants such as and vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, and it contains seven of the eight essential amino acids. Aloe Vera is a proven natural healer. Aloe Vera sounds good to me. As for CBD, a new a well advertised 'unknown'. Here is what I have read" CBD include nausea, fatigue and irritability. CBD can increase the level in your blood of the blood thinner coumadin, and it can raise levels of certain other medications in your blood by the exact same mechanism that grapefruit juice does. A significant safety concern with CBD is that it is primarily marketed and sold as a supplement, not a medication. Currently, the FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of dietary supplements. So you cannot know for sure that the product you buy has active ingredients at the dose listed on the label. In addition, the product may contain other (unknown) elements. I have just started on "GENACOL", that is scientifically proven to maintain joint health. I will find out its benifits. new2woodwrk and Dennisfm56 2 Quote

I've seen a hand specialist and he agreed that it is probably early stages. No real finding on the x-rays. It's not advanced and I was asking what people here have done that has worked for them. The doc said splints, NSAIDS, and creams have helped others. I was wondering if he missed anything. I totally agree after your eyes I believe your hands are your most valuable asset. Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted January 6, 2020 Report Posted January 6, 2020 "my hands are a lot worse if I'm cold" When I'm in my shop I also have those little hand warmer packs that I put inside my gloves to keep my hands warmer. At first I laughed at the idea, but . . . . What ever works, right? Russ Dennisfm56 1 Quote
