  1. I have to say that i have been using Rapid Resizer for a year now and I have found it to work very well. The one thing I do know is if you have any questions about using this program and email the owner with any question, he will answer your question and converse with you until you are completely satisfied, He is always updating his program and adding new things..one thing I like about it, is he is open for his users input and works to include their input suggestions..He even will email you to make certain what you wish to have within the program. the owner is a lot like our own Travis....
  2. A nice idea I will not be using the ornament e book as I already have all of my Christmas gifts going full bore and I will not have any time to make any additional things...but I will be donating money to the Catholic Relief Charities to aid the people on the East Coast struggling to get back on their feet after the big storm.... Way to go, Travis..makes me glad i am part of the Scroll Saw Village..
  3. Don, Good job on your sleigh project. I love your idea a lot and hope to make some next year too if I don't forget them by then. I have several intarsia items started and need to get back into the shop as soon as I can. Got the flu right after Thanksgiving and don't feel up to scrolling yet.
  4. Kev, The biggest advice that I would give to a new scroller is to buy the right saw blades...you can purchase them on line..make sure you have # 7 or smaller..Most people on this sight are way more experienced than I am but, when I discovered the correct saw blades my sawing experience instantly became easier and more fun.. Good luck.....keep in touch
  5. my suggestions to you, (these are the ones that I discovered, that helped me the most) first of all....if yoiu have not already done so...purchase some blades on line, as most home improvement stores don't really carry what you need to do things easily....I would suggest number 5 and number 2 to start with....go slowly and practice a lot..I started by cutting names to see if I could even do this scrolling thing...start with simple patterns and challenge yourself as you go...don't get defeated...there are many people on Scroll Saw Village that want to see you succeed. If you need help anywhere....ASK..you will get the help you need...good scrolling
  6. I have found that stack cutting these when using 1/8 inch BB also makes them much easier to cut. what I have not tried yet and will try soon, is zero clearance on my saw..I think that will help a lot too...
  7. Jim...I am fairly new at scrolling, still into my first year...I agree with Kevin...you need to keep at it..I find when I am away from my saw, even for a couple of weeks, I need a few cuts to get back into the swing of things..glad to see you logged on here...there are a lot of great people here who love to help with anything from patterns to helping with any problems or questions you might have about scrolling or intarsia....come back often..you could be of help to someone else....
  8. I am so excited to welcome you to Scroll Saw Village...I too was into building some furniture but I moved to another city and no longer had my large wood shop and also because of the high cost of materials, decided to try something a little different...so I took up intarsia and enjoyed that for about 3 years or so...I never really liked much of the scroll items that I had seen but I wanted a change so I looked up some scroll saw web pages and discovered that scroll was much more than extremely hard fret work or too simple silhouette items that i did not care to make.. I discovered some nice patterns that appealed to me and I tried one and I have been doing scrolling for almost a year now and enjoy it more than I probably should allow myself to do...hope to see you on Scroll Saw Village often
  9. Hi Louis, Glad to see that you found this sight..It has a lot to offer it's members...We are always looking at each others projects as we share with one another pictures, patterns, and suggestions and questions..Hope you take the time to return here often and get acquainted. I, personally am interested in seeing what the European people are scrolling....I hope you post some of your work here...do you have favorite scroll saw web sights in Italy that you might be willing to share with us? I would love to browse them and see what new things I might find on them...
  10. very nice Pete...I really like this horse....Is this pattern for sale...I would love to have it for myself
  11. When I discovered blades other than from Lowes or Home Depoe..my saw and myself started performing like a song. You can not get small enough blades in the stores, like mentioned above. as soon as you start using the Olson blades, you will find that you will be amazed as to what you are able to do with them that you had difficulty trying to do before...Look up Mikes workshop on the internet and do yourself a favor...buy and try..you will never be sorry you did.
  12. nice job, Marv...I like it a lot...I made a marine plaque for a friend in Afghanistan. I should probably post a picture of it too...I was very happy with my results too..keep posting, I would like to see more of your work.
  13. good tip, Beeber.....I will give that a try...can't hurt anything...I have to say that I am not completely happy with the tension I am achieving but at least I can get back to cutting again.
  14. Hello Ron, I started scrolling last March so I am pushing one year at this wonderful new love of mine. I would suggest that you start with something easy..I started with scrolling names...then some simple cutouts. Next I tried making some wooden baskets and I have not looked back since. I have made over 100 things now and I love giving them away. portrait cutting is my real goal and I have completed one, the results of which I was pretty happy with.. good luck and don't forget to ask any questions or concerns you may have. the scrollers on this web sight delight in helping others and sharing their ideas and skills with all who want to partake...
  15. Hi Jim....I have been doing intarsia and I wanted to try scrolling just for a change..I started scrolling because I also wanted to do something that I can finish in a day or less, for the most part. I started scrolling in March of last year. I decided to try to do some simple thing like names...I could not believe how many people loved having their names cut in wood...I continued to push my skills, once I realized that I was capable of doing fret work. I have made many pieces for friends and family.I hope you give the fret work a shot, because as for me it is many hours of a new found love...good luck on your endeavors and remember that there are a lot of people here that are very willing to help or answer any questions you may have....One thing that I have discovered is scrolling seems to be easiest when you use hard woods and stay away from the softer ones, like cedar, which I like to use for intarsia....
  16. I decided this year to cut some tree ornaments and I decided to stack cut them and them put them on the Christmas packages so everyone with a gift would receive one..that way if they really did not like them they could just throw them away with the wrapping paper and no one would even know..To my real surprise everyone seemed excited to have them and expressed that they would like to have a collection of them for their tree..I guess what I learned here is......I get to have fun and the people I give them to..think I am a talented person, and generous too. I do not feel that what I do on the scroll saw is talent, but rather a little exercise in patience and fun..I like your tree idea....I also gave my Sunday School kids scroll work as rewards for their attendance..
  17. Hi Matthew....I have been scrolling for about 9 months and like it more than almost anything else I do..I have found that the people on this web sight are very fun people and very willing to help each other and share ideas and patterns with those who seek them. Welcome to our community....stay in close contact here and visit often..you will shortly become familiar with those who participate here..hope you post some pictures of some of your work here.
  18. Thanks to WolfmoonCT and Mick and qlty fro responding to my help request...I got a good education on the suggested web sight....I decided that I would also try the above suggestion about the slipping blade holders, even though I felt sure that was not happening..I scuffed them up and re-centered them in their holding screw and BINGO, I got enough tension that I was happily scrolling away this afternoon and made my bride a Valentines gift. I had to eat some crow, but I am happy that I listened to your advice and challenged what I thought I already knew..
  19. I went to the web sight that Mick suggested and I found a lot of really good information, including the tip from Wolfmoon and I am going to try some of them....I do not pretend or imply that I know everything about this saw, but I found out there is a lot more that I do not know than I thought I understood at the beginning of my first post...thanks again guys for your help. A wonderful group of people here
  20. I am sure that my blades are not slipping...my quess at this time might be that the part inside the saw, that slides forward because of the action of the tension rod, my be worn a little...or perhaps the tension selector or the bushing might be worn some...not sure..anyone else experienced those problems..I have torn my saw apart 4 times trying to figure this out.....thanks for the suggests...I will take a further look at the suggested possibilities just to make sure though...thanks for your help so far......will let you know if that helps..or solves my problems.
  21. I was on this sight several months ago and could not get logged in again...I re-joined and now I am much more active here......I think one of the important things here is to become active and then you will start to learn a lot from other members that will help you i your quest to be an even better scroller and also you will probably get to meet a lot of people that love to help others and you are able to see their work too...so with that said....I wish to also welcome you to Scroll Saw Village.....I live in a small Eastern Oregon town of Heppner.
  22. thanks for the replies.....I love this web page....the people are so friendly and I like that there is so many people from all over the world....I do love scrolling a lot...it gives me much pleasure to make things for people that they like almost as much as I like making them....I did not like my grandson's portrait and will try to make another one...I decided to try some of the ones that have been done on this sight and compare with the finished ones so I can try to find some better ways to do mine....if that makes any sense....
  23. all of a sudden I can not get the desired tension on my saw blades.. I disassembled my saw and everything seemed to be working just fine...I lubed the sliding mechanism in the rear of the saw the makes the adjustment..everything appears to be functioning but still, I can not get the proper tension....I reassembled the saw and I am looking for some suggestions...anyone out there, that might have a suggestion for me??
  24. Interesting idea....truly a fun project Nice job Heppnerguy
  25. I just scrolled a 24 inch peacock with a lot of holes to cut..It was a little challenging as I ran out of space to turn my piece for cutting...you must have had some challenges with that one too.....It looks nice... Heppnerguy
