  1. We made one when I was a kid. It was a rifle shape and somehow the final version shot steel tipped throwing darts.........Not exactly sure how we got to that point but it was fun! Couple of NW Montana boys. Haha. Thanks Cody, those are cool.
  2. Haha!, I know, the boats are an addiction. I already did a pile of Halloween decorations I sold at work. It's not just me though, got the wife a saw and she's been busy too. She did about a third of what we got done.
  3. Already did a whole box of ornaments (over 100) and I'm already burned out on X-mas stuff. So I started a new boat project.
  4. It depends on the dog. 1/2 hour to 45 min is about all she can stand before flopping the Frisbee in my lap. We go play for 10 min or until she quits on me, then that gives me another 1/2 hour or so before she comes around again. Works out well. Haha.
  5. Good tip Kevin! I never thought of that. I learn new cool stuff here on SSV all the time.
  6. Found a good deal on this saw on Craigs list. It's hardly been used. Was $150 but the blower tube was broken off and the table had a lot of rust on it so I got them down to $120 with the stand. I sanded the table down and cleaned it up then replaced the blower tube with an aluminum tube I bent to the right shape. Works great. My wife wanted a scroll saw for her birthday so this is the one she picked out. Not a bad deal at all.
  7. Welcome Bud! This is a great site with lots of great people that will help you out with any questions you have. I have the same thing at work, everyone comes to me with "You're a wood guy......." HA! I've been scrolling for 15 years before I came here and learn something new here all the time. Ken
  8. Chucked a blade in the roto zip this evening. I know I got it good and tight. When I turned it on, it bent, flew out and hit me square in the face. Took about 2 milliseconds! Luck was with me though as I had just put my dust mask on. You can see where it hit "AOSAFETY". Every once in a while these tools make you remember who is really in charge. I put it all down and went in the house, done for the evening.
  9. tvman, it is actually my uncles tractor. I got a picture, posted it in the pattern section and Don made the pattern for me.
  10. I was thinking that I could use some of the old grey barn wood I have out back. Should look pretty good. Make it look old.
  11. Thanks to Don R for the tractor pattern, it came out pretty good. Size is about 11x15 inches. I stacked 2 and will give one to my uncle who re-painted my model boat for me (who actually owns this tractor) and the other I'll give to the family raffle at Grandmas 99th birthday on saturday.
  12. Is it stiff or just doesn't stay up? Mine doesn't stay up by itself so I attached a bungee cord up high on the wall to hold it when I release it.
  13. I use a half mask with the double filters. I do wear glasses and it pushes them up a bit but doesn't seem to cause a problem. It's probably overkill but I'd like to do this for a long time to come.....
  14. Ray, welcome to the Village! Finishing has always been a problem for me too. Even after years of this I still get one that turns out weird every once in a while. The biggest thing with fretwork or anything that has holes is to give it a light spray from one direction, let it dry then spray from another direction. If you miss a spot just remember it for next time cause if you try to go back and get it you'll get a run. Just takes patience (that's my biggest problem )and lots of coats. Sometimes one brand of stain doesn't like a different brand of clear. Make sure both are the same brand. Show us what you've been working on. Ken
  15. Never tried that before but you could try this. You will have to put a pin of some kind for a joint. should be able to do the same for the hip joint. You might need to do something with the arms too, they might touch the table when it's sitting down.
  16. I like it! Need one for work. (I do product support on the phone)
  17. I use the thin CA sometimes when building my models. Watch it though! Don't hold the parts together with your fingers or you'll end up with a chunk of skin permanently attached!
  18. See! I've been on here for a while, been scrolling since the early 90's and I just learned something new! Didn't know the clear packing tape trick!
  19. Our company awards banquet is coming up in a couple weeks. They asked a few of us hobbyists if we could do a few things for the door prize baskets. I picked these 2 out of all my plans. The picture frame was from an old Scroll Saw magasine and the other was from Wild wood designs I think. Other than the fact that I couldnt find a clock face the right size in the immediate area they both turned out well. I learned that you need to get the clock face FIRST and then cut the hole, not the other way around. Ken
  20. The craftsman saw I have will accept pinned OR pinless blades. Should work fine if you can get some.
  21. Mike, Message sent, thanks again. Jesse, I've gotten blades at Lowes before but not very often. Mostly because they never seem to have the right sizes. They are more expensive than the Olson blades too. I don't care for spiral blades myself but some people love them. I just can't get used to the randomness of the cut. I only use them if I have to but some people use only spirals. Ken
  22. Mike, maybe I'll have to give them a shot. I sent you my address. Much appreciated. It's just frustrating that you get one blade that lasts forever and the next one lasts 2 min in the same material, same pattern. Ken
  23. Been doing a lot of cutting latley getting ready for x-mas. I noticed that a few blades out of each package are dull right out of the package. Not every package but enough to notice. You can feel that the teeth are just not sharp. I had one package of #2-28 reverse tooth where about half the blades were junk. Anyone else have this happen?
  24. Thanks guys (and gals). I don't sell much of my stuff, so I was very suprised after all the orders started coming in. Just from family (big family) and co-workers I've made just over $500. Now I know which ones to do if I do a craft show.
  25. Great job. Heck of a lot better than my first butchered project. I've learned a bunch of tips on this site, and the people are great too. Keep it up, only gets better from here.
