  1. Denny they look great. I love doing them . I was doing a demo once and cut the one side and then did the other in front of a bunch of kids and they were surprised to see what was inside. When I do them I put a little moss from the dollar store.
  2. Hi Gary The font I use for Intersecting Word Art is Times or New Times as the big letters and Scroll_scriptmt for the small. I have used other script fonts for the small including bird of paradise but find it easier not adding the bridges. BoP also requires some kerning. I have no idea where this comes from as I have been saving fonts for years and years. Make sure to save to disk. Then go to the folder you save the font in and right click and install for all users. This is the problem that some people have with bird of paradise. Scroll_scriptmt.ttf
  3. When I try and select a font from my window\fonts I get a message that I have to be the admin to access. Therefore, I go to Nexusfont and select font and then copy to a backup directory. Then in then STENCILFY program go to the directory and select font you want and then STENCILFY. Viola. Not sure it is the way I would do it. Here is the example I ran an example with bird of paradise. Here is the sample of before and answer.
  4. Frank Really like the back ground. Sam's patterns are really great. ->>> Don Watson Sam's patterns are here - https://www.facebook.com/pg/Sam-Custodio-Workshop-Designs-957050487745457/photos/?ref=page_internal You have to scroll down a few pages to find the illusion patterns as they are mixed in to the gallery.
  5. Were are you located? It makes it easier for recommendations on were to buy stuff. I have an EX-21 which is the same as the current the current King line available at Woodcraft. Sold in Canada as Excelsior. If you are in Canada or close to the border the price in Canada is the same or cheaper than the Woodcraft price the add on 30% discount on the exchange it is a great price. One Canadian dealer has the Excelsior 16inch -$699700Cdn, 21 -$999Cdn, 30 - $1269 Love my EX-21. Nearly 10 years old and is used a lot.
  6. You need a chain saw if you buy a lathe and then you can really spend a lot on tools. Slippery slope
  7. I would look for a variable speed grinder. If some day you want to add a wonder wheel to the other end higher speed is recommended. The flex drum sander are fantastic.
  8. Very close to autumn in November. It looks like someone tweeked a little bit. Check out https://mistifonts.com/autumn-in-november/ It may be a derivative.
  9. Good Morning Gary.

I watched your post about Name sign and did not want to highjack the post but I did have a couple of comments.

    1.  Original sign you posted the scripted was not Bird of Paradise font as the & sign is different.

    2. I have done quite a few of these type of signs and have found the for ScriptMT works quite well and you do not have to spend a lot of time adding bridges to the font.  When I used to use BoP I would usually miss a bridge or they would be sloppy.  BoP is a little fancier.

    3. Attached is the sign using Script MT and Times New Roman for you to compare difference.

I design my is 12 by 4 so you need legal paper .

If you want the svg and or the font let me know.

Thanks Don !! That looks really nice! I don't know what the problem is with Bird of Paradise, it's on the laptop in Word...but I can never get it to come up in Inkscape.

I really like the font you used. That would be good not having to hunt for all the islands and make bridges that are uniform through the words.

Yes please, I would like the svg and the font !  Thanks again!

  10. I buy mine from http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/sanding-mops.html They are in Canada but ship to the USA a lot as they are real close to the border. I have both the Max Mop and the Sanding mop. I have the Sanding Mops in a few grits but the Max Mop is a spindle at 180. They are not cheap but I use the Max Mop a lot and have had a long time. In USA available at https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=max+mop The sanding mop is https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search.aspx?q=sandin+mops
  11. Been there done it with small pieces with Intarsia. My dust collector behind my flex sander had bars across but that was not enough as it sucked in a little piece I dropped and the blades made mince meat out it. I then but in bird screening at the back. With my mop sander I added a piece of carpet underlay to the left to catch the dropped pieces.
  12. Funny they get added to 'PAPA do list" pretty quick. Maybe it is the price. LOL
  13. My Grandson plays for the Don Mills Flyers in Toronto so I made ornaments for the 8 coaches.
  14. Made this for my Grandson who is a big Star Trek Fan. Steve Goods pattern that I modified with the pattern I got some were here.
  15. A couple of weeks ago there was a post regarding making Sue Mey's angels for charity. I had the pattern but never thought about reducing the size. That got me thinking. I reduced and cut one and the delicate wing broke so I revised the pattern to take the veins in the wing out. I cut the 2 patterns below and my wife actually preferred the solid wing. I did some at 3 inches and some at 3 1/2 with solid wings. Done in 1/8 Baltic birch and glitter spray paint. I am going to the annual volunteers luncheon at our local support centre (Hearth Place) and should be one for everyone there (I hope as I have done 40). I will also give out the one with the open wing and the recipient will get a special gift of a wood pen. Don Love the inspiration I get here in the Village.
  16. Steve Good uses upper case to get away from that problem.
  17. I like the idea. Not sure about the price. When you convert to CDN $ it seems expensive. I buy Steve's every year even though I have not used in the last 2 years as I had other ideas for personalized ornaments for the family. I think these are ornaments are pretty basic but I would imagine over the years they would evolve.
  18. The only thing I did was cut then out, dye the hands and feet and spray paint the shelf. I am not artistic at all. The cute painting like face and ears and decorating etc. done by my wife. Yes the guest take them home.
  19. I recently entered Simply wooden creations scroll saw challenge with a video. First time I ever did a video and it is hard. I used Shotcut to edit the video and I found out in a hurry that I do not have a fast enough computer to work on video and the sound at the same time. Came out okay but not going to win any Oscar. Shotcut is free and there are a ton of videos. Fun to do and I am in the process of doing a compilation of hockey videos and some are from my cell phone that I have transferred to my computer.
  20. Each year we do an item for Christmas diner place setting. (19 coming for dinner this year) This year is an Elf on a Shelf. Modified Sue Mey pattern. Feet my design. Before you ask the shelf was a last minute design change as they are top heavy and would not sit up.
  21. Nice idea and appreciate info on laser. I would love to have my own laser so I could date the inscription or personalize scroll items. At that price point will definitely pursue. Steve Good sells personalized plugs too but won't ship to Canada. A fellow at our club does them at $1 a piece and will do different pictures.
  22. 29 after Marc Andre Fleury of Vegas Knights. He used to be 31 after Carey Price and we have scrolled that number a few times. It is a Canadian thing.
  23. Made this for my Grandson who plays goal for the Don Mills Flyers.
  24. Ornaments don't have to be about Christmas. Take a look at last year's book. Lot's snowflakes, occupations, scenes etc. I did mine based on a teacher's theme as my daughter wanted for a gift for her staff. Couple of years ago I did a couple based on Harry Potter. Weird but it was a request from the secretary at the church. Good luck.
  25. the PDF is just a list on fonts I have. Most come from the system or dafont. If not PM me and I will send. As Jim says when you down load a zip file make sure you save it on your system just don't open it and install. Once on your font is on you system click and then click install for all users. That makes it available for all programs including Inkscape. If install for all users does not come up you have either not save to disk or you are running as admin only.
