I get aspen at Menards and it is sure white. If you can't find any I am sure happy to ship you some.

Dave, when I wanted some white wood for angel wings to contrast with a walnut body I found a piece of basswood at a local Amish lumber mill that worked well. Nice thing is they sell "shorts" (up to 4' long) at half the bf price of full boards. You don’t have to haul home a large board if all you need is a small piece.  They also had some pretty white maple.

My first choice would be holly, but as stated earlier it is expensive. Have you thought of basswood, or poplar? Both of those are very light and would cut really well on the scroll saw. Just my 2 pennies.
