  1. Keeping with the push my envelope mode, I decided to give this one a try too. I am happy enough with the outcome but I am anxious to get it finished and then see how it really came out. Dick heppnerguy
  2. One thing I learned many years ago, is one can pick up a paint brush and mat and try to paint the Mona Lisa but no matter how hard one may try, It will not fool anyone. One can not paint like a master painter, without first learning the basics and then practice, practice, practice and then perhaps down the road one may succeed at being able to paint fairly well. For me, it has been a practice, practice time and now I feel like I am learning enough to give these finer and more delicate pieces a shot. I have found that doing something way before you are ready is a good avenue to disapointment.. I have just now reached a time in my scrolling where I feel that I may have a chance at success so i am now willing to take the chance and push my envelope Dick heppnerguy
  3. Thanks for the tip. I am well aware of the zero clearance and I guess I should probably should again use them as when a piece breaks, it is not a fun experience. I used to use them but have not bothered to do it yet on these..I think I should take your advice and do it again as I am now trying to cut more delicate pieces. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I use both and keep trying different blades.. Just when I think I have found the perfect blade for me. I start cutting different things and then all of a sudden I have a new 'perfect' blade. Blades are kind of like cars or saws, no car or saw is perfect for everyone. You just need to try different ones and see which work best for you. I use both brands and usually buy both at the same time.. so just keep trying different ones until you find the one for you. Then don't be surpised if you too end up learning to like a different blade, down the road Dick heppnerguy
  5. good progress.. This is going to be a great project. I can't wait to see the finished piece Dick heppnerguy
  6. I have been looking at this sitting Santa pattern for a long time and thinking that I would love to be able to cut, but it is above my skill level. After I visited with Scrappile and saw all his wonderful and amazing things that he cuts, I decided that I need to go ahead and challenge myself, a little. This in mind, I decided this afternoon to give it a try. This was after I have a piece break off on a patter that was quite a big easier than this one, but what the heck. can't give up just because I loose one now and then, so I went for it. I cut this one in 1/8th inch BB Birch and use a 3/0 spiral blade. I was so happy when I finished it and no broken pieces. The face area is made up of really small and intriquet lines that challenged me, but I did it and I feel pretty good about it. I just took the photo in a somewhat dim lighting so it came out a little fuzzy but I plan to post the finished piece when I get it finished. I plane on using a red back ground and I may try to make another frame for it, not sure about that, yet. Dick heppnerguy
  7. Hey Paul. I'd be there if I was asked.. and I would even bring my own puzzle so you wouldn't have to make one for me. Dick heppnerguy
  8. great pattern making. Your cutting skills made it so real. You must be proud of this wonderful piece, for sure Dick heppnerguy
  9. I hope you checked on things before you started helping yourself. Some times things are not always as they appear. I would not want to find out your got into trouble for something as innocent as this. But, if you did check with someone and I hope you did, you can always sell things on Craigs list for no cost. It sure is a good find though. I would imagine they must have left some good scrap wood behind too. ????? Dick heppnerguy
  10. Wayne beat me to it.. I was going to also tell you about Steve Good's puzzle patterns. I also made a puzzle cutout pattern once and made the lines very small and printed them out one the puzzle photo. the blade, though small, I think I used a puzzle blade, actually cut away the lines on the photo and were not seen when finished.. one has to stay right on the line for thiis to work though. I have to say, it did work for me Dick heppnerguy
  11. Well this way is brand new to dumb ole me, and I am so glad you posted it, Dave. I will definately give this a try very soon. I have had so much trouble doing this task. I will let you know how well it works for me.. Dick heppnerguy
  12. No it is just a regular Collie dog, like Lassie was...But thank you for your efforts. I do appreciate it. Dick heppnerguy
  13. I could not agree more....no tape on fret work...It will become your enemy quickly. Pattern directly on the wood and mineral spirits to remove...way faster....and no wood fiber torn out Dick heppnerguy
  14. Thanks Ron and Wayne, this helps a lot. It is not the one I had but might work anyway Dick heppnerguy
  15. Very nice signs.. You choose the perfect back ground color for them too. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Thanks, good information to know.. Dick heppnerguy
  17. somewhere I have a pattern of a Boarder Collie and for the life of me, I can not find it. Does anyone know where I might find one. The one I had was downloaded from a free pattern place. I was thinking it was from The Village, but I can not find it here. I appreciate any help you might be able to offer Dick heppnerguy
  18. I enjoy cutting thin ply but I cut two or three at a time. My favorite blade is. #2 O/R. I do not get any tear out on either top or bottom and I do not need to worry about a zero clearance when I do it that way. I find using a puzzle blade some times does not make a sharp corner very well and I have to wait for the blade to get lined up in the direction I am headed. Hope this helps some Dick heppnerguy
  19. That is a great pattern that will give a nice reward for your efforts. I made this box a couple of years ago and it was picked by the winner of a contest I had to get people to 'like' my page. I have been going to make another of these but just have not gotten around to doing it yet. You just might have enthused me to do so soon. Nice job on yours too. Oh, so glad you found the vibration problem with your saw Dick heppnerguy

Everyone is friendly and helpful here and if you give us a chance you will soon find out exactly what I am talking about.. HOW? All you need to do is log onto this site often and post comments and any question you may have or any advice to others that you might want to add and soon you will feel right at home with the regulars and feel like you have known us for years. 21. Welcome to The Village.. I hope that you do get the scroll saw going soon and you will find a lot of free patterns you can download and cut, should you choose. We like to see your work here, as part of getting to know each other is to share what we do with one another. If you find you have ANY questions do not hesitate to post the question. No question is a dumb question and a lot of us learn from other's questions and the answer they get. I have found that scrolling is not only fun and relaxing but is it a continual learning experience. So come in often and enjoy your stay. Oh, by the way, be sure and post remarks or compliments to any post that you might read and think you can contrbute a pat on the back when you see something that someone did that you might enjoy. I live in Eastern Oregon in a small town named Heppner and if you come to our area some time. Drop in and we can share some shop talk or something Dick heppnerguy
