Try putting on thinner coats. I had an issue with poly before and found I was putting on too much.

I agree with Rusty. Books are bought, read, then given away all the time. If he gives you the original patterns then they are yours. Throw the copies away.

Larry, you forgot punky wood. Those are the woods that hang out at arcades and cause trouble. Maybe that's just punk wood. But punky is an undesirable characteristic of wood.

Larry, you just described my process. I stack 3 and cut, take them to the belt sander to shape, then dip in BLO.

Larry, I give these away at shows. I've made about 50 and when the kids are eyeing them, with parent approval, I give them to the kids. I wonder how many of them came back for seconds...or thirds. Oh well, I just like seeing their face light up. I have thought about making necklaces. If I do, I'll make some smaller ones and make earrings for sale, too. So much to do and so little time.

Well, I drove by Rockler the other day and stopped in and picked up the sanding twigs. I expected something a little different. These are about 1/8" thick so I will still have to cut and use sandpaper for the smaller kerfs. Oh, well, live and learn.

http://www.rockler.com/sanding-twigs-20-pack I saw these and thought I'd share it with you guys. Many of you have probably seem or even used these. The price is reasonable. I usually just cut pieces of sandpaper but may give these a try.

Thanks Russell and Dick. I've got 4 of them now. They take no time at all to cut, it's all the gluing and sanding that take time. I did make a jig for drilling the hole for the hinge, but the rest of it is just cutting the wood to dimension.

Dick, I had a go at this. Learned a little along the way. It came out pretty nice and if I make a jig, I can probably make a dozen at a time. This prototype is walnut. The last picture is the one where the cards are displayed, I made it wide enough to handle 15 cards and the finished box is only 1/2" thick. Thanks for looking.

Whatever blade you choose, practice first. If the blade speed is too fast the Plexiglass may melt together during the cut. I found that covering the top and bottom with packing tape helps cool the blade tremendously. You can leave the paper on the Plexiglass and after cutting remove the pattern, tape and paper very easily.

That came out fantastic! Pine can be somewhat boring sometimes, but if you find the right project you can turn it into a great work. You found the right project for it.

There's no mistaking Jake and Elwood. The ironic part is I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard Rubber Biscuit sung by them. Great, over-the-top movie too.

I love these patterns of old TV shows. Nicely done Jeffert. Now you need to do one of their truck.
