JimNC Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 I know this subject has been brought up many times, but I believe I have a new perspective to share. I apply masking tape to my wood and spray glue back of the the pattern then apply the pattern to the wood. Well, many times as I start my cutting the pattern has started to curl around the edges. So now before applying the glued-up pattern, I used 300-400 grit sandpaper on the tape. This just takes seconds, but the pattern stays in place a lot better. Seems like the higher priced tape is coated and doesn’t like the glue. I have used clear packing tape, but the LED lights in my shop reflects off it and bother my old eyes. rjweb Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Jim, I use 3M 77 and have never had a problem with the pattern lifting, but your idea sounds like a winner, Thx RJ Quote
Fab4 Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Hi Jim: Thanks for the info - interesting I'm still old school - Dollar Store Green making tape. Dollar store glue sticks add tape to the wood, add glue to pattern and tape, might be an overkill taping both the pattern and tape but it works fine. The reason for taping both, in case you missed a spot or two. Again, this falls under to whatever works for you. To each his own Fab4 barb.j.enders, Jim McDonald and danny 3 Quote
Archer Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 I use glue sticks too but I don't bother with tape. Here in Australia where I live the heat melts the tape adhesive into the wood fibres and clogs up the sanders. Glue sticks sand off easy and leave no residue. I used to use spray adhesive but glue sticks sand off easier and peel away less when cutting. Quote
