  5. Hello, I read a great tip in wood magazines page 10 today and thought I would share the idea with you. It showed how to make a home made light box out of a plastic tote and you mount a light socket inside and mount clear acrylic on top and you can trace your patterns. But I am going to make mine out of plywood and be able to turn it on it's side and open the sides so I can use it for picture taking of my projects to sell. I just got done buying $64 worth of printer ink so it wont take any time to pay for it self. Kardar2
  6. Hello All, I really need to free up some space in my garage.I have a big office desk for my scroll saw. I hear that the metal stand really cut down the vibration. Have any of you made you own out of 2x4's or 4x4 ? Thanks for any advise. Kardar2

  9. Hello All, Hey I thought I would stop by and let you know how I am doing. A few months back I post questions about using a air brush to apply paints and finishes. Man it is fantastic. I would really recommend it to you people that never tried it. So this is what I learned on my adventure . Not all airbrushes are created equal! I started out by buying a Harbor freight double action airbrush "junk" for the most part it worked but when I went to clean it it was a head ache.I had to take the whole needle out and when I did the trigger would fall apart a and man it was a nightmare. so the last time I put it back together it would not work. So I was in search of a new one. I have been following a airbrush forum and learning along the way. I went out shopping, I ended up buying a Paasche "H" single action airbrush and let me tell you WOW what a difference it is from the HF one. The reason I bought the single action type is cause for what I do ( one base color). If you were going to paint mural on a car then yes by all means you would want the best that there is out there. the tip can be adjusted to a very fine line so you could paint eyes on your project. I use my big compressor out in the garage for the air brush. The compressor it is loud but it works. I am cheap I did not want to spend the money for a little bitty airbrush compressor. you must have a out put regulator on your compressor. you will only run around 30-50 psi... And less them 30 psi if you use the little gravity feed cup. I have found out that I personally like using oil base paint. I can thin it better than acrylic paint. but that is just me. you might watch some you tube videos if you think you might want to explore this. Well I hope someone will find this post useful. If you go on a search you will find that there is really no information for airbrushing for woodworking.
  10. Hello all, I thought you would get a kick out of this. The grandcritter came to spend the night last night and I was busy out in the garage working and my little shadow wanted to help. so here is a video of him on the scroll saw for the first time: http://s253.beta.photobucket.com/user/kardar2/media/20130106_130708.mp4.html
  11. Hello. I am going through all the inscape classes again and this time I am on a mission. I just made a name using english type. I had my wife help me with the Capital "B" andhad to wing it with the pencil to join the lines together. So now I am watching all the videos and see if professor Travis cover the subject on how to do this. I tried using all the little nodes but man there are so manyand when I tried to use them I made things worse. Well wish me luck If I don't return send in a search party. Hopefully Travis won't go catch me using spit balls. LOL.

  16. Hello All, So my son's girlfriend asked me to make a word art with a name. So we sat down to work out the details. She wants the letters like 5" tall. So I searched the post and amazingkevin mentioned resizing things with inkscape so I thought cool our buddy Travis shows us how to use it. well I cant to seem to get it no bigger than 144 pt. So I thought I would see how much rapid resizer cost and I saw a free trial..... Cool I thought! I can try it out first. So I down loaded it and it did it thing and all but then came the problem. I had a saved file of the name in Microsoft word starter. but when I went to get the file it said it could not be opened. huh. So can anyone that owns this program has this problem or is this a case of a limited program cause it is a free trial. thanks

  23. Hello Well I was went to air brushing some parts and the air blew the piece around so I was holding them and I painted my fingers. (no holes in the pieces To hang them) so I was thinking of getting o piece of ply wood with clothes pins glued to it. Or use magnets with the clothes pins and use it as a big message board when not painting..... Your thoughts??????
  24. If would maybe use oil base base enamel paint for durability or may be that krylon triple coat for a clear coat to let the wood grain come out.
  25. Thanks I but are using distilled water so you are using water base paint ? My paint is Quart can. I could see where you keep adding water you would have very watered down paint by the time you get to the bottom of can. Do you ever have this problem?
