  1. Kevin nice work as always. Your cuttings are real professional and well cut. Finish is great as usual. I am sure these will go fast too. I have to ask is the squeezed for time pattern available anywhere or something you made?? I like that one alot. Thanks for showing.
  2. that is a good upgrade.
  3. Irene what is the brand of tape you are using??? There is so many brands out there and the color system is not industry wide consistent and that is why I caution you to read the label and go from there. Scotch was the original blue painters tape and probably the one most people are familar seeing but even labels of companies try to mimic the original to trick you into buying.
  4. I better make this more clear here. Not all brands of tape are the same. Frog green tape is more stickier than blue and is used for lacquers and things like that so you can not make a blanket statement about which is which. Scotch too has a green tape that is high on the adhesive chart. Do not want to use automotive colored tape because that too is high strength. My point here is again not all tapes are equal and it is best to read the labels when buying tape. If you do not know what you have go to the store and find your roll and read the label. No need to buy. Maybe mark on inside of core.
  5. Nice work around
  6. nice cutting I like your style clean straight lines and nice fluid curves. I am one of those that always look for that stuff and I can judge the talent of the scroller.
  7. The biggest problem with small bandsaws like that is heat. Being it is a smaller travel distance for a smaller blade it has to work 2 or 3 times harder than a full size. heat will stretch those blades and the constant heating and cooling and they do not last long. That is why I would love to own a 16" Laguna. Also the blade guides are probably metal so as they run on the side of the blade they add heat. The motors are undersized but have to really work hard if cutting hard woods or acrylics Just food for thought.
  8. depending on company they will have a tact rating on the side of the wraper when you buy it. Blue is med range and green is light range. Less tact with green as opposed to blue. Purple is another low tact tape color. Some cheap companies just color the tape and means nothing. 3M is good along with Frog tape Never use plain tan masking tape. You will have a real hard time getting that off. The longer you leave tape on the harder to remove. Some people use heat to remove easier and some will soak in MS. I have no problem with blue. If I have a real delicate project I will use purple or green. Those are my thoughts on the subject. Please read my second post to explain a little more about how no two tapes are equal. So be aware of this and do not make a blanket statement. Sorry if there is any confusion. Read the labels to be sure.
  9. That would not work for me. I dip most my projects in Danish oil and the sealing of the wood with shellac would prevent that. But if it works for you then good to go. Many ways of getting the job done. Thanks for sharing.
  10. Why did you not look for the piece in the pattern when you took it off?? It was probably stuck to it being that is how it came apart. Did you use blue tape under the pattern or some other backer?? That is why it is a good idea to not adhere the pattern direct to wood. I use to to do that when I first started but finding out about blue painters tape on some forum many years ago I have not looked back. I have had small fragile pieces break but almost always just glue them back on. If the original piece it is hard to tell the difference. Good luck By the way with that patch trick, the easy thing to do is use a sharp exacto knife and score the piece instead of using a pencil and cutting. The thin blade is as sharp of a point you can get. You would not even have to use the saw to cut it. A few passes over it and pop it off the plywood.
  11. I never did have a problem cutting straight lines or circles. The eyes are starting to fail so have to concentrate more. That is why I like my RBI saw. It does not cut aggressively and will cut true. It is a matter of practice and remember the key rules, let the saw do the cutting. All you are doing is steering. Try to look a little bit ahead so that tells the brain what you will be doing. I am working on a few patterns now that have complete circles and they came out quite well. I would say another 3 weeks and I will have everything done and will post photos before my shows. Made some cool stuff and hopefully will sell. I do not believe a circle cutting jig would ever work on a scrollsaw.
  12. Will happen with painters tape too. I think I mentioned this one other thread some time ago. Also sometimes I find myself stacking weights on a piece to keep from warping before cutting and this adds to the problem.
  13. I have been cutting black lines forever. Bobscroller makes his patterns in red so I cut his red lines. Did not have any effect either way. What I do find myself doing is sometimes depending on the pattern cutting either on the line or just inside. Give you an example. The welder pattern which I am cutting now that Bobscroller did for me has such thin areas between cuts so I chose to cut inside the lines to widen those areas just abit. I do this at times with lettering too. These are tricks of the hobby as you keep doing this stuff.
  14. Whatever gets the job done and work arounds are sometimes just as rewarding as finishing the piece. I love making lots of different jigs in my shop as the need arises for some project. It is rewarding. Now I do have alot of jigs laying around that I can not remember what they were for. if I run into the same situation I usually just make another jig.
  15. http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/ Some links you can just copy and paste and some you have to go through the link icon. Not sure why. I just copied and pasted your link and it came up fine.
  16. Copy the link and when you make a reply there is a little symbol that looks like a chain link in that row of symbols. Click on that and paste your link in the box and hit apply to thread. Simple.
  17. Maybe they replaced the motor. It is made by Duro company and maybe sold by Montgomery ward
  18. That is a musical clock. The third weight is to control the music box. Would like to know is it a mechanical movement or a quartz movement?? Very nicely done. Those can be very finicky to keep working properly.
  19. You will not get more power out of it as you call it. The HP of a motor is what it is. If the VS works just run it full open and that is it. There is a reason all these bench top tools were invented, and that is to save space. But with that you sacrifice the ability to do larger woodworking jobs. That jointer is designed for light work. It will bog down when hard woods and exotic woods are run through it. You can lighten up the cut to overcome this somewhat but still pushing the limits of the tool. They are also unstable so be carefull with those things.
  20. If you are asking me I never tried to change to red. I like the black and white paper. If the pattern is red it can be turned to black with a touch of a buton so I assume it can be reversed. I will have to check next time I am in there. Probably next week some time. I have a couple more patterns to make up and then it is show time come Dec 1
  21. Will tell you this that VS foot control will burn that motor up so I would run far away from that one. That is why you never use a sewing machine foot control on a VS saw of any kind. This goes for routers and all. If he used in conjunction with the saw he better had the saw full open. No I would not touch that one. Just my opinion.
  22. don't tempt me Kevin.
  23. I do all my copying and pattern enlarging and shrinking at FedX. I use their copiers and it is very easy. I used their blueprint machine too and not much to it. I do not have the time on my computer to learn all that stuff. Then write it off on taxes at end of year.
  24. How big is the pockets??? I love the Laguna line.
  25. I resaw alot and would be lost with out a large bandsaw. I have a 14" Delta with 6" riser and it is a work horse for me. If you have the room buy big. You can do everything on a large saw but not everything on a smaller one. But if you do go 10" then Rikon or Craftsman which is the same saw are the choice. My opinion.
