Cut using live edge walnut. I’ll probably sell it. I don’t hunt deer but I liked how it turned out. Finished with semi gloss poly.

This is the third chess set I have made using the scroll saw. Black Walnut and soft maple. Chess pieces were cut on my Hegner with Pegas #5 MGT. I went through 43 blades. It took me roughly 50-60 hours to make. Finish for board and box is shellac/alcohol, 50/50 split, applied using French polish method. Same finish was applied to chess pieces using a rag and tiny brush. A shout out to Dave Monk the master of chess sets for his input. IMG_6438.mov

An Alex Fox Basket C21 Modified. I used 1/4" solid Walnut 8" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT Blades. After sanding each ring with a Mac Mop, glue one ring at a time. When complete, one coat spray Shellac, another light sanding, and one coat spray Lacquer Clear Gloss. Comments welcome.

I haven't been doing much-making things in the shop. There is much broken stuff. I made these fluffy kittens today for a custom order. Nothing fancy, just some cutouts for her to paint. I cut them from a piece of premium pine from Home Depot.

I have seen this done on here before so I decided to give it a try. I am celebrating my daughter's birthday tomorrow and I needed a box to put her jewelry in. It really was a fun project to do. It is a Carole Rothman pattern. I used walnut for the box and Holly, Purple heart, Canary wood and Bloodwood for the ribbon.

They've sure been busy it seems like this year and getting more tricky. I usually can tell and the more recent ones I've had suspicions but replied anyway. Recently had a message on my website about how they planned to purchase about 100 items and they put together a google doc. list of said items and wanted to know if all items were in stock and the ones not in stock how long it'd take to get a order fulfilled. I currently have my website through etsy so the message came in across my phone as a Etsy message as the website works just as if it was etsy as it is sort of, LOL. Anyway I was busy working on the laser machine so I didn't reply right away and by the time I did come in the house to look at the message on the computer etsy had removed the message and marked it as spam ( good to know they also do this for my website messages ). I looked into the spam folder and found the message but decided not to open the google doc link. Couple weeks ago I've had a few messages from my Facebook business page one was asking if a item was still available as they didn't see it on my website. I sent links to them showing the item page and they replied back with a screenshot of a page showing the page wasn't available and maybe the link was broken or had been deleted and asked if I could sell directly. I replied back and said the link seems to be working but sent them a link to my etsy or amazon for the item and said I do not do direct sales and they could order from one of the other sites. All messages have stopped and no order came in for said item.. I had some friends check the link for the website as it was working for me, everyone chimed back saying yes it was working. Being on FB I looked up their profile and it seems like a legit person from the states in Kentucky.. What was they after? A lot of people sometimes will message me asking to do direct sales.. in some cases I'd like to avoid the fees from the selling sites but at the same time I sell on several different sites and prefer to sell through the sites because it's easier for me for bookkeeping and everything as they are all linked together.. if one site is down there are many others I sell on so there is no reason for a person to not do a purchase through Amazon or any other of the popular sites.. why do they need to do a offsite purchase? I could send a PayPal invoice but that is extra work for me as well because I have to create a invoice.. why do that when there are all these other places to order from.. I always decline selling in these instances if they can't buy from one of the sites then there is no business.. I don't know what info or what they would gain from me from a scammer standpoint if I was to take a venmo or other payment.. I suspect they just get me to send a item and want to send a check or money order? I don't know.. either way no business with me if it's not through the websites. Many folks are eager to get a order and would fall for this or go the extra mile to work up a order / payment page etc to help customer out.. and they may be getting scammed.. maybe not.. maybe I'm missing out on orders by doing this but I don't care honestly as I said.. it's more legwork to create a invoice when there are plenty of other ways / sites for them to order what they wanted.

So this is something I've been messing with on my laser cutter but I don't see any reason someone couldn't do this with a scroll saw.. though you'd probably need to be a pretty good with the scroll saw to make it work correctly. Look at how you can cut several lines into this 1/8" BBply and then you can bend it right around a corner. When I first run across this type of work I thought no way that really works so I had to purchase a laser file ( also comes in a printable PDF for those wondering ).. so the design could be printed and cut on a scroll saw. The designer has many different things like clutch purses etc.. I'm not sure how the designer quality of the particular person I purchased this design is as I'm having fitment issues so they are sort of working with me on a fitment flaw of their design. For clarification the design comes made for several different thickness of plywood and they designed this maybe they tested with 1/4" but the 1/8" version is off I don't know but the one I used is not correct to work right.. hopefully they'll fix the pattern and make it right with me.. But anyway back to my point of this bending right around the pretty sharp curve by just cutting several relief cuts.. I've not seen anyone doing this sort of thing with a scroll saw.. I may have to try it on on the scroll saw just to see if I could do it. Btw: This is a card box if you didn’t figure that out. Edit: Guess I should have uploaded the pictures.

Went to a Estate Sale and picked up 13 4x4 x 3/8th thick sheets of Luan plywood for $13.00. Hubby didn't waste any time putting them in the car. lol. 450

You need to make one, fill it with cookies, take a picture of it and caption the picture; "come to the dark side, we have cookies" This is a cross over between the burnt edges of the laser cut and the dark side of the Sith.

Don't know what part of Michigan you're at but you should come get a free stack of rough cut walnut from me.. I have about 5 stacks waist high that was given to me.. If I didn't take it they were going to put in the wood burner.. I've tried putting it on FB marketplace last year for $100 per stack, and not a single person messaged.. I'm about to burn it myself.. I've been giving some of it to my future son-in-law as he toys around with woodwork stuff.. I'd like to make some space in my shop for my new laser so going to be selling off some tools and moving this walnut wood whether someone takes it or I burn it.. by mid - late summer it's going to be gone one way or another. I hate to burn it as there is lots of good stuff there.. I'm just tired of the space it's taking up and I'm not doing much working with wood anymore as I'm going into the laser dark side, LOL

Me too, at 80 it's hard to learn new stuff. A few years back I got CNC machine, bought a special table for it, set up a water cooling system, paid a young CNC guy to spend a day with me to show me how to use it. And a week later sent it back at a shipping cost of $100. And that was 5-6 years ago....now AI! No wayLOL

I have tried a few times to have chatgpt generate a pattern for me. Even showing it very explicit examples it failed miserably. The best I do is using inkscape to trace a photo which is faster than I can do by hand. P.S. I used to work on an Air Force Base on the computer simulation trainers. Each corner had a 5MB hard drive that was bigger than a washing machine. It was freezing in that place but after a time you would get used to it. Fun times, I'm not sure if we have advanced for the better. People are dumber and they ask the computer do the work they should be using the computer between their ears to solve.

For my 2 cents worth, I really like that idea. My thinking would be to remove the sewing machine, maybe add another top over the orginal to both cover the hole from the sewing machine and to add a bit of strength to it for the scrollsaw. What saw do you plan to put on it? Again, beautiful stand! Chris

Thank you. It’s very easy to lift out the board. I was concerned about that, so I made it so that the board is set in only an 1/8” or so. The board is 13/16” thick. (I was expecting to have to plane it. ) Good point about warpage.

X.com is where I use it. There is also a grok.com. This is Elon Musk's AI. I also use ChatGPT, Gemini, and the built-in Gramerly. Grok is by far the best. If you are on X, you can use it to analyze posts, and it also does trends. Grok is very good at writing code. I gave it a short program written in a very old version of Basic that they used in the time when computers used tape reels and everything was printed on paper because there were no monitors. I asked Grok to convert it to a bash shell script that I could run on Linux. Not only did it do the conversion, but the script worked right out of the box. I have tried this sort of thing with other AIs, but I never got code that worked. This morning, I wanted to teach it how to draw a scroll saw pattern that didn't work even after I uploaded samples.

Thanks everyone. I purchased the pattern, should have it in a few days. Also already have all the wood needed. Today was my last day of work for the next 4 or 5 weeks, I have some surgery planned for the 25th. A few days of rest after and I should be able to get into the shop. I need to finish a rocking horse that I am currently working on before starting the Stork. I have a wand for my Dremel and many bits. With all of the sanding tools I have, I should be at least able to make it resemble a Stork! LOL

On X dot COM. go to the menu on the left you will see it. After generating 4 images, what I find interesting is you can "edit" an image you like to keep refining it.

i started scrolling 30 years ago. started on a dremal 3 inch blade saw, graduating to a ryobi 16", then the yellow machine. old yeller finally bit the dust after replacing the pcb, potentiometer, brushes and motor over the years. i saw this saw at HF and blew right past it thinking " yeah right!!!". with old yeller down, i needed a solution fast. after researching and eventually finding these reviews from a sight I actually trust, i'm finally going to pull the trigger on this hf saw. i did portraits for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame when they had new inductees. Scrolling has not only become my favorite form of wood working but has also shown me how to look at the world and myself inside. thanks for the reviews. Brady Jones, 2 Roosters Gallery.

Went back to the Estate Sale and got the other wood. 5 4x4 1/2 in., 2 slabs of 2 inch and a 8x2 1/4 inch luan plywood plus several misc short pieces that will be perfect for ornaments, all for 8.00. What a deal. Hubby is really happy about the two pieces of slab wood not sure what type wood it is. He will run it thru his planer and clean it up.

As most of you know I picked up the Bauer 22" from HF a few weeks back. I upgraded the blade holders to the Pegas shortly thereafter. Started my first serious piece this week. Russ Beard's Viking Warrior ( # 2023-038). I can say the Bauer is doing great. I'm cutting with a Flying Dutchman Polar 2/0 running at about 4 on the speed dial. On my Delta P-20 I was totally a top feed guy for projects like this, and the Bauer does fine ( especially after I upgraded to the Pegas). But in trying to venture outside my comfort zone and put the Bauer through its paces I'm doing more bottom feed on the Viking. And I gotta say it's going pretty good. The pin at the back that holds the arm up holds it high enough that seeing the entry hole on the bottom of the piece is quite easy, even as small as they are ( using a #71 drill bit). As you can see I have a short dowel handy to release the pin to let the upper arm drop. All in all the Bauer is doing great!

Ok so I got a bit ambitious and I'm learning that just because I like a project doesn't mean I'll do a great job im using cherry for top layer sapele for middle layer and cherry ply for bottom layer i will make a sapele simple frame if and when I finish and it's worth framing I used a Flying Dutchman 2/0 blade but I snapped 2 of them so I gave a Dutchman 1 blade a shot and it was near impossible for me as it's like a piece of hair and I snapped one so I moved on to a Flying Dutchman 3 blade and didn't snap any this is where I'm at its not a disaster but I had a lot of blade drift even after I changed up tensions and got different pings I'm pretty new to this stuff but I'll keep going i startted cutting the middle board a bit cold out there so my time is limited in the shop

The .5 clamps work better with the smaller blades, less breakage. If the blades are breaking at the bottom, it's probably a lower clamp issue, if they are breaking in the middle then it's likely a technique or overheating problem, if they are breaking at the top then it is likely a top clamp ( either regular or quick clamp ) issue, if the breakage is random then it's likely the blade type or size .

I purchased a extra two year warranty, I figured if it would break or something I would be able to get a replacement. I don't want to rebuild a saw.
