  1. What group sponsored the show?
  2. It seems to me, I don't have the data, but that more and more people survive their battle with cancer. So chin up and do what the Doc says. And if what they tell you doesn't seem right get a second opinion. I'm sure everyone at SSV is rooting for you.
  3. My shop is in the lower level of a split entry. It's an enclosed space, supposed to be a bedroom. Air returns closed off. Use a dust collector hooked to table saw etc. Also run one or two box fans with 3M Filtrete filters. I try to vacuum the floor & cloths daily so I'm not tracking stuff to the family room. Given our temps here in the winter working outside would be foolish to impossible.
  4. Only the honest folks.
  5. Excellent
  6. I seal projects, if I'm concerned about and even stain, with shellac. I mix 1 oz of flakes with 8 oz of denatured alcohol. New batches about every 9 months to make sure it's fresh. This will dry in 15-30 minutes and needs a very light sanding, followed by getting the dust off with a tack cloth. (Don't shellac any project that's likely to come in contact with alcohol in it's normal use.) The wooden gear clock I made I applied two coats of shellac as a finish, including the edges - nothing else on the BB stock. I used BLO on the cherry. I'll join others I requesting pics of the project as you go and the final project.
  7. I built a flip top work station about 10 years ago. One side is a lunch box planer and the other is a chop saw. It's on casters so I can move it about. Some folks use their chop saw a lot more than I do and this configuration wouldn't work for them. At the time I found plans from Wood Magazine and Woodsmith, I combined those ideas/plans. It worked great at the time and still works perfectly. Made mostly from 3/4" birch pw and a wee bit of hardware.
  8. Very clever!
  9. I checked the 5 places I get router bits and none had any round over bits with a shank less than 1/4". And as already noted the Dremel, certainly a tool I've had in my shop since the late 1960's, but the motors just don't have the torque for routing.
  10. Joining media is always interesting. The subject matter leaves me cold, but I'll give you high marks for creativity and execution.
  11. Nice beading detail on the frame and the corners are super. Super job!
  12. No I meant using a template to cut at the bandsaw. Here's a Youtube video that explains the process: While I use a router and template finish an edge quite often, I don't know if you can get a flush cutting bit that will handle 2" stock? Furthermore, I'd be cautious about template routing a small items, like a toy car.
  13. I wanted to reply to your post, but not about oscillating spindle sanders. I just wondered if you could reduce the sanding needed at the bandsaw by using template cutting. If you make a lot of these cars - a template process should speed things up both at the bandsaw and in the sanding department. Just a thought.....
  14. Your father is an exceptional artist and we wish him well.
  15. I do most of my miter work on a table saw (Shopsmith). I make quite a few picture frames. I have a Milwaukee chop saw but have never taken time to make zc inserts or to really 'tune it' up. I don't think there is any question that the better the blade, (regardless of the brand or type of saw) the better the results. It's the blade that does the work. I like Forrest and Freud. For a chopsaw I'd look at the Forrest Chopmaster and the Freud Model: LU79R012. Just my 2¢.

  17. Here is a link to the wooden gear clock I made a few years ago. http://www.scrollsaw...en +gear +clock I must have posted 2 or 3 times because I thought it would be fun to kind of document the process. I'm sure I got the needed supplies locally at Ace or a craft store. Once set up mine ran perfectly for a couple months. Then I went on a extended vacation (4 weeks) when I returned I couldn't get it to run again?!?!? I've never taken the time to go back and really try and sort out what happened. But it's on my bucket list...... Good luck and keep us posted!
  18. Cherry finishes beautifully with BLO and that pattern doesn't need a topcoat unless you prefer glossy look. Here's one I did last year with the BLO finish. And cherry works well with all power tools.
  19. My wife who works at a number of high end shows around the country with her weaving says, "jewelry always sells". And your price is fair so I think you must have a winner!
  20. Well done!
  21. The muscles in my hands cramp up plenty in the shop or working around the house.
  22. I still have some hair so I'm going to use the clipper for the project it was designed to do. My wife has cut my hair for 48 years - saved quite a bit of money. The last time I paid for a haircut was before our wedding. She asked how much I'd paid and from then on she been my in-house barber. .
  23. Great idea, maybe I can even try to get some maintenance done.
  24. Sharp cutting. I love the low luster finish. What is the overall size?
  25. That's my mantra Mmmmmmmmmm.... Life is too short for cheap tools!
