  1. Back in the mid 60's, I went to an auction with my Grandfather. He bought what I thought was a box of junk but he said just wait. When we got home he put together an old cast iron scrolling jigsaw (Delta) floor model. After he got it running with new oil in the transmission, it was fascinating to see what could be done. A few years later, I found one at a garage sale. The guy had bought out a woodshop and didn't want the old Delta. I lugged it home and began experimenting. Never saw a scrolling book and of course no internet. Started cutting out shapes and creating Christmas ornaments that I gave instead of sending cards. Was quite a hit as they were usually painted with the date and it turned out a lot of people liked a dated ornament every year. I used that saw for 20 yrs until I broke down and bought a Delta Q3 in 94 by which time, I was in the business of doing custom cutting for tole painters and the old Delta was hard on blades. Found the on line site back in the 90's that has been taken over by the magazine. At that time, it was hosted by Arpop who still posts patterns on his own site. I am now retired and don't work to order anymore, at least not when I can avoid it but do things that I want to when I can.
  2. You have mastered this craft very quickly and show a lot of talent.
  3. Very nice work and a nice variety.
  4. That is beautiful work. Might I ask, is that your pattern? Don't know that I could ever do it but as a member of my local legion, that would be something that would be great for me to do for them.
  5. A big welcome from the Ozarks. I agree that FD's are my favorite blade and spirals are a negative. I have a few and only pull them out if I have a large project.
  6. The lady that ordered these came by yesterday afternoon and was thrilled. The one is unique as it says USMC but through the middle is Corpsman so I backed it with blue and added the medical symbol.
  7. First of all, I must apologize for the poor pictures. I am not too steady this am. The lady who ordered these is coming by today to pick them up. There are 6 marine, 2 navy and 1 corpsman that combined marine and navy. I must thank Chachi for the pattern assistance. This site is such a help for those of us who can't create these patterns.
  8. Beautiful job and a great reminder that we are more than the news would have us believe.
  9. Welcome to the best site on the web. I currently live in MO but used to work in Pasadena at Deepwater Junior High back in the 70's.
  10. Nicely done and as long as the customer is happy, that is all that matters. Good luck on the knee job.
  11. Very well done and you are justified in being proud. I'm especially partial to the horse, maybe because that fits my interest. I know sometimes that people think they have to have the finest equipment to create great work but that isn't true. Some of the members create some beautiful work with a hand fret saw. Better equipment can make it easier. I'm with you on spirals. They do have a place but it's in the back of my blade drawer and they only come out when the piece is too large for a straight blade.
  12. Very enjoyable. Some things done differently but I was really impressed with the blade tightening system.
  13. A neat idea. We have a stable like that here that I have wanted to volunteer with but can't handle all the walking so that might be something I could do.
  14. Welcome aboard Tim. You're right, this is a great group of people.
  15. I have used spray paint for the backers and found that they like the colors. Never had a problem with it wrinkling (maybe too thick too fast). Let it dry then use E6000 glue to attach the cutting. Either clamp or weigh it down for the glue to dry.
  16. Outstanding work on a great pattern. I got the opportunity to meet and sit in on a presentation by Jeff several years ago in Branson at the scroll saw picnic there. He is an interesting person and fantastic pattern maker.
  17. Very nice job but I am definitely not going to show this to anyone as I am up to my eyeballs in veteran's projects.
  18. A really great job.
  19. You and Sheila should get together. I don't envy you the job. I did make a mistake one time when I just moved across town as I didn't think it was necessary to pack things so managed to get breakage.
  20. Well done but definitely too much sanding for me.
  21. Very nice. Am really learning to like colored backers.

Nice job and yes I think it needs a backer. I really like that wood.
  23. If you give her that saw, it would mean that you have to buy a new one.
  24. Call me a cheapskate but an old business card taped over the hole with the blade poked through will also work.
  25. Great project and I'll bet the kids loved them.
