  1. Looks great Gordie, Steve has lots of nice patterns to pick from. Len
  2. Tim, this is an outstanding piece of work, I'm sure Rosie's grandfather will be impressed with it. I'm a firm believer in using black for a backer color, but, sometimes I wonder if another color would be better to use. What do you think this sign would look like, if the backer color was a bright red? Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the way it looks now. This is just me thinking out loud, and asking for your opinion?
  3. Nice looking work Barb, the birds would look good if mounted in the upper corners of a doorway. Len
  4. Neat stand Gordie, it should hold the monitor at the right angle. Len
  5. Mark, I agree with Wayne's reply, it would be best to contact Charlie himself about the pattern. Len
  6. RJ, 5x7, 140 pieces? Yep I do think you're having a weak moment, but to each their own. I would use 1/4" stock for this one, it would help make the pieces more manageable. I think that with using 1/8" stock, the pieces would be to tiny. Len
  7. Nicely done Al, I like not having to get up and out on Monday mornings. Len
  8. Frank, it's hard to believe that you're a newbie. Judging from these four pieces, it looks like you've been cutting for some time. Len
  9. Gordie, both pieces look nice, but the Kim one does look a bit nicer. The adjustment you made in size, and the smaller hinge holes really seemed to have made a difference. Len
  10. Gordie, that's almost sacrilege, a Leaf's fan posting a Canadiens cutting. I never ever thought I'd see the day, that this would happen.(jk) You did a very nice job on the cutting, and the red paint looks really nice also. The Canadiens second color is dark blue, what would you think of painting the border that color? Mind you, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the way you have it now, I just thought that the blue would bring in the second color of their uniforms. Len
  11. Cute puzzle Don, the Danish Oil is a nice finish. Len
  12. Bill, it depends on the size of the sheets of wood. If I break a sheet down to the size I normally use for scrolling projects, then I lay them flat on a shelf. If it large pieces, I generally have them leaning up against the wall. If I lean them up against the wall, I try to do so without the sheet leaning a lot. I don't keep a lot of large pieces on hand, normally, as long as I have a piece that I can get a 24"x36" piece out of, then I'm happy. I do keep a fair amount of 1/8"bb plywood on hand, the pieces are 12"x24". Len
  13. Monti, if you can't find a place to buy the knobs made out of purpleheart, you probably could find someone to turn them out for you. Do you know any turners, they probably would enjoy turning them for you? Len
  14. Cool pattern Timothy, thanks for sharing it with us. Len
  15. Monti, it's a nice looking sign, it's to bad that the angel broke off. What type of glue did you use to glue it back in place, for repairs like this I use CA glue the Gel type. I find that using it, makes it a lot easier to place the broken off piece right where it belongs. It has to be the Gel type of glue, or the two pieces weld back together to quickly. And it doesn't take much thick glue to do the job, just a couple of tiny drops. Len
  16. Don, as long as you seal the cut ends on the MDF with a clear coat of some sort, you shouldn't have any issues when trying to finish it. The only time I have issues with MDF, is when I don't seal the edges before trying to finish the project. The surface of MDF has a coating on it, the edges don't. The cut edges will soak up finish like a sponge, and they are susceptible to swelling if not sealed. I use Min-Wax Prestain Wood Conditioner, or a poly/varnish mix, both do a good job of sealing it. Len
  17. Timothy, that's a nice looking sign, I'm very interested in seeing it when completed. Len
  18. Stu, good luck with the spiral blades. Len
  19. I have a shop set up in the basement, so it's comfortable to scroll year around. And if I could get my eye issues straightened out, I would be doing that. Len
  20. There's a lot of sanding in making one, isn't there? Especially, if you want a smooth sided dish. Len

Good luck Rusty, I hope you win. That's a good looking bowl, I see no reason for it not to win. I would love to get one of those lathes, but, they don't sell them in Canada. I might look into getting someone in Maine to have it delivered to their residence, then I could pick it up there and bring it back accrossed the border. The only issue with doing it that way, is the duty I'll be charged to bring it into Canada. Plus, I'll lose 30%-35% on the dollar which doesn't help with me making a final decision on buying one. Len
  22. Rusty, what brand were the first blades you were using? I've used the Crown tooth blades in the past, they were a nice working blade. I used them to do some 3-D cutting, they worked great for that type of cutting. I'm interested in what you think of the Olson blades, I didn't care for the Olson blades so I switched to the FD brand. Len
  23. Thomas, this is a very impressive cutting, how'd you get the dots on the backer? Len
  24. Nicely done Monti, it's extremely cute. Len
