  1. I have used other water based stains Danny and there generally is two things to look out for. One - oily woods such as pine, cedar and the like will not take the stain well. and Two - it will raise the grain of your wood. One thing you might consider is this with most, notice here that I did not say all, water based stains you can use denatured alcohol instead of water to do your diluting, or add a 50/50 mix. This does two things for you, one will help penetrate the oily woods better and two will dry much faster than if you used straight water to dilute. This would help keep the grain raising to a minimum. DW
  2. Very nicely done. That came out great. Personally I would recommend to him that he uses spar varnish as it has the best outdoor survivability. DW

  6. Those all look great. Most wood we use is not mono color but has areas that are different shades. If you do not tell someone that you "over sanded" an area who's to know but you? Personally I like it that way as rjR said it looks like cloud drift. Thanks for sharing these with us. We do not make mistakes... only unplanned modifications. DW

  16. Ray for a first go at scrolling you did great! You learned several lessons that are difficult to believe. One cutting a straight line is not as easy as it looks. Two - Spirals take practice and these too are not as easy to use as one would think. Three - There are many many of us addicts to scrolling out there, all around the world. Third as for breaking of blade this happens, however you can with patience and practice learn what causes the breakage and reduce or stop most of the causes. Fourth - Welcome to the Village. We all have been were you are now and have many many many years of combined experience. And this is one of the friendliest groups of folks you will ever wish to meet. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. DW
