  1. Was just going to ask if anyone has heard from you.. haven't seen you posting in a really long time... Now I know what you've been up to... sorting pure junk plywood looking for that one good piece all this time... Good to see you posting again.. I ordered some from Cherokee this morning, part of the reason was we have gone on lockdown again and I didn't know if I'd make it until the lockdown is lifted..
  2. Ouch, So the sites listed I looked at here so far Cherokee is the best deal.. $44 for 24 square foot.. free shipping.. Ooch was sold out of all 1/8" and the woodworkerssource was $41 for 24 square foot but shipping was another $20.. I realize the shipping is costing money.. and I suppose I'd have a days worth of travel and cutting the sheets up into the blanks.. But I get 25 square foot for $12 at my local lumber supplier.. so even the $44 is sticker shock to me.. I think I'm going to give them a try though as at the moment I'm way too busy to try to save a few $$ LOL. In the end it's really not a bad deal considering I have to take time to cut up the blanks.. etc.. wear on saw blades and machines too.. It's probably costing them around $15 to ship.. that's what kills the total price point.. Oh well it's only money. Hope they have a lot of stock.. might be out by the time I'm done, LOL
  3. Interesting topic, as I myself have been considering ordering some online.. though I will most likely go support the local guys I always go to.. this time round I need some but really don't have time for the drive there.. a trip usually cost me a half day and I normally stock up well in Sept.. before I get busy.. Due to the virus and my idiot brain.. The virus kept me from going somewhat... and my idiot brain thought the 8 sheets I had on hand would be enough to get me through the holidays with my ornaments.. I'm now down to 1/2 a sheet.. Not going to make it another couple weeks.. and running out of ornaments.. so I'll use up what I have in the next week or so.. So far I've found that with shipping etc.. I'm paying double or triple what I normally pay.... Making time for the trip might have to be in order.. But I'm going to check these above mentioned places.. One thing is.. these are already broke down in sizes from the full sheet that I typically have to spend the other half of my day doing, LOL I usually buy 20 5 x 5 sheets at a time..
  4. I like doing portrait fretwork.. just wish it'd sell as good as clocks and puzzles, LOL I cut this portrait from solid 1/8 oak lumber.. You know how oak likes to break along the grain.. no issues at all with the shelf liner pulling off.. Usually comes right off real easy... but.. be careful of leaving it on for a period of time.. it seems to get more sticky as time goes on.. Usually no problems if it's only a couple weeks.. I had a stack of ornaments ready to cut and kept getting orders and then sidetracked etc.. was about 3 months.. it came off but was stuck fairly well.. I have had them where I needed to heat it because it was really stuck..
  5. I was looking at the stuff one day at the dollar store and some "cat lady " was bragging about how good the stuff works.. she said she gets clear and covers her coffee table with it when the grandkids come over and they color with markers.. protects her table from a accident... then she went on talking about putting it on the wall and floor around the cats litter box in case the cats spray etc.. and instead of getting it on the wall or floor she just puts that liner down and then changes it every couple weeks.. Good ideas I suppose.. I never knew that it could be used on a shelf though as nobody ever mentioned that... I'm thinking it should be rebranded to scroll saw project liner.. I use it on my CNC router projects and when the router finishes the carving I use spray paint to paint the routed out parts then peel the liner off.. works quite well for that too..
  6. Shelf liner vrs. painters tape.. the shelf liner is nice because it peels back off in ( most times ) one piece.. unlike tape that is only 2" wide you peel up a lot of pieces...
  7. If you have a shop vac.. they make a hepa filter for your standard shop vac.. I don't use the hepa filter but do use the one for fine dust.. I also use bags as this way the dust goes into the bag and helps keep the filter clean. NOTE: they have different grades of bags.. get the ones for fine dust.. I have to say other than the noise.. my shop vac with the fine dust filter.. bags.. and I also have a muffler which is like a filter too for the exhaust.. I get literally no dust coming out of the vac.. I used this set up on my dust port of my Excalibur saw for a long time.. Oh.. I also have a dust right dust separator..
  8. Gotta have a different saw for each style and size blade.. More seriously I have a lot of blade holders for the Hawk saw and I have stamped them with numbers.. For the most part I use #3 and #5.. Obviously the Pegas are easy to tell apart from a FD UR.. I don't use enough of the other styles and sizes to worry about trying to save it for a later use.. I just pitch them when I'm don't using them.. I only use one size and style of spiral balde and that is easy to tell from the FD UR and the Pegas too..
  9. Same here.. and now days... everyone wants a piece of the internet sales pie.. everybody and their brother and sister is trying to make a business online... A LOT more competition now than there was 25 years ago when I started a website selling tractor parts.. Now you can go to eBay and other places and get those same parts for less than I paid for them.. Took me a while to figure out how they was doing it.. but I caught on and could start it back up.. But at the moment I am enjoying what I do.. when I get tired of making my crafts and want something different... I'll move on.. at least I'm not stuck on the same assembly line day in day out 8 days a week at some factory.. or working in the autobody collision repair working with all the dangerous paint chemicals etc.. $30 + or - a month may seem like a lot of money but when you have tech issues with your website and you cant get sales because the site is down.. you could loose a lot of money.. and time spent getting the site up is time away from making product.. when the venues go down they have a tech team and typically restoring it in a short amount of time.. Another reason I sell on several sites.. if a site goes down.. I'm still getting sales on one or more of the other sites..
  10. I searched a lot of topics about this when I first started 20 years ago too.. You'll find that not many bring up this topic very often.. and what ones do bring it up are the ones trying to research.. it seems most are just worried about the "visible" dust... That said.. I never saw without a mask on... actually never even enter the shop without the mask.. even if I'm not going to work.. that fine dust gets stirred up just opening the door.. any movement.. But.. I do 4 times a year vacuum the whole shop with all the doors and windows open.. I have a old furnace blower I set up in the window to exhaust out any dust that gets stirred up from vacuuming.. and I vac everything. move the desk out vac the wall even the ceiling.. a couple days job about 4 times a year.. I really only have to do this now 2 times a year.. maybe not even that much.. since I've started running the box fan, the Grizzly version of the WEN 3410.. etc.. and collecting dust right at the saw.. The biggest dust culprit for me now is my random orbit sander.. This is going to get some dust collection of some sort once the busy holidays are over.. Like I've said in the past other postings.. a good vacuum instead of a shop vac.. collecting at the source, ( sander and saws etc. ) a good hanging collection system, a box fan with filter.. Will a person be able to collect 100% ? Probably not.. but as I've also said. any effort is better than no effort at all.. How dangerous is the find dust (I think ) is going to vary from one person to the next.. and also what you're cutting... Cigarettes state right on the package and people still smoke.. I know people that have sawed for many years in a small enclosed room and no mask at all.. I'm not saying to not worry about the dust.. but any effort you give it is better than no effort at all... and no matter what system you have.. you'll probably never catch 100%..
  11. Websites are very hard to get sales from without a ton of time promoting or a large amount of money for paid ads etc... The way I started was on sites like etsy, eBay, Amazon etc etc... and from there any orders get a business card with coupon codes etc. to my website... after nearly 6 years of doing this... my site is really gaining traffic and getting a decent amount of sales.. I believe Wix has free site builder up to so many GB of page transfers or something.. Not sure how it works these days.. It's been years since I've messed with free... free means a ton of work and dedication to gain absolutely 0 sales.. might be worth it in the long run of about 10+ years of a lot of work.. I've been there done that on many of the "Free" sites... and they ALWAYS change and either charge you a fee of take the site down or change ownership and then cater to the ones that Pay for the site.. In my opinion... nothing is free... you either pay and get results now.. or pay with a lot of hours of your time etc... For me... I'd rather be in my shop making more things than playing around with free sites hoping to hit it big.. A free website is like building a brick and mortar store out in the middle of a forest and then put up no signs to even show what the building is... and no advertising.. Think about the big companies starting up a new business.. They typically send out flyers and big banners saying grand opening sale this and that.. Most of the paid site spend a very small portion to push your site to google searches.. and it's still tough to get you enough traffic..
  12. Thanks for that info.. I have that glue.. used to use it on all of my projects.. can't remember now if it dries clear or not now but seems like it did...
  13. Okay, I was talking about the scroll saw dust collector.. that works well for bottom side but nothing for the top.. and not sure it has the power to add on a top side collection hose.. this is the vac I am using https://www.seyco.com/dv-10a-cyclonic-action-scroll-saw-dust-collector/
  14. I often wonder how chemical resistant the different glues are.. I glue to unfinished wood.. wait 12 -24 hours for glue to dry.. then I soak in Danish oil for about 10 minutes.. pull out and set another 10 min. then wipe off and let dry.. I've not had any issues with the chemicals loosening the glue bond... but it's something I constantly worry about.. I use the Tite-bond translucent glue.. always have and always will mainly because I haven't encountered any issues with it... afraid to try anything else.. because of this method and worries of a disaster, LOL Any thoughts on the chemicals and the glue?
  15. Very nice set up.. I keep watching these dust collection topics.. someday when I'm less busy and can get out and shop around to pick up some of the hose fittings etc.. I'm building and experimenting with different systems.. I'm not 100% satisfied with the seyco dust collector setup that I currently have.. works great for the stuff below the table... but the dust from the top gets knocked off the top and still ands in my lap and around.. I'll first try hooking a T or Y into my current system and see if it has enough to pull from both to get more of the dust from the top side.. It may work but I sorta have doubts.. Thanks for sharing your setup
  16. I don't really know them either since I have no first hand experience with either.. What little I researched a couple years back was.. Not all Fien brands have a Hepa filter... and they are single speed.. Festool I believe all have Hepa filter and come with two speeds.. Fien is cheaper... BUT they get pretty comparable when you buy the special HEPA filter you're looking at close to the same price points.. I'd maybe recommend looking to see which one has a dealer close to where you live for parts and service if / when ever needed.. I was leaning toward the Festool MIDI model.. mainly because it's priced right there with Fein once the extra cost of the HEPA filter was brought into the equation.. I have a local dealer for Festool.. actually where I buy my lumber and many of my supplies to I'm there all the time.. enough that they know me by name when I walk in, LOL I would think the box fan test "outside" would be irrelevant test because outside you have a breeze.. may not be much but I'm sure it'd influence the fine sawdust to blow in directions that normally wouldn't happen in a enclosed room.. With a good allergy type filter behind the fan.. it does slow down the air flow.. BUT.. you'll get that with your ceiling unit too.. I thought when I first got my ceiling unit that it wasn't going to do any good because it has less air flow than my box fan does.. It sure catches a lot of dust though.. Oh and filter surface area is smaller than the box fan too I would think.. maybe not as the physical size is smaller but maybe with all the waves ( for lack of a better word ) there is as much surface area being filtered.. Placement of the box fan is important too.. if you are able to set it on a bench so the height is about the level of the scroll saws work table you get better results than just setting the fan next to the saw on the floor.. The dust blower of the saw blowing toward the box fan a table height and as close to the saw as you can get without it being in your way is quite effective.. Honestly not sure you'll ever get to a point where you're getting 100% of the dust.. catching some is better than none.. some sort of dust collection is better than no collection at all.. When I was sawing in the house with my DeWalt saw.. I cut in a spare room right next to a big chest freezer.. The saw blower tube blew toward the freezer.. so I place the box fan on top of the freezer.. I didn't get any more dust than the normal dust my house gets before having the saw inside.. I didn't have a vacuum hooked up to it at all.. But I did rig up a box under the lower blade that caught the dust before it floated to the floor.. I would think between a vacuum system on your saw.. a box fan with filter.. and the hanging filter.. you should have a pretty good system provided you have it all set up and positioned well...
  17. Ahh okay, I kinda wondered that.. Thank you for the photos that helps a lot.. Sure would be nice to have two paper trays.. not sure if the make them like that or not..
  18. Looking at the laser printers tonight on best buy website.. All of them look like they have two drawers for paper? I sure could use one for label paper and one for standard paper... I cannot see anywhere in the specs about two paper trays but they "look like" they do? That be a plus if so and worth more money in my book.. I'm always opening my single paper tray to add my label papers every time I need to print a pattern.. Be nice to just hit print and select what paper drawer to use.. Is there such a thing?
  19. IF I was looking to use it on just a scroll saw.. and fine dust from a sander.. I think the HF unit is too big and bulky plus I'd shoot for something 3 micron... that's just my opinion... in a wood shop where a mask filter is worn and no one else " living in there with you " the HF collector makes sense.. Inside a house you'll want a strict filtration system.. I would look into a Fein or Festool type vac that has a true Hepa filter system if I was to go back to sawing in the house.. Believe the Festool is quieter on the low setting than the Fein is.. My goal is a Festool set up.. But I'm out in the shop.. wanting to move operations upstairs in the loft area where my inventory is stored and where I have finished insulating so heating and cooling would be more practical.. I would move my one of my saws up there, CNC... laser is already set up up there.. sanding and larger equipment would stay downstairs.. I bought the Seyco vac system but it's not getting enough of the dust for me to feel safe moving the saw upstairs yet.. I need a better system.. Ray mentioned above about the cheaper filtration systems being slightly less CFM than the pricey ones.. I think you could buy 4 of them for the price of that one.. that way there would be more filter surface area too, LOL I'll say.. a box fan and a good filter will be more CFM and probably more practical.. You'll be amazed what the box fan and filter will do.. There was a discussion about this some time ago and there was a Youtube video of a study of Box fan vrs. these hanging filtration systems... If I recall the box fan out performed the hanging unit.. One could hang a box fan to suck upwards and tape the filer on the back? A lot cheaper than a $100 unit.. You might search youtube for some information..
  20. I did it for a 6 month contract.. I made sales.. but not enough to cover my fees.. not to mention I was to go once a week to do my own dusting and arranging my display etc... so I lost money on travel fuel and time.. the place was almost an hour drive away too.. so my experience was not good.. Oh forgot to mention.. some items walked off.. Good things to ask is.. do they cover anything for theft or damaged goods... insurance if the place burns down or? who covers the taxes.. Probably more things to ask but that gives you an idea..
  21. Like that filter since it's washable... I may buy one when it's time for a new one.. I do use the higher filtration one made for fine dust that shop vac sells.. I don't remember the microns now.. It's the blue colored one.. I do tap the dust out of it when I can. and sometimes take it outside with the air hose and blow it out too.. I get a lot of dust that gets past my dust separator.. so I'm going to look for a different separator system.
  22. I have the HF dust collector you speak of.. Great for big machines like the planer etc.. But there is no filter.. just the dust bag on top of it.. I cannot remember the micron filtration of the bag but it's not a good one for the fine dust... You can buy other bags for a better filtration but I don't know anything about them.. or if they fit the HF model of collector.. I have the hanging filtration system that is a clone to the WEN.. It really helps a lot... I think it'd work a lot better if I had a smaller shop.. but i have to clean out the filter at least once a week so it's doing something, LOL
  23. Very nice display and great craftsmanship on all of them.. Thank you to all who have served or are serving
  24. I used to buy a lot of obsolete Delta parts from ( I think the name is ) mikestools.com I restored a few old Delta scroll saws that was my fathers that I gave me before he past on.. This place was the only place I could find some of the parts.. They have a parts look-up by model number etc. too.. This was several years ago though.. like 2005 -6 ish.. Not sure if they still have this stuff.. This was before I ever heard of ereplacementparts
  25. I have done "some" but really need to do a deep cleaning and really go through everything.. I'm not sure what you mean by bar coding.. What I do is photograph my tools and their serial numbers.. The purchase values are for the most part are receipts from my purchase of said tools.. I can upload the photos in my book keeping of the receipts and serial numbers.. so.. I think I'd be covered some by just that info being easily accessed. which for most of my woodworking stuff is recorded in my book keeping for my business which is all online.. and easily searched. For instance I can search Bushton MFG and it brings up all my purchases.. or Artcrafters.. brings up all the blades I've bought.. Can search specific categories like office equipment and search when I bought my printer.. serial numbers for that etc.. Without the business book keeping I'm not sure how I'd go about it.. maybe a app or something? I know people do photos and put on a thumb drive or cd disc etc.. I'd consider going one step further and making a icloud or google drive account where this can be stored so if the house burn down you don't loose the thumb drive or cd.. Be an interesting topic to see what others do or think should be done.. I'm far from experienced in this sort of thing, LOL
