Popular Post scrollerpete Posted January 17, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted January 17, 2021 We have been without a proper kitchen for over 7 months, renovations have been delayed due to COVID. My wife wanted a new kitchen table, so I came up with this, made with walnut and maple, finished is Rubio oil. Can hardly wait until we can put it in the kitchen. The installation of cabinets will start on Monday the 25th but might have to wait until end of February for the granite countertops installation. Ken Lotts, barb.j.enders, Dan and 9 others 12 Quote

teachnlearn Posted January 18, 2021 Report Posted January 18, 2021 That is gorgeous. I've considered making something like that but my wife loves to puzzle. Any flat surface can have a ongoing puzzle. We had one old garbage kitchen table. She couldn't resist puzzling on the large surface with her large puzzles. Couldn't move the puzzles, so I had plexiglass cut. She puzzled and we put the glass down to eat and look though at the puzzle. Such beautiful work would end up under a puzzle. RJF 'The table was so bad it was tossed in a move'. We will be eating on the floor til I dream up something. RJF meflick 1 Quote

preprius Posted January 18, 2021 Report Posted January 18, 2021 I would like share what my wife came up with on kitchen counter. We we shopping for granite and then mentioned that you should not set hot pans on granite. So we saw these porcelian floor tiles. I ask if we can put floor tiles on counter. He said yes. So we did kitchen and bathrooms counters in wood looking porcelian. They can take lots of heat. Cheaper than granite also. The tile seller says we were the first to do this. teachnlearn, barb.j.enders, RabidAlien and 1 other 3 1 Quote

I’m not sure if you were misinformed, misunderstood, or the person you were talking to did not know correct information but there is no problem putting hot pans directly on real granite. In fact, that is the main appeal for most people and why they get granite, the ability to put hot things directly on it. We have granite in our kitchen, it is soon to be 16 years old. We have regularly put hot pots and pans on it over those 16 years and never had an issue or damage. It looks as good now as it did when first installed 15 years ago. we have a second kitchen area in our basement where we did not want to go to the expense of granite and like you, we took porcelain floor tiles we were using elsewhere in the house and put those on for kitchen countertop there. We then took extra wooden flooring we had and put it down for the bar area above the kitchen counters and it looked good. Our builder was pleasantly surprised. Y it I think. yours looks good. Pete, a beautiful table that I am sure your wife loves. Getting materials and supplies right now for remodels, new builds, etc. are a nightmare thanks to Covid. My daughter was having a remodel done, took twice as long mainly due to waiting for materials and supplies. We waited two months for a new stove. Quote
