  1. Paint is done. My wife and Daughter decided to surprise me when I got home from my last work trip and did it while I was gone. I can now finally start putting things in their permanent place. Need to do something for those two for sure. Now I get to start building wood racks, a downdraft table and a rack to hold all my rolls of carbon and fiberglass. I plan on closing off the area where the compressor is with some sound deadening panels I acquired and build a shelf across the top of all the steel shelves so I can place bigger things up there tat I don't use all that often.
  2. A mini fridge, yes. I seriously thought about a bathroom but I would have had to tap into the sewer line going to the house, then that would have opened up a $10k can of worms.
  3. Last of the spray foam insulation is done! I had him come back and do the last 18 inch strip at the top of the wall. I do plan on painting the walls just to brighten it up in there a bit. I found 5 gal of some "Maintenance Paint" at Lowes for $40.99. But otherwise now I'm going to start organizing where everything is going to go and start running my lines for the air compressor and the vacuum system. I have 6 shelf units that I will place by the back wall with a platform on top eventually.
  4. Thanks Denny, it would shorten it slightly but I personally think it's too long anyway. I think I'm going to try it tonight before I spend $$. What's the worst that can happen, I break it? haha.
  5. My Dewalt DW788 air nozzle is cracked right where it snaps onto the saw. So it isn't tight and just kinda flops about. I am here at work and was about to order a new nozzle but started thinking... Can I just remove the broken section on the end of the hose and snap the next section onto the saw? Is it the same size?
  6. This one went pretty well. It was supposed to be anonymous as to who you got it from but everybody there knows my work. Our receptionist got it and she was super happy. I've done t a few times and its usually pretty good. I got a cool snowman to put in the Christmas village setup at home and way too much chocolate. haha. One of the guys got a clear glass ball and filled it with his custom spice mix he uses for grilling. That was pretty cool.
  7. Had an ornament exchange at work today. Here is what I did.
  8. I wish... It would have been done a year and a half ago. haha. Little bit here, little bit there. I sold a couple model boats that paid for most of the insulation and sheeting. A couple work trips to Kuwait over this last summer paid for the spray foam. I don't have any credit cards so it takes time.
  9. Had the ceiling and gable ends done in spray foam. Ran wiring for the whole North wall including three 220v circuits for the compressor, table saw and 1 extra. This last week I framed in the walls. This weekend we put insulation in and covered it with 3/8 OSB sheeting. Now all I need is to have the spray foam guy come back and do the strip above the wall. It's going to be a pain to fill it in manually because of the curve in the steel frame joists.
  10. If anyone has not noticed... My logo has a dragon head that Bobscroll designed.
  11. They turned out pretty good. I'm happy. Ship off to the customer later this week.
  12. A friend asked me to make some candle boxes for her massage business. We wanted to do something that would throw some patterns on the walls but not be too bright. This will be for electric candles, not regular ones. I decided to make them more open in the middle to get a little more light out. We will see how they look when done. I may go back and redo the one with the larger opening in the center. Maybe just open up the center hole but we'll see. These are about 5 inches wide and 6 inches tall.
  13. The job has taken me to Kuwait 4 times in the last year. Each trip about 30 days. Then 4 other out of town trailing classes or inspections so I haven't been doing much work in the shop til recently. I did have a couple RC boat orders. They are almost done. They are carbon/Kevlar. Turning out pretty good.
  14. I've always used a respirator similar to the ones shown above. I have relatives with lung issues and do NOT want to deal with the issues they have. I've worn my respirator for hours and hours while scrolling, no problems, maybe a little hot in the summer but so what? I also use it when I'm cutting carbon fiber. You can't see it on your skin afterwards but you itch because of it. So I don't want that in my lungs either. I want to be doing this for a long time to come and be the "Old guy" that people go to for questions. haha!
  15. Got the back wall all insulated. Going to have a guy come in and do spray foam in the ceiling and the gable ends down to what I've done here. Started working on a few boats that I have to get done. I did use my scroll saw the other day though briefly. I do have a project coming up that I will post on here in the next week I hope.
  16. Started finishing off the back wall. Need to get that done so I can put shelves up. Of course nothing is on any kind of standard measurement so I have to put my own studs in. The back wall is going to be all shelving. So I'm not worried about having a lot of structure there, just enough to keep the insulation up. I placed 1/2 inch foam against the sheet metal foil side out, then regular batting stapled to the inside of the OSB sheets. Once i get this back wall done I can get the spray foam for the ceiling.
  17. Haha! Ok, we'll see. Next is the 220 for the compressor room. I got some sound deadening panels from work that I'll line that room with. Then start on the back wall. I have some storage shelves I want to put up back there.
  18. I use dollar store masking tape. It comes off easy like painters tape and costs way less. The tape will start to peel up after a week or so, so I make sure and set them up and do it as soon as possible. Then super 77 to hold the pattern down to the tape. I've used all kinds of different spray glue and nothing comes close to the super 77. It's worth the price. I tried doing the pattern directly to the wood but I never liked the mineral spirits option. Most of my parts are really fragile so I'm scared to break something getting the glue off. But that's just me. I'm sure it works great for other people.

  20. Update... Between 3 trips to Kuwait (all of October, Dec & April), regular work and just the northwest winters it's been busy around here. Electrical and garage door was done when I was on my last trip out of the country. Finally took a week off work to finish everything up. Final inspection was done last week. then I installed lights, outlets and got the plumbing for the heated floor connected. I can now lock it up so I started moving tools in and making benches. This has been quite a journey. Still a lot to do like insulation, building a room for my compressor and finishing out the walls and all the little things to make it mine but this will probably be the last update on this post.
  21. I use a cheap digital kitchen scale for measuring out different resins for my composite work. I use Epoxy, Polyester, Vinylester, basically anything I can get my hands on. Epoxies are generally not as "Smelly" as the polyesters so if you are sensitive to stuff like that it a much better option. I prefer the liquid dye as I have found it's easier to use but both the dye and powder work well. You don't usually need much to get the color you want. Make sure that whatever you use is at room temp, not cold because it won't flow well and the bubbles (if any) will not rise very fast. Longer curing epoxy would be better to get bubbles out for sure.
  22. Haha! I'll do my best to help you out! Actually I have a Teardrop camper trailer idea I'm going to try. I do a lot of composite work with carbon fiber on the side. We'll see if I can make something that is sellable. Make some extra $$ on the side.
  23. Mine too! I guess I'll have to buy more tools then! Haha! We got the rest of the roof on last weekend. This weekend I'll put the small door in, finish the front sheet metal and finish the trim. Big door is a week or 2 out but that's fine. Once the trim is done I can call the inspector and get that out of my hair.
  24. That may be a problem this winter but after that there should be a ton of insulation installed which will quiet it down a lot. If not, I'll just play the music louder! haha!
