  1. I love this one. If I ever see this pattern, I too will take a crack at it. You put the stakes up really high too match your work Dick heppnerguy
  2. You did a really nice job designing, cutting and finishing all of these trophies. It would be fun for you to be able to attend the award ceremonies and see the look on the winners faces. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Thank you everyone for all nice comments. It was the largest piece I have made except for my intarsia White House. I have had the pattern for awhile but I was not ready to cut it until I visited Paul ( scrap pile) and got tenth used to push the envelope a little. Dick heppnerguy
  4. My wife says she awarding you 5 brownie points for that comment Dick heppnerguy
  5. I know it makes one feel poorly when you work so hard on a piece and a part breaks off. Everyone who has done some cutting on delicate pieces have most likely run into that problem, I know I have, more than once. I see those as learning experiences and a wake up for the next piece I am cutting. I too would use thinner wood for portraits and take your time. Your piece looks really great. It will be fun when you have done several prortraits and realize how much you have accomplished as you go. Nice job here Dick heppnerguy
  6. I am just about finished with this one. I have been working on it for a couple of weeks, on and off. In the mean time I did several other pieces. My bride is holding this one and is ready to hang it on the wall. As you can see from the photo it is a rather large piece. I modified the pattern by changing the fonts and adding the praying hands on the top and the darker, extending small backers on that and the Angels on the sides. OOPS, Thanks Steve...I thought for sure I had the photo uploaded... shows you how alert I am Dick heppnerguy
  7. And I got to view this one in person while at Paul's house on Friday. I do have to say that as nice as his work is here, They are eve n more impressive when you see the real thing.. They take your breath away, almost Dick heppnerguy
  8. these should be perfect for where you live.. Let us know how it sells for you.. better make some backups too, would hate to see you lose sales because you only had one or two of them Dick heppnerguy
  9. I can't say that I would have the ability to build my own scroll saw but you took the task head on and came out with something that you can use.. be interesting to see more of your work..and see how you feel about your saws performance as you go about using it Dick heppnerguy
  10. I was thinking about all the scrap I through away and was thinking I should print some small patterns and cut them on the scrap instead of burning so much of it in my burn barrel.. you certainly made good use of yours, Bobby Dick heppnerguy
  11. Nice signs. puts the owners sport preference out front for all to see... I love them all Dick heppnerguy
  12. Always creating.. that is one of your great traits, Kevin. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Hey great idea. There are a lot of horses around here, it should work for me too...Do you care if I use your idea way over here in little ole Heppner? If you object I will pass on the idea.. Dick heppnerguy
  14. I too use both brands and for me, they both seem about the same.. maybe I don't pay enough attention to them but if I do not like a particular blade for some reason or another, I just try to remember not to order that particular one again. everyone has their own favorite blade and none is the 'best' blade or no one would have a need to make other sizes and styles. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I love the opportunity to meet our Village family members whenever the opportunity arrives. I would suggest that you make the effort to meet up with Doug again and get to know each other better. Friendships are built with effort. A one time meeting is fun and exciting but an effort to see others on a somewhat regular basis is so well worth your time.. Dick Ciao, Paul is an amazing and very artistic person. I was truly blown away looking at the great detail he achieves in his work. It is effort of others like Paul that inspires others to go the extra mile. We talked about the pattern makers and what wonderful artist they are. Steve Good is such an inspiration to so many scrollers with all his free patterns he produces. It is wonderful to have people like him and our own Travis that has and continue to have done so much for all of us. Thanks for you post, Ciao, as posts like yours makes the rest of us know and understand that the people here in The Village truly care about one another Dick Although Paul and I live in different states, (Oregon and Washington ) we both live with in 50 miles of the boarder so it is not a big deal to take an hour and a half to drive to each others homes and spend a little time together. Friends are certainly worth our time and effort to see each other now and then. What better thing do we have then the time we spend with friends and family? Dick
  16. Funny you said that about presents as scrolling has taken the terrible shopping for birthdays and holidays away from me. I used to go to the mall for those only to have no idea of what to buy. Now I cut a couple of new pieces and the wife is happy. Way better for me.. Dick heppnerguy
  17. I know. I did think about that too but my wife went to the mall and insisted on having our one cell phone so I had no way to do that. Maybe next time Dick heppnerguy
  18. Len, Paul is such a better scroller than am I and it was great to see all his amazing work. The one thing I hope I came away from there was, I need to take extra care with my cuttings and other work and start taking the time to be a little more of perfectionist. As I near completion of a project, I find that I am so anxious to finish that I rush things too much.. I hope seeing Paul's great work will help me to slow down a little. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I have snipped the nails in the past and it seemed to work but I was not sure that it would work really well using this method in BB Ply. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I have never even seen one of these before. What an amazing find. I have a cousin that has a collection of planes that belonged to my great grandfather but they are all wooden ones. Each had a different blade for a different use and I do not think the blades were interchangeable, but I am not certain about that.. My great grandfather was a carpenter from about 1870 to I would guess about 1920. Your planes a fabulous as well as having all the different blades and the original container for them.. GREAT FIND, INDEED Dick heppnerguy
  21. This morning my wife and I took a trip up to Tri-Cities Washington. My wife spent 3 hours in the mall and I met up with our one and only Scrappile, (Paul) and spent the time my wife was in the mall at Paul's house and got a good look at his shop as well as a huge amount of his wonderful work. Not only is he a top notch scroller, but he showed me some furniture he made and his really cool cigar box banjos he made. He also has a sale boat in his garage that we never got to today as well as an organ grinder that he hand made and he played it for me. It was beyond belief. This guy is so full of talent, I can not believe my eyes as I looked about the rooms of his basement where he has some of the coolest scrolling my eyes have had the luxury to behold. This was all in the house that, yes again, Paul built. It was great getting to know him a little better. We also exchanged a little bit of wood and he gave me a tub of glue to help me with my pieces coming unglued and falling to the floor. Thanks Paul for the interesting and fun time with you Dick heppnerguy
  22. Nicely done. It shouts with the love and concern of a loving effort on your part. They will be proud to display it. Wherever that special place may become and I am sure it will be pointed out that you were that maker of it. Dick heppnerguy
  23. One of our granddaughters moved in with us yesterday until she finds a job and gets her own apartment. Her birthday was today and although my wife had already purchased several gifts for her, I had to make this piece for her because I ran across the pattern yesterday and giraffes are her favorite animal. She loved it and it also gave me a perfect opportunity to try and make another frame. I had this frame figured out and gout together. It was near perfect until I got the giraffe cutout ready to put into it and then discovered I had made it too large. I decided to cut it and make it smaller. Well after I cut it I no longer had a perfect corner match but it was too late to start another and besides it was pretty good for me and in outraged me to keep trying. Who knows, maybe I will figure those out some day Dick heppnerguy
  24. Good for you, Dave. I am so pleased for you that you are doing so well selling things. You have always done very good work and seeing someone who is relatively new at scrolling, do so well, makes my heart feel good Dick heppnerguy
  25. Kevin, Interesting name. My last name is not Heppner, if you were thinking that. My last name is Jones but I live in the small town of Heppner. My daughters name is Theresa and her last name I'ds also Jones. Cute connection though Dick heppnerguy
