  1. Super job. Those box joints looks to be on the money!! I agree with Bill's comments regarding shellac. I don't do nearly as much scrolling as many of the members but I do lot's of woodworking and more and more I try to put finish on before assembly. It started a few years ago when made all our kitchen cabinets. I applied finish to the case pw white it was still in 4 x 8 sheet. There's often a lot of taping needed to prevent finish from getting on glue surfaces but I think it a great trade-off.
  2. I use a 12" box fan with a trimmed down 3M filter taped to it. I get it as close to the table as I can running it when cutting. I also run a dust collector. If you look in the bottom right corner of the pic you can see the hose resting on the bench. Additionally I have 2 - 24" fans. One runs all the time I'm in the shop. The other I move into place to capture the most dust for a given operation other than scrolling e.g., routing.
  3. Best wishes to someone getting better every day.
  4. It looks super and I can say from experience that the difference between running a few seconds and several hours can be a really small tweak. Keep at it.
  5. I know a lot of owners find fault with the EX dc system and I'm a proponent that if something doesn't work for you - change it. Good job. Me I like the dc system just fine.
  6. I'd make a template from thin scrap pw or hardboard to layout the cuts and then cut with roller scissors like these https://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Contour-Rotary-Cutter-195210-1001/dp/B000B7M8WU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494506019&sr=8-1&keywords=roller+scissors Make sure you are on a good surface for cutting.
  7. Awesome build. I'm sure you'll keep tinkering with it - ahh the joys of building your own tools. There's not much you can't do with a Shopsmith if you're a little creative.
  8. I don't get this either. Churches, temples, synagogues all have members who contribute to the organization. If they want the place painted or whatever, and no member volunteers to provide the service, either they should pay or it doesn't happen. And this person is a friend? And they want 40 or 50 more? Are you sure they're not selling them on Ebay? Sorry Kevin, but I'm a cynic.
  9. I don't understand, why didn't the band saw work? This looks like an ideal project to stack cut on a band saw. You can probably even make a template to follow.
  10. We are all different. The only woodworking I take are special orders. After design approval (I'm out on a limb with those) I get 1/2 up front and the balance on delivery. I've never been hurt with this, other than my poor estimating skills.
  11. What material are you using for the sacrificial insert?
  12. Most of my posts are under Other Woodworks. But I do some scroll work so here's an example. This little project was meant to use cut-offs from a storage unit project that needed a home. I've always been a fan of the Wright's work and in browsing the internet I came across a image that looked like this. I copied it and used it for a pattern. Personal use only. As you can see I glued 6 pieces of stock (.625" cherry) together so I had enough width to make a trivet (6.125" square). It has a couple of spots where either the grain is working against me or the glue is giving up? Scrolling straight lines and all right angle corners was difficult for a amateur scoller like me. Problems aside I'm still pleased with the look. This is my first post since the big change-over. I hope the pics show up? No preview, I'll miss that. C & C welcome.
  13. I'm sure when I joined I read the guidelines for posts. I suggest you read and follow them.
  14. First rate work.
  15. Really nice job, I wasn't able to view the video either?
  16. Very nice work!!! We did the Great Circle Tour a couple years ago. One of the best trips we've ever taken! We went clockwise from Duluth. Here's a snap shot I took on a hike at Old Women's Bay.
  17. Very cool!
  18. Thanks for the update and all the effort you put into SSV
  19. Nice job! Just out of curiosity, why didn't you stain it?
  20. Excellent work!!!
  21. Using the same brand of poly you can switch to a gloss finish. That should go over the satin without issues.
