  1. I'm planning on doing a big craft show this fall. Last time I did a show I was amazed by how much stuff you could sell if you had cheap things listed at $1-$2. So I decided to make some little toy cars with scrap wood I had in the shop in addition to all the nice bigger stuff I have. I bought the wheels and axles on line and just drew up some cars similar to what I saw on line. I got 68 cut out in a couple hours and almost used up all my scrap. They turned out pretty cute too. The tow trucks aren't done yet, still need to make the hook for the back.
  2. I have a shop Vac, I think it's a craftsman. lots of suctiion, no problem there. The only thing I hate, absolutley hate is the 4 wheels that go wherever they want to go, not where I want it to go. I want it to follow me and it scurries off in a corner and gets caught on a table leg or something else. SO annoying, I think I'm going to take 2 wheels off and put straight ones on it.
  3. Thanks everyone! I'm no expert with the spiral by any means, there was still a lot of "Ooo, eek, whoa, Ahh" going on even towards the end. I just had to go really slow and concentrate. I actually traded my brother in law a couple other patterns for this one, not sure where he got it. I've seen it in various places for purchase so I know it's out there.
  4. Just got done with this last night. Used a #2 Olson Spiral blade. First project I've done almost totally with a spiral. Still getting used to it. I had a request for one and thought I might as well stack a couple more and only do it once. Just sanding and stain left.
  5. Bob, People call them different things, this is what they are. But these were FAT and larger than a regular one. Took a full home run swing from the dustpan, hit the wall and still had enough muscle to still try to fly away! There must be a nest nearby, I'll take care of them tonight.
  6. Had the small door on the garage open last night, finally getting some good weather. Sitting at the saw and I see this thing all of a sudden buzzing my left cheek just on the edge of my vision. WAAAA!!! HOLY &*%$#!. Big fat yellow jacket! Killed that one and went back to the saw and a couple minutes later, same thing, buzzed my ear! Hit that one with the dust pan and had to go find it in the corner. The third time I decided to close the door and apparently I trapped a fourth one in the garage with me. Every one of them had to buzz my head. I'm not allergic but having one fly right in your face is not cool! Buzzed Ken
  7. Learn something new every day! Thanks Dan!
  8. Been wondering that myself. Got a bunch of cedar fencing from a neighbor down the street and want to do a few projects with it.
  9. I use the same type. I'm not as um.. "experienced" as some of the other members here and figure if I play my cards right and do simple things like wear a mask I can be doing this for another 40-50 years. It's almost like the seat belt in the car, if I don't have it on I feel weird. I wear glasses too and don't have any fogging issues like the cloth masks, smearing issues yes but no fogging.
  10. Oh yes, 1/16th and 1/32nd are popular with the model airplane crowd. Price goes up as it gets thinner though. Pretty much all I cut is plywood, never had any real issues. (yet)
  11. Looks just like my shop!
  12. I fell asleep at the wheel of one of my video games, wrecked that car bad! Can't imagine falling asleep in the shop, not with Led Zeppelin cranked!
  13. Thanks everyone! We bought my wife a new wedding band a few months ago, so with that money she can have it in time for x-mas. You know what they say about a happy wife. I'll get better copies and put them out here for grabs if anyone wants to do one. I already have an order for another one. I'll have to make assembly drawings and instructions.
  14. Thanks, The pictures are out of order. The one that is painted is the original. Other than the broken antlers i had to fix it still looks good.
  15. One of my coworkers asked me to repair the antlers on his Santa and sleigh. It was originally purchased by his parents in 1957. Then he asked if I could make some replicas since his sisters and brother wanted one. 2 with 6 reindeer like the original and 1 with 8 reindeer. They turned out pretty good. I only got pictures after they were finished. They are going to paint them so I didn't have to worry about that. I asked for $75 each and he gave me $100 each so I'm pretty happy.
  16. I just use the elcheapo masking tape from the dollar store to wrap the stack and cover the top piece. Then a little shot of spray glue to hold the pattern on. Like mentioned above it only sticks for 24-48 hours so I make sure to do it just before I start. And it peels off with no residue at all. Am I opinion #11 or #12?
  17. After showing them off a little bit, one of the clubs decided they wanted 11 of them! So then I decided I should put them in the For Sale section of "Jims RC Boat Dock". I've sold 4 already and I only posted it last night! I'm using aromatic cedar closet lining because it has the craziest grain pattern I can find. (and a whole box is $30) Selling for $20 each or $17 for 4 or more.
  18. Thanks everyone! Yes it is Aromatic cedar from an old cedar chest we found at the dump. Here is the final product. One is tilted (can't tell from the picture) and the other is vertical.
  19. Here is what the final piece might look like.
  20. Thanks to Birchbark for converting this picture for me. I plan on presenting these to our model boat club to see if they want to use them for our championship trophies at the end of the year. I think they turned out pretty well.
  21. Looks good! Glad I'm not the only one that makes the holes for the clock face too big. I've had to do the same thing a couple times before.
  22. I actually have to admit I can't take credit for all of those. I did the girl on the dock, my wife did the cross and the plaque. Then she did the painting of the sunset behind one of the girls. She's only been doing this for about a year and is getting pretty good. Thanks everyone. Yes, for 100 years old she is doing very well. Still living by herself and still sharp.
  23. Grandmas 100th birthday is coming up this Friday and I got a few things done. Those of us crafty members of the family usually make a few things that we raffle off and then pick a few of the nicer ones to Auction off. Usually make about $1000 and it all goes to Grandma. It's a BIG family, she had 11 kids, 35 of us grandkids and I just quit counting after that! I have 2 of the girls, and 2 each of the plaques and crosses.
  24. Wow, just when I thought I'd heard it all.... "Done to a turn" isn't nearly as good as what you guys came up with.
  25. I do all my x-mas ornaments this way. Then you can lower the price a little because you have 3 to sell. I tried doing 4 but I had to slow down a lot because of the thickness. I do almost everything stack cutting now. I even did Elvis triplets one time. Ken
