  9. Welcome to the Village, and congrat on the new addiction --- scrolling. If you have any question just ask, someone will answer you.Check out the pattern library there are some very nice patterns there.
  10. I just finished this up yesterday. It was made for my dad. Overall it is about 27" long. The tractor is about 12 1/2" long. This was made from a pattern from http://www.toysandjoys.com. The pattern was reduced to 75% of the original. My dad asked me a while back (before the holiday rush) to build him some kind of a truck to hold a whiskey bottle. He wanted a box truck style kinda like the ups truck, but he was thrilled when I gave him this last night. He said it was even better. It is made from ash, with a small piece of walnut.
  11. I don't think I have one special project, I like them all equally for the most part but if I had to choose it would be my lockblade knives. They mean the most to me because I came up with the pattern after my uncle passed away. He was a knife collector and I was very close to him. For a non scrolling project it would have to be my soldier poem mirror I etched with all my service ribbons inset in the frame. Other than that it is all projects especially when given as a gift and their faces light up, it makes me feel real good.
  12. Whenever I can, I do. Whatever I can to make things go a little easier. But most of the time I put them up and forget about them if they don't get used often. The main one is a jig to cut the angle on the bottom of the flag case I've made.
  13. I am just finishing up a Kenworth truck for my dad. He asked me a while back, before I got real busy with the holidays. He wanted some type of a truck to double as a "whiskey decanter". I have a few more things to add to it then its ready for finish. I am building it out of ash that was giving to me. hopefully I will have pictures this weekend.
  14. Travis I used some 1/2" pvc pipe I had laying around as well as some small wooden balls to plug the ends of the pipe. I cut them to length and mounted them at a slight angle in a pine board that I fastened above my scroll saw. Now when I need a blade I just reach up and grab the one I need. For storage of extra blades I made a box from dwsudekum's pattern. The box is made from scrap maple I had, and some pieces of trim bought from home depot. There is more room for blades under the trays. The box is very handy and it is kept next to my saw, it is a little dusty.
  15. I just finished these up the other day and finally remembered to take a picture. These are the frames that I almost ruined. The buffalo is cut from 1/4" birch ply glued to an 1/8" painted backer. The lines in the buffalo are wood burnt. It is for the boy scouts also, the guy that wanted them drew this up, all the markings in the head have a meaning, most are initials of guys who belong to this group. Though I would share my "almost disaster" projects.
  16. good work Travis.
  17. I also have a mouse sander and random orbital. Since I bought the orbital sander my mouse has been in its case unused. I have not had any problems with the orbital. although if its turning at full speed you don't want to put it to the wood, it wil leave marks.
  18. excellent cutting Bill. very well done.
  19. In case you haven't heard Hawk tools have closed their doors. I just went to their website and it says they are closed as of 3/2/09. What a shame. I was looking into buying the G4 scrollsaw
  20. I was making several frames last night, when disaster almost struck. I got all the wooded ripped to width routered them and cut the miters. It was going real smooth until I went to put them together. The miters on the last corner didn't meet when I tried putting them together. I was freaking out I spent all that time setting everthing up so they would all come out the same that worked, to bad it was wrong. I checked my miter saw and it appeared to be set at a 45 degree angle, upon further inspection there was a small piece of scrap keeping it from locking completely into the 45 position. Luckily I was able to trim all the angles to a true 45, but I also had to trim all the pieces to be framed down about an 1/8". I got them all completely built after about an extra hour of work. So from now on I'll check the miter alot closer.
  21. welcome to the village Flip.
