  1. Well, I decided yesterday to go to the shop and try to cut another piece out with the spiral blade. You may or may not remember but a couple of months ago I decided that I wanted to learn to use the spiral blade and I cut three patterns with them. Then I got a rather busy time in my life and could not seem to get to the shop much, I thought it would be a nice time to give it another go. So I went through my pattern library and found a Charles Dearing pattern of a swan and it's chick and went to work on it. It was not that complicated and I finished it in a couple of hours. I was rather pleased with the results so I decided to post it and see what you people think. Dick hepppnerguy
  2. fun to make gifts of apprecitation to someone that has done something for you. I know they will cherish them, not only for the nice pieces of our work but also because you cared enough to do that for them Dick heppnerguy
  3. We could start our own "quiet" rock band with all the new guitars..... Dick heppnerguy
  4. I have to chime in with my whole hearted agreement. This place is too valuable to upset one another over political views or religious arguments Dick heppnerguy
  5. Kevin, Is this directed at me? If you feel I am ignoring you, it is measly an over sight or I missed a post. I always try to answer any questions that are directed at me. I never purposely snub anyone, especially someone I consider a friend like I do you and everyone on the site. Tell me if I have failed you somehow. If I did, I apologize Dick heppnerguy
  6. I would estimate the length to be about 16 inches. It is an easy cut and a fun display for the music /guitar person Dick
  7. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I am in hopes that she will like the paper pattern cut. I find it rather interesting and it should be decorative. I am looking forward to cutting another of my paper patterns this week. They are fun and easy to cut and nice to look at, in my view. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Thanks fun pieces to work on. I liked them when I saw them and thought they would make a nice decorative piece Dick heppnerguy
  9. Sorry Steve I do not understand your question Dick heppnerguy
  10. This is a quick and easy one to make, probably under 3 hours start to finish for this one. I have to say, that I like the pattern too, although I am not into guitars but for some people it is a perfect gift. This friend of mine will surely like this one, I imagine.. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Clayton, This proves you are indeed an intarsia artist. This is extremely well done. I am still amazed when I see something so expertly make. From the wood choices to the cutting and shaping and finally the finish on it. Nothing could be done any nicer. Take a bow, you deserve one, or two or more Dick heppnerguy
  12. I will keep you in mind, should I decide it will not work well for me... I am anxious to test it out and see how it performs. Dick heppnerguy
  13. My wife has another birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and has asked me for an additional flower piece to go along with the other two I made for her earlier. so I went to my JGR patterns that I have previously purchased and made her this one. I also had another paper cut pattern that I got for free off the internet and cut it for her. It is quite decorative and I think she will enjoy it. I love cutting the fret work pieces like this one.. 14. I posted the ram that I made for my long time friend who is having a surprise birthday coming up, well, he was in a band years ago and is a self taught guitar player and can play anything on his guitar, really well, after only listening to it. Amazes me, but anyway this Steve Good pattern was the perfect fit for him and only takes a short time to make. I have made and sold a few of these on my page so it was like de ja vue (sp), to knock out one more just for him.. It just seemed like the right thing to do Dick heppnerguy
  15. I like cutting trivets because they are so useful and nice to look at. Your did a great job on it Dick heppnerguy
  16. nothing like a buck well spent. It takes a buck to make a buck, or something like that Dick heppnerguy
  17. I have never seen this pattern before... cute littel piece should appeal to the cat lover for sure Dick heppnerguy
  18. Dave, You are a quick learner and are selling with a proffesional looking display, Everything looks terrific. I also agree with dgman on his suggestion.. You rock, Dave Dick heppnerguy
  19. I think it looks like a good addition to any shop. I would be willing to give this a try, If it turned out that I did not like it I would pay it forward with free shipping too.. If it is available I would like a shot at it Dick heppnerguy
  20. Nice job, wife. I love it when the little wife has you in mind and also an understanding of what you might enjoy having. You are a lucky man to have a wife that keeps her eyes open and does not hesitate when the find is perfect. My wife is the same way.. love it Dick heppnerguy
  21. I really like this suggestion of yours. Nice fonts and perfect explanations, in my oppinion Dick heppnerguy
  22. Melanie, glad to have you aboard. I too started with intarsia but never had the opportunity to get some first hand instructions like you have. Lucky you. It is all a learning experience for me. I have to agree that intarsia really is a lot easier to do then fret scrolling but for some reason a lot of people seem to be intimidated by it. I have to say, loggin on here often is a must, as that is how we all get to know each other. If you do that you will discover that everyone if very friendly and it will only take a short time before you are comfortable with us. Dick heppnerguy

    Hi

Welcome to The Village. My suggestion would be to not try and hurry your way through your project. Remember time is your friend here. Start with really simple patterns until you feel comfortable with them. Starting with a complex pattern without practicing, beable to stay on the lines and making sharp turns, will most likely lead to disapointment for most new scrollers. the correct wood and blades will make all the difference with your success. Good luck and be sure and log on here often so everyone can get to know you, it is a great wonderful world wide family here, waiting to add new members with open arms Dick heppnerguy
  24. I have a long time friend that is going to have a birthday next month so I decided to make him something. I started going through my patterns and found this JGR pattern that I purchased some time back but had never made. I chose that one because i not only liked the pattern but just because I had not attempted to make it before now. so here is the results. The good news from Heppner is, my eldest daughter decided she wanted to get into scrolling and intarsia so she made her first piece and has started her second one. when she has them finished, I hope to get her involved in SSV and get to know all you wonderful people here Dick heppnerguy
  25. I really like it too... Keep posting your wonderful work for all of us to enjoy Dick heppnerguy
