  1. Atlas Machinery are good people to deal with but you will have to deal with Shipping. There are lots of King Canada dealers and service centers (especially in PQ). I think the $999 price is by King it is in there flyer but you never know. Good Luck.
  2. Welcome to the village. Where in the great white north. I am in Brooklin Ontario just East of Toronto. I have an older Excalibur that was built by General before the great confusion set in. I love my EX-21 and have used most every day for last 10 years. If I was looking today in Canada I would be looking at the King. Made in same shop at the EX-21. It comes in 16, 21 and 30. Pegas would be a strong contender except for the cost. Pegas 1075+foot pedal (46) plus stand (113) plus HST + delivery King 21 999 (foot pedal included) + $100 stand + HST ( depending where you are you may be able to pick up).
  3. Thanks to Steve Good for last weeks patterns. I like to do "dimensional" patterns and last week was right down my alley. Along came Fred, and then Fred Junior and Fred III. I also liked the gnomes.
  4. I second the box. I did the one with my wives initial K awhile ago. What looks like the band saw box I did on the scroll saw. Sue Mey has some lovely fretwork boxes. Steve Good has lots too. You say "girlfriend/wife" maybe a small box with appropriate jewelry inside.
  5. If you are a newbie cutting 1/8 Baltic Birch on it own is difficult. It is easier to control the blade when cutting 1/8 material when you stack cut. You get more resistance and more control. Steve Good has some comments on cutting thin wood at https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2020/05/mini-church-electric-tea-light-candle.html There is a video imbedded that is interesting for new and experienced.
  6. Each year I make gifts for the teachers at my daughters school. She is the principal. This year it is mini birdhouses. Numbers way down this year as some of the teachers reassigned to the virtual school.
  7. I used to have a 6 inch bench top and it was fine for the short narrow pieces I did for cutting boards etc. Had no room when I moved so I gifted it forward. The ideal for a scroller would be a 10 inch but you have to look at the wood you can buy and the projects you want to do and marry them up. If you are going to be doing recycle wood it wise to invest in a metal detector. I have the wand type that can detect my ring thru a 6/4 board even then I missed a couple of nail heads and there went a planer blade.
  8. The little square carbide cutters are called Helical cutters. I have an old Delta planner that serves me well. I do not have jointer and used the one at our club but with club closed due to covid I have been looking closely at a bench top jointer. I don't do real long boards so this would be fine. There seems to be different type of cutters some 4 sided and some 2 sided. I also want to get at least an 8 inch. I have been looking at the Richon but the 8 inch jointer is not available in Canada yet. They have a 5 year warranty. If I had he money I would buy the 10 inch combination helical planner/jointer.
  9. I went back on my post on the other site. I tried again it works on all the patterns I have from Sue. It is really important to firstly ungroup. (in object menu or shift ctrl g) The do trace bitmap. The path is on top and the image is below. Move over the path and then select image and delete. Select the path image and set the stroke either use the fill and stroke menu under object menu or right click on the red across the bottom and set stroke) If this does not work PM me the pattern and I will return. I will not copy or use as I respect all our pattern makers. I just tried a couple of patterns that I purchased from Sue.1. Open the PDF page in Inkscape2. Select picture and ungroup.3. Trace Bitmap (under Path tool)4. Select the image and delete.5. Select the Path and set stroke to red. Note, You will have both a stoke and fill. Depending on the exact colour you want you may want to delete the fill.If you have any other questions please post.I hope Sue does all her patterns the same.
  10. I quickly looked at my font collections and printed a sample of some of the fonts that might work. Most of my fonts come from dafont or 1001freefonts. If you see something and can't find it send me a PM. Most of the stuff I do is sports related so I either use a Cooper Black, Braddon or a font like Collegiate or Freshman. I also did sign using Texas and it was different. but can't find picture. TEST ONTS.pdf
  11. Could you post a picture of what you are currently doing as It may make a difference? Do you need just caps? Are these stuck on? Thanks I do sports ribbon racks and in this example the name is in Collegiate. The top is cooper black.
  12. A friend used to make urns and he said it was 1 cubic inch per pound. So is would have to be 200 inches. He made them so the bottom was removable with screws.
  13. You are right Scott has one close. Note the hand is in a different location. Maybe easy change. https://woodcraftbyscott.com/products/puzzle-patterns-sea-beach-creatures?variant=2187467685903
  14. Thanks. I now know what to look for. Amazon USA won't ship this item to Canada. I have found cheap in China but shipping puts it out of question. Will keep on looking
  15. They are really great. Where did you get the light boxes from? Thanks Don
  16. I live just east of Toronto and so far the region has not said no to Halloween. It maybe modified yet but so far they have not said no so I am ready for my social distancing. Made this shoot so that if we get kids which I just love. Made from scraps. Ps The sign below the Pumpkin says out of Candy if you turn over. MVI_8189.MOV
  17. Frank are you stack cutting? When I do I stack 4 - 1/8 and cut every thing but the name. Split and then add and cut the name. Masks are a fun thing and look good.
  18. Designed this based on the idea from Scroller Pete. Size 10 h x 17 w.
  19. Do you have any lumber shops around? Not big box. The cost for a 5 ' x 5 - 9mm BB is $29.95 at my local shop CDN $, So that would be about $25 US. You would get the 3 pieces you require plus one extra and 2 12x30. You may have to pay to to have cut down so it fits in your car. My shop cost $1 per cut after first.
  20. That is very cool. Thanks for info on font. I love this kind of font as it has all sorts of neat gliphs. Well done.
  21. Dennis Where are you located as it might make a difference. For shipping etc. I have an older EX-21 with Pegas blade holders and love it.
  22. Thanks Just bought the #2 for now. Been working on my prototype. First cut in 1/4 BB too heavy. Will do in 1/8 and then wait approval by the boss.
  23. Just noticed the Covid decorations. They look great. I saw on Sue Mey's site and I have a couple of questions What size are they? What pattern pack did you buy. Mask set 1 or 2. Thanks
  24. That is in the current issue number 81. It is in the insert panel which is really hard to copy. I usually get a copy at Walmart if I see something I like.
  25. Due to Covid-19 all events in Ontario have been cancelled including the Woodshow in Toronto. It was a great event but this year it is going to go virtual. They will have a number of seminars and the ability to tour vendor sites. Not sure how it all works. It will be FREE but you can pay $9.95 CDN (7.50US) and get access to the seminars for the next year. Today it was announced that they will have a scroller - Lesley De Abaitua from Oak & Feather - doing a seminar each day on a project. Her website is https://oakandfeatherdecor.com/ Here is a link to the seminar. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2406648209641983&extid=JexrrGBB17ENptD1 If you want to sign up see – https://woodshows.com PS: I have no affiliation with the show except I would like to see them continue.
