  1. Dave, I am amazed at hearing about your saw giving out on you. I had my first DeWalt for about 8 years and I too use my saw a lot. It finally started getting a little loud and the blade tension was deminishing. So I bought another one about a year ago. I have to say that I still prefer this saw because I find it very user friendly. I like the blade tension control, the ease of changing blades, the large table, and I plan to replace the bearings and any part I find that might need it. I also have a Hawk but prefer my DeWalt over it. There is not a saw out there that everyone loves. They are like cars or anything else. None are perfect. They are just machines. I hope you find one that you really like because I really want to continue to see your work posted here. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Welcome to The Village. If you take the time to check out all the different places on this sight, you will enjoy some of the many informative and free patterns. So go ahead and browse. Hope to see some posts by you showing us what sort of things you enjoy scrolling. Any questions about anything to do with scrolling and you will get answers very quickly. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I learned a lot from this post and I am going to try to find a place to buy some of it and give it a try. I love posts like this one about something unusual that is cut, either a new idea for a pattern or a material that most do not cut Dick heppnerguy
  4. This one should bring in some nice funds for you. Nice work and great display too Dick heppnerguy
  5. I was going to comment about not letting the chuck touch the paper pattern. I have had that happen a couple of times and that really sucks. I have learned, over time, that I can use a smaller bit than I thought I could and it is helpful to do that because it eliminates the tear out on the bottom of the board and eases the problem of drilling into cut line on very small fret pattern holes Dick heppnerguy
  6. I just might give this a try too. Nothing to lose to take a shot at it Dick heppnerguy
  7. I love it when a new scroller does an amazing job on a piece. For some it seems to come naturally for others it is a good lesson for me to continue to make the effort to try and always improve my own work Dick heppnerguy
  8. Donna, an extremely nice piece. I have yet to watch your video buy I will for certain, very soon. Your work is first class. You obviously have been at it for awhile and perfection is on the top of you list.. Good luck in the contest.. if you don't win, know you had to be up against some other fabulous wood workers... Dick heppnerguy
  9. make sure you continue to post your nice work. We love seeing what others are doing. Dick heppneruguy
  10. Christmas ornaments are fun to make and every one likes them.. You did some nice pieces Dick heppnerguy
  11. you might take it with you when you go camping and have some on hand. Might find some interested people there too Dick heppnerguy
  12. I do not believe that I have seen this pattern. It is a crisp, clean and very nice cut. It should be a dart players 'want' Dick heppnerguy
  13. I like this rendition of the Lord's plaque. I did one recently and understand a little about the time needed to finish these, I promise you will be getting a lot of 'likes' not only here but also from your family and guests, when they see it. Nice job Dick heppnerguy
  14. Marg, I thought the orange frame was good because it is a Halloween color, it seems. However, I was not happy with the lightness of the paint color but it was all I had. I did get in rather a hurry as i put on the final parts and even though I am trying to take more pride in my finishing of my pieces, I reverted to my old ways that I am trying to change. The frame was from a piece of ply i had laying around and was really too small for the cutting, but because of my rush finish, I decided to use it anyway, So most all of the comments of suggestive criticism is right on line as to what my final thoughts of this piece were also. I was attempting to make it a little more interesting but I know that rushing my project turned it all around for me too Dick heppnerguy
  15. Hey, that sounds like something, even I could do...thanks for the info Dick heppnerguy
  16. I agree with Ron Johnson. Practice, practice practice. The wood selection and blades are your two important selections to make. Your saw may take a while to get but with patience and practice all WILL come together for you. A little thicker wood sometimes will end up being your friend. Maybe like getting some old piece of furniture someone is getting rid of on Craigslist for free might be a good way to give this a try. Better than cheap plywood for sure Dick heppnerguy
  17. I have painted a few of my pieces but not with very good luck. I still think it is fun to try. If you don't try something new, you just stay in the same place. I can see it is once more worth all the efforts Dick heppnerguy
  18. Thanks for the report. It will be helpful to a few of us that might be deciding on a new saw in the future. Always good to hear personal comments like these to use as appraisals Dick heppnerguy
  19. Nice tribute. When anyone has a dedication like your friend, he is indeed someone to be proud of by everyone. He will cherish this fine piece from you. Dick heppnerguy
  20. Xa very interesting assortment of wood. The one on the far right is really nice. All the crosses are well done I was referring to the wood on that one. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Commendable indeed. Thanks for sharing them with us Dick heppnerguy
  22. Just shows, one does not need to invest a lot of money in wood in order to make something that is worth someone else's money to purchase. Nice choices on what to make with your purchase Dick heppnerguy
  23. I like your light box. I was considering doing my skull in that way but I am not sure how it is done. Might have to look it up on YouTube. Yours certainly looks like an extremely 'stand out' piece Dick heppnerguy
  24. I am amazed that you even get a pattern from the painting and stay with integrity of the artist. I understand what Len is saying here but considering the style of painting the artist used, making it by using 'straight lines' to bring out the gun in his hand, just is not a 'copy' of this painting. I find it an truly amazing effort and I applaud your efforts on this one. Dick heppnerguy
  25. Thanks for posting. I too will be checking out his cross patterns. I make quite a few crosses and I am always checking out patterns for ones I have not seen before. You did a really nice job on this tone too Dick heppnerguy
