  1. Sorry I can not help you with this one. Maybe next time DiCk heppnerguy
  2. Welcome Chris. Quite an achievement making a pattern from a piece of currency. I remember a long time ago when I made a drawing using the same subject of Lincoln off a 5 dollar bill. At the first of the year I vowed to make an effort to learn portrait but I have to say that I have not made the effort to do so yet. Maybe you will encourage me to get on the stick. That is what I enjoy most about this sight, everyone is continually encouraging one another and it only takes a short time to understand that you have a new family right here in cyber space Dick heppnerguy
  3. Welcome to The Village Tony. I hope you become relaxed here by logging on often and participating with posts and comments. I too would love to see a photo of your treadle scroll saws. Post some of your projects and comments when you are in The Village. Looking forward to getting to know you Dick heppnerguy
  4. Welcome I live in Oregon. You are lucky to be starting this new hobby with a very good quality saw. Most people start off with an inexpensive saw and a lot of hope to one day be able to some day own a good saw. If I were giving you any advice, as a beginner, it would be to not take on too difficult of a pattern to start out with. Do some easier patterns until you become familiar and comfortable with cutting sharp corners and staying on the line of the pattern. It does take a little time for most people to achieve this. Just don't let yourself get discouraged do to trying too tough of a pattern. Most of all, have fun and log on here often so you can get to know the regulars here and they, you Dick heppnerguy
  5. Sounds like a perfect trade. Glad you are getting your saw running again. Nice friend to have Dick heppnerguy
  6. Could maybe have a wire that is not fastened well or has come out of a holder keeping it in place and caused the wire to rub against a moving part and could have worn away a part of insulation on the wire causing it to short out. Just another idea to look for. A meter wil show if there is a short in any specific wire. Good luck Dick Heppnerguy
  7. Having pattern makers who are so generous with their patterns is so helpful to people like me that have very little creative ability. This is indeed a fun pattern, both to look at and also to cut. Nice job with this piece. It looks very Rea lipstick and seems to just jump out at you. The shadow photo is another splendid idea. 8. Funny, Kevin, I was thinking about putting an edge on it too but changed my mind. You are probably right Dick heppnerguy
  9. This morning I cut this pattern as a result of cutting a John Wayne patter made by Fish that I gave to my wife's hair dresser because she has so many Western movie stars pictures in her shop and I thought she would like something done a little different added to her display. As a result of the gift, I obtained two orders from the gift. And then yesterday my daughter told me that one of the ladies that purchased a John Wayne wanted me to make her a Sam Elliot For her, so I went back to The Village patterns and found a pattern posted by J Lawson. It worked perfectly so I cut it as well as the names for my daughter and her meat cutter this morning. Many thanks for the contributions of both pattern makers. I don't know what I would do if it were not for the talents and generosity of the wonderful pattern makers here on The Village Dick heppnerguy

  11. A nice box and could be a nice seller at craft shows, I would imagine. Your cutting is really good and the end results will make your wife proud to show off to her family and friends. Get busy, these will work well for Christmas presents for all the gals on your list Dick heppnerguy
  12. My daughter is a meat wrapper at our local grocery store and said that she would like to get her name as well as the meat cutter's name cut for them to put on the shelf between the shoppers case and the cutting room. An idea came to me as to a way to give the request a little more character and interest so I made this one for them. Dick H heppnerguy
  13. I really think that this pattern is an amazingly good one and certainly did a perfect job cutting it. The quote idea is perfect for this piece. Dick heppnerguy
  14. An interesting pattern. I have not seen this one before. Looks like it could be quite handy and you have done a great job making this one. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I hope you find the time to log on often as this habit is important to be able to get to know the regulars and for them to learn to know you too. Share your thoughts, projects and knowledge whenever you have the opportunity to do so. Before you know it you will understand that you have another friendly family here that you did know you had before Dick heppnerguy
  16. I could never move my saw I the house. I am way too much of a slob for that. But I just might keep my eye open for a used air conditioner for my shop and be ready for next year. This has been the most consistent high temperature and driest temperature on record for us. Right now it is 106.3 out side here. No relief for the rest of the week. We have not had any measurable rain for over two months. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Paul, Where is that new wood shop where you have found the good wood supply. I would like to check it out if it is not too far out of my way Dick heppnetguy
  18. As I have stated before, I used the painters tape and a glue stick for years and I swore by it UNTIL I tried just spraying my patterns and putting directly on the wood. After I finish cutting out my pattern , I simply brush on paint thinner or mineral spirits and wait about 15 seconds and the pattern almost falls off on it's own, leaving what looks like a paper cut pattern. All in one piece. After I remove the pattern I run my finger over the wood, if there is any feel of residue on the wood, I dampen a cloth and run it over the wood , removing any residue that May be left behind. I find that any residue that gets left behind happens when I get in a hurry and try to remove the patter without waiting or if I have sprayed my pattern with an over needed amount of glue. The good thing is I never need to peel those numerous tiny pieces of painters tape from a fret work piece that has several hundred holes in it. It also does not have those tiny slivers of wood coming off any longer. I buy my spray glue at Harbor Freight because they have a good brand at a really good price. Under ?$10 and the size is double others I see on the market. The brand is CRC. If you are not familiar with the company, let me tell you they have been around for a long time and I have been using their products since 1978. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I use a stiff. Brush to remove my fuzzier. A hint someone posted a while back. It was a tip from his granddaughter. Fuzzier are a real pain but the good part about fuzzies is they are only there after you have cut a new pattern and now you are starting the finishing part of it. Dick Heppnerguy
  20. I agree with Kevin. I too need to take my saw apart and do this but I also hate down time even though it really only takes a couple of hours so no real excuse here Dick heppnerguy
  21. I am already looking for your new posts to see what new and exciting piece of work you are going to be posting next Dick heppnerguy
  22. Striking piece. You made it almost come alive Dick heppnerguy
  23. Nicely done and very creative. You definitely get a gold star on this one too Dick heppnerguy
  24. I made one of those new baby stars for a niece recently. I liked them because it is a great idea that is still fairly new out there and they are not very difficult to make but they also stand out very nicely on the wall. Good job I think it will be around for a long time after both of us are long gone Dick heppnerguy
  25. Nifty looking signs. I like them a lot. They look really nice Dick heppnerguy
