  1. Nice! I need to try a box like that one of these days.
  2. A guy in Georgia requested a cut out of one of their club members model boats. The gentleman passed away over the winter and they wanted to make a memorial trophy using a picture of one of his boats. They sent me a few pictures I could pick from and this is what I ended up with. It will be mounted on a large piece of Mahogany with a glass plaque in front. I wanted to do it out of solid Maple but I put a 1/8 in birch ply on top and a scrap piece on the bottom just because I knew I was going super tiny in this one. If I broke the maple then I still would have the plywood. I was very lucky and didn't break anything and even the scrap piece on the bottom can be used. I think they will like it. Some of the things you can do with these saws are amazing. Ken
  3. Mine was really bad when I took it out of the box too. The top holder on mine was too far back. It was off by a LOT! it wasn't even close. It caused a lot of vibration on the piece you were cutting. After I fixed it it was like a different machine!
  4. Thanks everyone! Yes, the plank is Cedar. I believe they were mill ends. Some of them still have the bark on them. All but 2 of the horses are the same. I try to stain them all slightly different to make it look more like a real herd. Marg, this is #4. I have probably a dozen more planks but I plan on doing a couple with Moose/Bear/trees and maybe one with elk.
  5. A co-worker wanted one of my horse planks. They gave it to his wifes Mom for Easter. They picked it up on the way there today.

    earrings

Jim, No problem, happy to share. My daughter re-drew them from a picture she found on the internet. I'll attach it here though I have no idea where it originally came from. These were done from 1/8 birch plywood. I sanded the blanks first before cutting because I know they would be too small and fragile afterwards. I taped them together and stack cut 3 at a time with an Olson 28 tooth reverse blade. I made sure after the first one to put tape on the back also to reduce chip out when drilling and cuting. I had my Dewalt 788 set at 3 on the speed, which is my standard speed for most everything I do. I'm not sure how fast that is compared to other machines.
  7. Good Job! How large is it?

Thanks everyone! The earrings are all just over an inch across. The Fairy/Moon design was pretty tough but if I go really slow with a 28 tooth Olson blade it turned out good and I didn't loose any of them. These are out of 1/8 birch ply. The thing that I think will be nice is that they don't weigh anything at all, should be easy to wear. I did 3 sets of fairies and 6 sets of the celtic knots for my girls and a friend of mine who was the one who noticed the design.

Had a request for some earrings. The picture was pretty grainy so my daughter redrew them and I cut them out this weekend.
  10. Thanks everyone!
  11. Got a call just before Christmas from a guy that wanted "A poodle with Debbie's on it" Didn't care what kind of poodle, just a poodle. I could tell it was a last minute thing. Searched google for "Poodle drawing" and found this. I made it a 3D type image because I figured it would cut faster that way. Turned out pretty good for 2 hours work at the last minute. It's 8 1/2 x 11 inches and all 1/4 Birch ply. The bow is aromatic Cedar.
  12. There are a few things I want to do for myself this next year. I want to remodel the basement family room with some nice book cases and shelves and scroll saw stuff I like. I don't think I'll do any shows. Barely broke even with the ones I did. I seem to be traveling more for work this last year and I don't see that slowing down either. I'm getting our model boat club back together and I'll probably end up being the club president too. I guess I'm saying 2015 is a ME year. Me, me, me! Haha!
  13. Just finished this today for a lady at work. Her husband is a firefighter. I changed the numbers at the top and bottom for Spokane Valley Fire Dept and his badge # 360. It's about 8 x 8 inches wide. The base is an old oak cutting board and 1/4 in baltic birch on top. I sent a picture to her and she loves it. I'm actually impressed with it myself.
  14. I have noticed that the Olsen blades are inconsistent (at least for me) on how long they last. Sometimes they are ok, other times they last only a minute or two. I noticed once that the 28 tooth blades really didn't have teeth, it was more like bumps on the blade. The Pegus blades always work well for me.
  15. Good job! My first projects didn't look that good. Are you addicted like the rest of us yet? It doesn't take long. Keep up the good work.
  16. Kevin, I go to home Depot/ Lowes and get a box of the the cedar closet lining. Looks great and pretty cheap for the small projects. Just trim off the tonge & grove and you're in business! Good job, I like the Marine Corps one!
  17. I think it looks pretty good. I don't see much to complain about.
  18. Ok, here are the finished horses. Looks pretty cool! Better than I thought. The pictures don't do them justice.
  19. The crackle paint is Valspar. I got it at Hobby Lobby. Lots of different base and top coat colors but they only had gold base and whit topcoat at our store. The more topcoat you spray on, the bigger the cracks. It was really strange to do this on purpose after having it happen on accident a time or two in the past.
  20. No problem. My dad went to an estate sale last summer and picked up a pile of old cedar planks. They look like the tailings that the mill can't use. He had them for a while wondering what to do and thought if he sanded one down, stained and cleared it and then put a herd of running horses across it and then hang it on the wall that it might look pretty good. It did. I decided to do the same thing but made the horses a little more detailed. He still has about a dozen of these planks so I'll have to take the truck and pick up a few more if these sell well.
  21. I sure hope so! Thanks everyone! We'll see what happens, but I think it will go well.
  22. And the planks the horses will go on.
  23. And the horses.
  24. Been really busy the past couple months. Been making all kinds of stuff. I only do one show a year and this is a big one. Got 2 picture frames done with crackel paint. Got all my horses cut out and stained. Got the planks the horses will go on cleared, got 2 rose lamps done and cleared, just need to put the hardware on. That's just what I got done this weekend.
  25. Good job Kevin! looks good.
