Due to some hand swelling and all around pain, I haven't been able to scroll saw much. But, with an hour here and there I finally got this guy cut out and I'm trying to decides a backer board.  I want to use this piece shown with the raw edges cleaned up and a little shaping on the straight edge side.  Plan to cut it in an oval shape.  I kind of like the one that is tilted and I am leaning in that direction.  Wanted to get your thoughts on which one you like best - out of curiosity.  Haven't decided if I will paint the cross or leave it natural.

Thanks for your feedback!!

P.S. this pattern was hard to cut out.....

Love the pattern and your work! I prefer the natural wood. Question is the backer Pecan?

Thanks. I like the natural look too.  The backer is the same as the rose, just spalted a bit. It is all Alaskan birch.

I'm not quite liking the idea of a live edge backer.  The cutting is so exquisite and so well done it needs a VERY formal placque as a backer.  Possibly oval shaped with a beveled edge.

The Birch is not a very light bright color wood in itself and if darkened slightly with stain, a VERY light colored wood backer  with little grain would make the cross pop.  Worth checking out Ocooh for some ideas.

In this case I don't think painting is appropriate.  However, based on others work shown lately  some red epoxy in the rose and green epoxy in the leaf vains would be an outstanding addition to add just a little color. With epoxy fill you might not even need a backer at all.

Just my thoughts.
