  1. Anita, you already know all about this world wide family that you decided to expose your true self to. And of course you already know everyone is friendly and everyone is glad that you decided to become your own family member and not just a one in the background person. I have tried to get my wife to help me in the shop but I guess I may have been a little too critical of her in the past so to get her into it, I need to move forward very carefully. Glad you are one of us officially now. That means you get to pick on your husband on line like the rest of us do LOL Dick heppnerguy
  2. Victor, Do you cut patterns with a lot of all fret work? It seems all the areas in between the numerous fret cuts would make getting the traps off the wood a real chore Dick heppmergiy
  3. Well I have to say I that the photo was a little difficult to see until I made it bigger then itcswed to show up just fine. I love it when someone comes up with a different twist on things. I like your idea a lot Dick heppnerguy
  4. I have been pretty lucky. Not much breakage but I too get in a hurry when I am but a few cuts from the finished product. I am so ready to finish another on the I get too hasty. " only 5 more cuts" I remember when I was putting together the last part oft Eiffel Tower ply to discover I had glued it wrong and it was not square. That one took a few days and I really did not want to start over again or maybe never cut another. Well I cut a new one and then I even made another. Hard to deal with but another lesson learned. 5. Copyrights are a little difficult to understand and if you make, say a Disney character and you are proud of how well you did with it, it is difficult to have your post deleted by our family leader here but I thank Travis for the work he does here and the protection he is assuring us of even without our full understanding. Thank you Travis for doing all the extra work that a lot of us do not even know we need. Dick heppnerguy
  6. I do not mind waiting for the paint thinner to dry as I know I have done the hard and tedious part almost effortlessly. Dick heppnerguy
  7. You are right, it does require a little time to dry after removing the ops treen but because I am not spending a lot of time removing the painters tape from my fret work any longer so I do not mind waiting a little while to let the paint thinner to dry before I apply my chosen finish Dick heppnerguy
  8. Ditto. With what everyone says. The most important thing is that you still have a working finger. Glad that worked out well. I too cut all the fingers on my left hand but only ended up losing the last joint on my index finger. Happy you can continue to scroll and share your wonderful work with all of us. Dick heppnerguy
  9. Ike, glad you were able to find the pattern you where after. I have to agree with you about our Village Family, there is always someone that knows the answer to any question. And they are all willing to help if they can. Thanks to everyone that responded to Ike's quest. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Very nicely done. You can hang one of those in your own home and sit back and enjoy for a long time to come Dick Heppnerguy
  11. I know that Father's Day is celebrated at different times around the world but today is Father's Day in America so I am just saying to all the fathers in our world wide family HAPPY FATHER'S DAY Dick heppnerguy
  12. Paul, you should know mea little better by now and understand that my memory fails me way too often. Like the name of your last scrolled piece and mixing up Roly and Sully. Heck that is the very reason that Saron makes me carry my wallet, not because it has any money in it, but rather because it has my dirivers license in it with my photo and name! that way I won't have to try to remember my name if I get lost LOL I know that this pattern cutting is not the only one or even the best one for everyone. I was just sharing why I prefer it and also a reminder to everyone that there just may be a better way or a different way to do something and for me to take that leap into something new turned out to be good for me. I think I have only burned an item with a blade, one time. That was when I tried some packaging tape but really did not like that much so I gave that idea up. Maybe I did not give it enough of a chance and if I do discover that I come upon a problem like this again, I may try it again. I also enjoy the way I am doing my pattern now is because it really does not require me to purchase anything extra. I keep paint thinner on hand anyway and it takes only a very small amount to do the job here. I want everyone to know that the one thing I learned by changing to this method is that I need to stay open to trying new things at all times. I hope that this post encourages others to share their ideas with others here. You may be alone with your idea but more likely you may discover that there are many others that share your way or ideas

Keep on sharing and keep understanding that everyone has an idea or method or blade that works best for them. I was just sharing what I have found works best for me, at this time. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Larry, I have used additional packing tape when I first started cutting but I found that It would sometimes college sawdust. So I have never gone back to it.. Never really felt a need to either Dick heppnerguy
  15. I have stayed away from puzzle making because I do not like the idea of using a piece of my wood to paste on a puzzle pattern and then have to stack it on top of the photo I am going to cut. I did choose to free hand cut some puzzles but overall I just stopped cutting them. The last week a thought came to me. I once tried to put the puzzle pattern directly on the photo but I really did not like that because the puzzle pattern was too wide and it showed in the lighter colored areas of my puzzle. Then all of a sudden it came to me. What if I use Inkscape and make a puzzle pattern but reduce the size of the lines? so I gave it a try and it worked perfectly. I will add my puzzle pattern here along with instruction on how to use it. I hope it world for you, give it a try and see.. instructions. open Inkscape and import the my pattern..then import the photo you want to use to cut into a pattern. after changing the inkscape to the format you want: such as inches and 81/2 X 11 paper. ( this depends on what country you are in )....then simply put your photo into the small box in the center of the screen and make it whatever size you desire.. Next select the puzzle pattern and drag it over the photo, ( be sure you select the puzzle pattern to be the top layer ) make the puzzle pattern the exact size of your photo and then select and combine both of them, making them now one item. When you print it out you will have the puzzle pattern printed on the photo but the puzzle pattern is smaller than your blade and it will disappear as you cut it. I used a number 2 double tooth blade to cut my puzzle. If you have any questions, just PM me and I will respond with an answer for you Dick heppnerguy
  16. Hi everyone. I remember, once more reading here about the best way to attach a pattern to be cut. If you happen to see my post there, you might remember that I stated I was once a painter's tape and glue stick kind of guy, and stated that I am very slow to try something different when I like what is working for me. Then, on day, I decided to try the spray a pattern and put it directly onto the wood. I found three things that I really did not expect to happen when I did this. First of all, the pattern did not come loose from the wood at any time and I was cutting a piece of fret work that had a lot of small holes and I had been having problems with the pattern coming loose in places when I was in the middle of cutting them, with this method I have not had that problem Second, When I was finished cutting the piece and it was time to remove the pattern from the wood. I got a small sponge rubber brush and used it to apply a light coating of paint thinner directly to the face of the pattern. I waited about 20 seconds and then I got started to see if I could peel off my pattern. well as I began to remove it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that is almost fell off the wood by itself. The complete and whole pattern was unattached in less than a minute third. Now to see about getting rid of all that residue that I suspected would be left behind. The only place that I encountered any residue was where I had used some tape to combine two parts of the pattern together and the paint thinner could not get through it to the glue. I have found if I try to remove the pattern too soon, the paint thinner has not had time to finish it's work of resolving the glue, this may leave a little residue behind. I simple use a clean cloth and wipe my pattern as soon as i remove it and then if there is any residue left, the little bit of paint thinner that is on the wood is enough to remove any left behind. Today I cut a pattern using the above mentioned technique and decide to show you how the pattern is removed in it's entirety. Keep in mind you are not looking at the finished cut piece but just the paper pattern that I removed when I was finished cutting out my piece. You can see the pattern maker's name on the paper pattern I also remember how Paul, talked about taking 2 1/2 hours to remove the painters tape from his howling wolf, I believe it was. With this method I can accomplish the same thing Paul was trying to do, but in less than a minute Dick heppnerguy
  17. Lilly, I too want to Chime in and welcome you to our big world wide family. If you choose to stick around and let us get know you, soon you will understand that we are indeed one big, happy and friendly family here and we all hope that you too will be a big part of it with us. Criticism is not a word in our vocabulary but help, praise and sharing all are. So check out all the nooks a crannies her and have fun Dick heppnerguy
  18. Sorry about the mistake. I was hoping I remembered the correct person here. But as is usually the case, I once more screwed that up too. Come to think about it, I too do not remember seeing Sully around The Village of late. I hope he is doing fine Again if I remember correctly he had some health issues that was giving him a bad time for awhile. Dick heppnerguy
  19. I want to thank everyone for the nice compliments on my clock. Amazingly, to me the pattern only costs $3.95 and it is a free download so you get it in about one minute. It is a rather large download with several pages and is complete step by step instructions. My other clock that I made my wive iin February is the same cost and is also complete with step by step instructions Dick heppnerguy
  20. Roly, It looks like the craft shows are on your mind again this year. You always come up with a nice variety of things for you booth. Are you going to have the bee traps again this year in your booth? Dick heppnerguy
  21. I too am not an expert but rather a slow learning crafts person, however I do have an opinion on your new pieces , that being. There are really well done and I hope you stack cut those because I have a sneaking suspicion that you will have several people after those Dick heppnerguy
  22. I plan on using one of your great labels on this one. I know I have not sent you an order for more labels yet but you will be hearing from me soon Dick heppnerguy
  23. I finally finished the clock I am going to be giving my granddaughter when she gets married the first of August. It took me some time to make as I was gone a lot from home and also busy with other projects at the same time. I hope they like it. Now to get it to Portland, safely. I was carrying it into my shop and missed the bottom stair, with the clock in my hands. I was so glad that I did not fall with it. I do not wish to have to make it over again. Unlike my the clock I made for my wife in February, I was able to get some contrast in this one and some protective finish on it. Dick heppnerguy
  24. Putting out the merchandise for sure. Fun pieces. Nice cuts Dick heppnerguy
