AUTOMILE Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 I’m doing an intarsia of my Boxer and I’m looking for the lightest color wood possible for his chest ect. Aspen wasn’t light enough , any thoughts? Thanks ! Quote
Sycamore67 Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 Holly is the whitest but very expensive. Aspen is a good substitute. AUTOMILE, danny and JJB 2 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted February 21, 2024 Report Posted February 21, 2024 I also say Aspen is probably the best second choice. I am using aspen on an eagle head prohect. I ordered it from Ocooch Woods and requested as white as they have. I think they did very good for me. That is a great looking boxer. AUTOMILE 1 Quote

Dave, when I wanted some white wood for angel wings to contrast with a walnut body I found a piece of basswood at a local Amish lumber mill that worked well. Nice thing is they sell "shorts" (up to 4' long) at half the bf price of full boards. You don’t have to haul home a large board if all you need is a small piece. They also had some pretty white maple. AUTOMILE 1 Quote

JJB Posted February 28, 2024 Report Posted February 28, 2024 My first choice would be holly, but as stated earlier it is expensive. Have you thought of basswood, or poplar? Both of those are very light and would cut really well on the scroll saw. Just my 2 pennies. Quote
