  1. Those are great. Not only kids but adults too really like their names cut on wood. I am sure they were delighted to see them when they got them. Very nice thought and caring project here, Ralph Dick heppnerguy
  2. I took a look at Steve Good's page yesterday and saw that he had posted a pattern that really excited me and I knew I had to cut this one, right away. I believe it to be his best pattern ever.so off to the shop I went and cut the pedistal and the statue and today I cut and finished the rest of it. I did add a couple of things that I thought would make it an even better project, at least for me. I made a backer board for the statue and stained it black, I also stained the back part of the pedistal black because there were quite a few veining parts and I wanted all of it to stand out a little better. I cut the statue from Alder, the base was from a fairly large block of Mahogany which I had to resaw to 1 inch thick and then one piece of it to 1/4 in thick. I am in hopes that Steve will start making more patterns like this one of some of our nation's monuments as well as some international monuments. I did suggest that to him in an email. Now I wait and see if he does so Dick heppnerguy
  3. These are the 'other part of the globe' culture things that I love learning about. These little mice are cute critters and like Len said, keep sakes for the kids. Dick heppnerguy
  4. very well done truck. i bet these are a big hit with the adults as well as with the little crumb snatchers Dick heppnerguy
  5. Nicely done.. That should attract a lot of attention and comments Dick heppnerguy
  6. Boy does that stand out and grab your attention.I have to say that I would have never even thought to try something like that. Maybe that will become your signature pieces. very original and I like it Dick heppnerguy
  7. I, personally don't care for painting the subject wood because it IS WOOD. and because we are all into working toward making our plain wood turn into something of art and beauty and then painting it, gives it a look as like plastic. I am not trying to give you a put down because you did a very nice job with your work, I am just telling you how I see it in my eyes. So instead of painting your main piece, I would rather it was left in the 'wood' look and paint the backer board black instead. Then you have the contrast needed to make your piece stand out and it still looks like the wood that is really is. Dick heppnerguy
  8. Paul. You are so hard on yourself.. I guess it is the fact that you are a perfectionist. Everything you do it always perfect. Choosing to "always do it right", is a rewarding thing and I have to say that seeing your work has helped me to improve on my own mediocre things. Thank you for the wake up call for myself. That being said, I just wanted to show you how I handled this same wonderful pattern. I went a little out of the box and made mine to be a wall piece instead of a desk or shelf piece. I also put a blue sparkely background piece on mine. Unfortunately the sparkles did not show that well in the photo as it really makes the piece stand out, I think. since I took the picture, I have put on my finish and it came out looking pretty good. I madd this one from 1/8 bb ply and 1/4 inch backer board. Just a nother thought shouly you out of the regular wood you are using..Oh, that Alder I gave you make for really nice plaques too Dick heppnerguy
  9. I too like it...It does look a little busy to me and takes a little time to read it. I like all the little ornimental things in it too. Very nice pattern. I was thinking that if you made is a little larger and the letters a little bit bolder, perhaps it would be easier to read. Your pattern is really wonderful and so is your cutting.. Dick heppnerguy
  10. sometimes the use of a heat gun on the wood can help. I have done this and it has worked for me.. I am not sure about the proceedure but I believe that you heat the covects part and the makes it expand. maybe worth a try.. you don't want to hold the gun really close, hold it away a few inches and let it hear your board slowly and see it that helps. Dick heppnerguy
  11. not sure if this is close enough for you but this one is simply called stencil.. it prints black but i changed it with Inkscape to try and match wihat you are looking for. Dick heppneruguy
  12. ; I have looked everywhere and I can not find my pattern. I think I may have cut the only copy I had of it. I can't believe I did that. If I find it I will let you know the source. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Thanks for all the nice responses. I will be very happy when it is displayed at the craft show in November..I am anxious to see if it sells or not Dick heppnerguy
  14. thanks Kevin for the link. It is truly and interesting piece to read. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I have some small earth magnets in my shop that I used on a small fret heart that my wife had hanging on the wall and mentioned that she wished it was a frame. so I lued a couple of earth magnets on the back of the fet piece and put a photo .(cut to shape) and used other magnets to hold the photo in place. worked like a charm Dick heppnerguy
  16. I do things a little differently and I I would have no problem with doing what Tony is after and in a very short time. I used to spray paint my backer boards and then I usually found that the edges would not always get covered very well and I really did not like that.. Now, I never use rattle can paint on my backer boards but rather, Now I buy the blue mechanic's paper towel and cut each sheet in quarters. then i fold one of the quartered sheets again in half, twice, in effect I quarter it again. Now I dip a corner of it lightly into a pint size can of black paint and rub the edge of my backer board with the dipped rag. once the edges are done, I lay the backer baord on a rag and continue to cover it with my rag dipping it as needed. I rub the paint into the surface as if i was polishing it so that the paint is quite thin and even. This entire process takes about 2 minutes and dries quite quickly. it also is covered very evenly every where, including the edges. So it is cheeper, faster and i do not miss any places nor do i need to put on a second coat..Give it a try you may be pleasantly surprised. My last int lasted over a year and at the end it had little dried paint floating around that was not a problem even with that Dick heppnerguy
  17. I only heard about the small paint roller way of applying glue and I love it. No more glue oozing out from under the piece and exposing itself on the backer board. and everything gets the right amount of glue. I use the cloth rollers and wash them in the sink when i finish my glue ups.. I caught this trick somewhere during the answer session of a familiar question someone had posted awhile back. I love this forum. I am always learning something here Dick heppnerguy
  18. Kevin, Mail one to Dan. Simple solution.. No one need 7 extra caps on hand Dick heppnerguy
  19. The very reason I stayed away from the packing tape after the first time i tried it. No tape at all.. I can see no reason to use it any longer. Dick heppnerguy
  20. Sorry I posted this twice I could not figure out how to delete this, I tried several times..SOORY FOR THE BLUNDER HERE Dick heppnerguy
  21. I got this one all done and ready for the craft show. I have the colors done with felt and the frame is just another try as I make a continual effort to figure those out. I have to say that I am pleased with the final results. The photo did not bring the colors in it, out correctly, buy you get the idea Dick heppnerguy

  24. I am happy with my progress this year. I am feeling fairly comfortable with the spiral blade now and as i progress, I am also making more efforts with my frames and finishing so all that said, I think it is a pretty good year for me and my scrolling efforts Dick heppnerguy
  25. Very nice Rick. I like the piece very much. You deserve to be happy with this one. Who's pattern is this? I do not remember having seen it before Dick heppnerguy
