  1. here is another box I just finished. red oak (I think) and with leopard wood on the corners, lid knob and inlay letters for the top. the bottom inside of the box is a piece of black walnut. seems like after I made one just for fun, everyone wants one now. Does anyone have a trick for not seeing the blade entry hole for the inlay? I've tried several things but nothing consistently gets rid of the hole.
  2. great job!
  3. Thats what i was thinking two pieces are notched to fit together so youll just have to adjust the notches not the whole pattern
  4. Thanks, when i looked up leopard wood online it didnt look like mine but your pic tells it all.
  5. Would you rescale the whole pattern? 1/4 is twice as large as 1/8 But if you rescale it that much the whole thing will be twice a big Couldnt you just go through each pattern piece that connects to each other and hand change from 1/8 to 1/4 Maybe im thinking of this wrong
  6. I found it! it's called Lacewood
  7. Hey there's an idea! I work one week on one week off 12 hours a day, so I have good amounts of shop time as well....
  8. Can anyone tell what species wood this is? I bought it a long time ago from woodcraft.com but cant find it on there anymore Its brown with light tan splotches
  9. I use two 20 inch fans, one with a 1 inch filter to collect the fine particles. Seems to work really well
  10. Can you post a picture if it? I cant visualize what you mean When mine went out i hooked my compressor up to the air tube and turned the regulator way down low. It constantly blew air, and much better than the bellows.
  11. I think i understand your pain but like you said at least you have a good job. In my small town they just layed off another 400 people.
  12. Welcome to the village and thanks for the tip about the dollar store. Its great to hear about the charity work youve done.
  13. Love the design of the swing doors Looks great
  14. I've never seen that site before, very detailed projects. I might be getting in over my head but I just ordered the Victorian locomotive pattern
  15. Excellent portraits! I keep hearing all this great stuff about the 788, I'll be looking for a new one soon gotta choose between the 788 or getting an excaliber Great job!
  16. Thanks for all the good but sometimes confusing info! I just started using these, they work pretty well
  17. i didn't catch that the first time I looked at it. I like that. Great job
  18. The box looks great! I just bought a craft pack of polymer baking clay from walmart for like 5 bucks. I've played with it only once, seems pretty easy to do. again great job on the box!
  19. Hosted on photobucket....
  20. I've been working on some boxes, never tried to make these before so even though I'm happy with them, i've got some changes for the next boxes First box i made with baltic birch plywood to keep it inexpensive, but I really like how the plywood layers made strips! Lined the drawers with felt. the second box is a request from my daughter, a small box with her name in the top. the name split the wood a little and didnt' fill all the gap (I should have recut the letters with more angle, instead I sanded them off which left gaps between the letters and the top) made with poplar and the letters are black walnut. Corners are hand cut dove tails. the last box is out of a scroll saw magazine, all baltic birch plywood, the dark portions are simply stained. The inlay came out really good on this one. but the bottom and corners need to be a little better. the corners on this box are simply cut to a 45 degree angle and glued together. Like I said all experimentation at this point, the next generation of boxes should be much better.
  21. Hello and welcome, I use birch plywood for all types of projects. Actually I can't think of one that wasn't done with birch plywood at least first. It's easy to work with, you can produce very nice projects with it.
  22. Looks great, I've got a similar pattern just havent gotten the nerve to do it. Too many holes!! If I do it I'll stack cut it cause I won't want to do it again. LOL
  23. Glad to hear they traded it out, at least for me, it's rare to find stores that really take care of the customer.
  24. Whoo hooo we're in the lead. LOL
  25. yeah I love it, but like he said, I wouldn't have painted maple, if I was going to paint it, i'd have used some other cheap wood, MDF, or plywood even.
