first veneer job and a rug holder for a customer
heppnerguy replied to amazingkevin's topic in Bragging Rights
You never know what you are going to see you post from one time to the next. This is indeed an interesting variety of items in this one.. Enjoyed viewing them Dick heppnerguy -
An interesting event indeed. It is a new one on me too. Instead of stopping and changing blades at the tight corners, why did you just not back out a little and approach the corner from a different angle? That is what I used to do when I was first learning and it always worked well for me then. Dick heppnerguy

With the wonderful items you have....I am as certain as you are, that they will move year around. I love the box I bought from you for my wife..I wanted to buy it so I could have a personal look at it and see your wonderful work. Because of my lack of a band saw big enough to produce those boxes, I never ventured farther into making them. I did make one and I have it in my den. Dick heppnerguy

I was thinking about the flat furniture gliders that you put between the furniture and the rug of floor so one can move them with little effort..not the wheeled item you posted.. Dick heppnerguy

there is also Woodenteddybear.com...... they sell patterns from many of the big pattern makers from their page.. Lots of great ideas here. I am going to check them out and see if I have all of them on my pattern suppliers too. Don't forget to check out the many good free patterns posted on this site Dick heppnerguy

Not that close, Sam.. I have so much on my plate right now. We have company coming from Portland and Heppner as well as Lake Havasu as well as friends that are snowbirds heading our way over the next 3 months. Also we are flying to Heppner for Thanksgiving with family for two weeks. I couldn't find the time right now , even it I wanted to. However, We are planning a trip some time this year to San Diego and perhaps I may try and find out how close you are to where we are going and see if we might be able to meet up for dinner or something Dick heppnerguy

Iggy, you never stop thinking. I have watched you develop into quite the merchandiser. Your booth and display have come to be one for the customer to see all the great variety of puzzles and other things you make. Even though there is a large selection in your booth, they never seem to be cluttered and messy. Good job Dick heppnerguy

I liked the furniture slider solution. I think it would work really well for you. Dick heppnerguy

This forum is Family. Everyone is helpful and quick to respond to questions and make the newbie feel right at home. I love this place and I feel I already know so many of you and actually would not know you if I was standing beside you at Wal Mart as I truly have not had the opportunity to meet very many in person, but the few I have met are like old time friends. I have, personally, helped several people in many areas such as pattern making, exchanging wood for other products they have, walking several people through things on the phone.. I love it when I can help people here. I have never regretted on time, that I chose to become a member of this forum. Dick heppnerguy

I would buy it if it were not so far away from me. I keep looking for one on craigslist.. Maybe some day I will find one in Arizona. Dick heppnerguy

I just Googled the saw you purchased. I see they sell for around $70. I do have to agree with Scrappile and if there is a chance you can return this saw, I can guarantee you that you will be happy you did. If this is in the budget you have to work with, I might suggest you look into the Ryobi veriable speed saw. It sells for about $90 but you will be way happier with that saw as things will be way more manageable and rewarding with this saw. Granted, it is far from the best saw on the market but for the money you can cut about anything you wish to with it and after a year or two you may wish to go for a higher quality saw. At ;east with the Ryobi you will not be losing much if you decide that scrolling is not for you, (and I can not imagine that could ever be the case). So Good luck and Welcome to you from Arizona Dick heppnerguy

Glad that you have decided to give scrolling a shot. it is very addicting and also very rewarding. I am not familiar with the saw you purchased but I do know one of the most important things that will help you the most is selecting the correct saw blades for the job you are going to cut. You will not find the blades for this kind of work at the big box stores, they simply do not carry them. If you are unsure about where to buy the correct ones or which blades to use for which wood, Just ask and you will get the answers you need. I would pay attention to Scrappile as he is a very knowledgeable and an accomplished scroller. If you have yet to use your saw, you might find out what saw is in your budget and consider returning yours and picking up one that will serve you better. Welcome to the Village and do not be discouraged by what seems to be negative thoughts here as all the people in the Village are really nice and helpful people that only wants your experience to be the best it can be. Thank you Sam, I made a rather large move in June. We moved from our home in Heppner, Oregon to Casa Grande, Arizona. That move was made after having lived in Heppner for 13 years. Because of the distance of our move, we decided to sell almost our entire house of furniture, except for 2 bedroom sets. It all happened really quickly so I was away from my scrolling and with out an operating computer for about a month before our moving date. I had to sell a lot of my wood and down size my shop of several of my larger tools because it was so far and we did not wish to make the trip twice. After we got to Arizona we were on the search for replacement furniture for our entire new home. This took about an additional month to accomplish. They we spent the month of August back in Heppner visiting our family there, along with going to Portland and attending a baby shower for one of our granddaughters that was having her first child and she had flown into Portland from North Carolina for the shower. Following the shower we went to Salem where we watched the wonderful and exciting full solar eclipse from there it was back to Heppner for one more week before the long drive back to Arizona. We were back about a week and then we were off to Mexico where we stayed for 5 days at a wonderful resort. So now you can understand a little about why I have not spent much time here in The Village this summer. I can't believe you missed me here, I am such a small part of this huge world wide family. Thank you for thinking about me. Nice to hear someone cares enough to miss an old grumpy guy. You made me feel good inside Dick heppnerguy

Good take on men. I agree with you. Most of the things that I sell are also purchased by women. I personally like to look at what others make but that is usually about as far as I go. Woman love to shop and spend, way more then men, unless it is for fishing or hunting or gold items. Dick heppnerguy

I have made an effort at drying wood that people gave me. Some i had for a couple of years or so. Most ended up cracking or warping so that did it for me. not worth the wait, at least for me. I just turn down the fresh wood and buy on line. For me, my space is too valuable to use for speculation material. Dick heppnerguy

I wish I could help you also Sam but I think others got the message across. Good luck and try different finishes until you find the one you like best. Dick heppnerguy

Probably one of the best saws out there. Scrappile has had several saws and I would stick with his suggestions. A photo of the saw for the people on here to look at would probably be worth the wait on this saw. Then see what they have to say about it. You are talking about spending quite a bit of money on this saw, you will want to be sure it is worth the bucks. My oppinion Dick heppnerguy

Steve, Welcome from Arizona. I personally have never seen a Diamond scroll saw before but it looks like it is made quite well. So glad you found us here and hope to see more of your work in the future. I am sure you will have some helpful things for others, with several years of scrolling experience. I hope you log on often and become a regular here. I can assure you that you will never regret having done that as everyone is so friendly and helpful to one another here. Dick heppnerguy

Welcome Kathy, from Arizona. We are happy to find that another person decided to become a member of our big, friendly, world wide family. Be sure and log on often so everyone gets to know you better and visa versa. You were told correctly that this is a wonderful site for scroll saw fanatics. I hope you post some of your work as well as take a look around here and check out the pattern sections. There is a lot of great pattern makers here and you will probably get a few patterns of your bike to choose from .. Save them all and when you get one finished post it so the pattern maker can see how well you did with it Dick heppnerguy

Welcome to The Village, Travis. We are all glad that you found us and decided to join up. This site is filled with a lot of talented and friendly people. If you log on here often, it will only take a short time before you feel that you know a lot of us and you will soon also know that you have just made a bunch of new friends that love to help one another. I had a Ryobi scroll saw too, that I used for a couple of years and I surprised myself with all the things I found I could make on that saw. You will find that this saw has several week points and the parts will wear out fairly often. Good news is the replacement parts are cheap and very easy to replace by yourself. I got tired of having to do that so I eventually purchased an upgrade saw. The important thing that will help you the most is buying the correct blades to do your work. The blades you can purchase at the big box stores are NOT the ones you want to buy. Ask where to get blades if you don't already know and you will find several answers as to where to search and what blades to use. Don't let that confuse you, as everyone has different blades they seem to favor. Try a few different ones. they are not expensive and you will be glad you gave several a try. Good Luck from Arizona Dick heppnerguy

some wood is so difficult to cut that I too stay away from those. When what you love turns into 'work' instead of pleasure, I move on. Your piece turned out well. thanks for posting it for us all to enjoy Dick heppnerguy

Gator's piece is stunning indeed. I received the pattern yesterday. It looks really challenging. I hope I will be able to do this one. I doubt I can do as well as Gator but I am rolling up my sleeves and diving in. It looks a lot more challenging that the wooden gear clock...Wish me luck Dick
