Yes I turned the base on my lathe. It is called basket illusion. The weave around the outside I did with a wood burner. This is a picture of just the base.

Thanks. I draw the pattern myself with a free program. I think it is called poly draw.

Making a lamp for a contest at our wood turning club. The lamp was made on the lathe but the shade was made with the scroll saw.
  7. Could be you are pushing too hard, trying to cut too fast. Try slowing down a little and see if that helps. I stack cut three of these. They are 1/4” plywood and I can cut it out with only two tiny 3/0 spiral blades.
  8. Slow and steady is the key. Don’t try to cut any faster than the blade will allow. I made some crosses out of Purpleheart, that was some very slow cutting.
  9. I use Arm R Seal. I thin it with around 10% mineral spirits. It won’t flake or peal. Everybody I know that sells bowls and things use this. Have you thought of using a small inexpensive air brush since what you are finishing is small.
  10. Great news. Glad to hear you are doing good. I am in the shop a lot but have been bitten buy the wood turning bug so I haven’t used my scroll saw much.
  11. I quit using packaging tape and have been using blue painters tape. The blue painters tape hold my stack cutting together great and comes off easy after.
  12. Welcome to the addiction. Glad you got the saw running.
  13. Very cool. Reminds me of the bird we would get as a kid that would drink water.
  14. Check out Keim Lumber in Ohio. They have a lot of specialty items also. I like to go up and look around because you always see a lot more in person than online. The place is huge.
  15. I use the FD new 3/0 spirals on stack cut plywood up to 3/4” thick and 3/8” hardwood.
  16. I use the ones that hammer in. I can’t complain because I got a good size box of them for free.
  17. I do the same thing.
  18. I would return it for a replacement. If I had problems with the second one I would return it and change brands.
  19. I have done fretwork that takes around 12 hours to cut out and can’t get people to pay more than $50. Here is an example.
  20. I guess it depends on where you live. You wouldn’t be able to sell that where I live for half that price.
  21. I think it is a great idea.
  22. Made a couple of ornaments today for a giveaway at church. I made them out of cedar and didn’t put a finish on them so they would keep the scent.
  23. I have that feature on my drill press. I used it a little at first but haven’t in quite a while. I drill all of my starter holes for fretwork with a dremmel. I have better control than with the drill press.
  24. I bought a Cutech. It has the helical cutter. My neighbor was surprised how quiet it is. It does a great job and I am very happy with it. When I can afford a planer I am going to buy it from them also.
  25. It is just pine. I stain it with a stain called gunstock.
