  1. that sure turned out nicely. you did not fudge on the finishing of it. I will have to give you an A on this one as well. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Nice Paul...I believe you had this one started when I was at your house the last time. Why am I not surprised about how well it came out? Dick heppnerguy
  3. Spirals can be a challenge to those that use flat blades but I have worked with my spirals and found it did not take long to get a feel for them. I don't use them for the straight lines but with a pattern with lots of small fret work in them. the spiral is truly king Dick heppnerguy
  4. Ron has yet to do anything but amaze me with his talents. I am so glad Ron is a part of our Village family because he adds so much to us all Dick heppnerguy
  5. I don't think I would have thought about the different things that are placed on pallets and that they can be harmful. especially to others. Great point Dick heppnerguy
  6. I would bet that the customer will get a hold of you, unless he lost your card, as he or she would not have paid you for a piece, unless they really were looking forward to receiving it. If it were I that made this error, I would include a free piece as a 'forgive me' jester. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Another welcome, this time from sunny Arizona. Glad you chose us to join up with. We love new members. If you have not discovered yet, this site is full of fun loving and generous people who are always more than happy to help one another. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Welcome to the village. Getting wood the way you do serves two purposes. One things don't geet buried in the land fills and take up a lot of otherwise needed space and you are saving money on wood supplies. I don't see how it could be any better than that. Welcome to our Village family. Hope to see you here often Dick heppnerguy

    Hello

Welcome to The Village. We are all glad you came. I have to say that Meflick, gave you some really good things to think about. I started with a Ryobi and found I could make about anything I wanted to. However the material used in manufacturing the saw left a lot to be desired as i was continually replacing parts on it. but that said, they were inexpensive to buy and readily available. I then purchased a De Walt and loved that saw as it was super easy to work with and the blade changes were quick and easy. I did have some problems with the saw after about 4 years but it is an easy saw to work on and for the money, I think it is the best saw you can buy. I have owned 2 of them. I still think it is a really nice saw. I also have owned a Hawk, which I also believe is a really good saw but mine was used when I got it and I found that the tension settings and the blade changing was not to my liking so I did not use it much . However I still feel that Hawk is a great saw, just not one that I prefer. Don't jump too soon, any place you might find that sells saws and maybe can let you try them out, could be very helpful. Like Scrappile said,,,,,, saws are a choice that fits ones likes..and I use cars also to specify what is best for one is not necessarily the choice of another. Ford guys Don't like Chevys. Why? personal preferences. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Alexander, fist of all, I want to welcome you to The Village. I am unable to help you with your problem as I do not know anything about what you do. I am kind of an old guy so that is probably why I am unknowing of the things you are interested in. It looks like to me, that you are interested in making long items like swords or something like that and perhaps some time of handsaw and files might work better for you then a scroll saw , with all of it's limitations as to cutting long pieces of wood. Sorry I can not help you with this but I do have to say that I did enjoy your photos and the piece you made out of the Styrofoam. I hope, even if you do not get the answers you are after, that you continue to log on to the village as you will find the people here are friendly and fun to get to know. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Thank you everyone for the nice welcome back. I am glad to be back to our new home. Our eldest son will be here this evening for the first time to visit us here in Arizona. ended up with a warmer than usual temperature for this time of the year with 117 today. Need to get out and get more yard work done now but will try to check in again tomorrow. Nice to see what others have been up to during this month. need to get wood for the shop soon. Ordering some on line from Sloan/s tomorrow morning Dick heppnerguy
  12. I started with a one speed Delta and I never liked it. I purchased a Ryobi variable speed saw and enjoyed it a lot more. I used it about 18 moths and found the tension rod stripped our on a regular basis. Other parts had to be replaced but the parts were very inexpensive and easy to get. I got really tired of buying and replacing parts when I saw a DeWalt on sale for under 350 dollars and free shipping so I purchased that.I really enjoyed that saw and put a bunch of hours on it. I went to an estate sale and found a Hawk for $65 and I could not pass that up. I never really liked the saw because of the blade changing process on it. One of our members here sent me some really nice blade holders that he made that changed that problem. My daughter started making intarsia and I gave her my Hawk as a gift, as I wanted her to start with a good saw. Just before my move from Oregon to Arizona, I purchased Scrappile's Ex 21 and I fell in love with is. Because the EX is no longer in production, I would recommend the DeWalt as the best saw for those who just can not put out more than $500 for a scroll saw. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Again I say Hello to all my friends here in the village. I just returned to our new home in Arizona after a one month vacation back in Oregon. We stayed in our previous town of Heppner and stayed with our two daughters, We saw many of our friends there and during the first two weeks there, I was able to go to Tri Cities Washington and see our good friend, Paul, known to all as Scrappile. We had a great time sharing stories and I checked out his new Seyco scroll saw. He continues his masterful talent on that saw, just as he did on his EX 21. So glad i took the time to see him. We also went to the Portland area to go to my granddaughter baby shower. She flew in from North Carolina for it, as she grew up in Portland. We next drove to Salem, Oregon where we viewed the eclipse in it's entirety for just over two minutes. It was so cool. We were able to see the stars in mid morning. It was a clear sunny day and I will never forget it. Glad to be back home, We have a lot to do but I should soon be able to be back here with my Scroll saw family daily, very soon. Missed you all. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Glad you found us. We love sharing our knowledge and skills with others. if you find you are struggling with something or not sure where to buy the best products or supplies, ASK. What saw do you own and what kind of wood have you been using so far?. These are things that can be helpful to us to know, should you have particular need or question. Welcome to you from Arizona Dick heppnerguy
  15. Welcome from Arizona. so glad you found us in The Village. I was in Germany a couple of years ago and could not believe how friendly everyone is there. I can easily understand why you elected to stay there to live. Everything is so beautiful and clean there. Take you time with you cutting and start with what looks like easy patterns and then gradually work into more difficult ones once you realize the ones you have previously cut is coming easy to you. That way you will only enjoy what you are doing and not get discouraged as you progress. feel free to ask any questions and be prepared to receive many helpful replies. That is one of the things the people here love to do, share their knowledge and skills with each other Dick heppnerguy
  16. Welcome to our family of scrollers. We are glad you decided to join us here in The Village. An electric hand held sander is a must, but you can get along with out one if you need to for awhile. You can find a drill press for a reasonable price at Harbor Freight that will serve your needs. I would not use blades from the big box store but rather purchase them on line. There are several places to go for those. Ask if you need help with that and you will soon have a nice assortment of places to buy them. Does you saw take non pinned blades and is it variable speed. These are things you will want in the near future if you do not have them now. you will need to have a printer for you patterns and spray glue or you can use blue painter 's tape and a glue stick will also work. Good luck, and happy scrolling. Ask any questions you may have and I am sure your friend will be more than help you to get you started Dick heppnerguy
  17. Welcome to the Village. We all our happy to have you choose to join us. I hope you enjoy logging on here and becoming familiar with all of the regulars Dick heppnerguy
  18. Welcome to our family. I too would raise your prices some. But then, I scroll because I love it smr only sell so that my supplies do not cost me anything. You are in a good time to do this as craft shows are going to be springing up as people are getting ready for Christmas. I also wish you luck as crafts can be a tough way to try to make a living. Many Reasons able to do so Dick heppnerguy
  19. A big welcome from Arizona, as well. We all love it when someone decidesays to become a part of our family. You raised the level of scrolling when it comes to signs. Your work is not only well done but also an insperation to me to work on my creativity. I hope you take the time to log on often so everyone gets opportunity to get to know you better and you to know us as well. The people in The Village are very friendly and love to share their talents as well as their work with others. Glad you are here with us Dick heppnerguy
