  1. There is something therapeutic in breaking down, replacing broken/worn parts and re-assembling machinery. This is accompanied by an overwhelming sense of achievement and the knowledge of a job well done. I wouls always go for this option if I could. IMHO
  2. Saw set up on stand and ready to go. The helpers came on Wednesday afternoon and unboxed the saw then bolted it to the frame. It is an excellent height (adjustable) and I find it easy to load and change blades. It will be a real boost to the scrolling fretwork pieces and internal cuts. Haven't got Henry (the vacuum cleaner) set up yet but we are getting there (very slowly).
  3. I have had great success with the Alex Fox patterns. Straight (vertical) cuts and all cut from a piece of 1/4" plywood. I would recommend.
  4. O YE of little faith. I managed 2 pics and only one was good. I still have the machine sitting in the box waiting on some help to get it out and onto the stand which I have in the second picture which I can't really make out what it is so I suspect you will not be able to see what it is either. It is the stand and I am levelling off the feet for stability. That should help the NPNH crew lol
  5. Well made pieces, haven't got that far in the book yet as most of the pieces I have done disappear into the toy box before they get painted etc.
  6. Hi All, I would just like to say my new Axminster 535SS Scroll Saw arrived yesterday along with the stand (and a free pack of various Pegas blades). Instructions for assembling the stand are pretty pathetic and I will need some time to fathom it out but there's no rush. I will need a couple of helpers to unbox and fit up the saw s it weighs in at 28 kilos. I will need to re-organise the workshop a bit so it may be a while before it is up and running. Just thought I would have a brag about my good fortune and good luck to all my fellow members on here who need it. take care and stay safe.
  7. Wow. A great result with both pieces I think. Very well done and a great explanation as well.
  8. Very well done. A great start.
  9. Too true. I have lost the top of a finger through wearing a glove while sanding on a lathe.
  10. Looks very natural. Well done with the cutting and finishing.
  11. Lots of good work there.Well done.
  12. Awesome work as usual, thanks for this Frank.
  13. Thanks for that, yes it is the book I used. I have another couple of pieces I would like to try and am just looking for some suitable wood. It seems to be a quite popular book.
  14. I think I got the pattern in a book that is in the 'Mens Shed' that I attend. I will check when I am next down there. I am sure there must be a couple of these designs around as I have seen some similar pieces although they may not have been jigsaws and just an eagle and fish in segmentation.
  15. I have almost completed this jigsaw pattern, just a couple of coats of wax still to do. The Eagle is on vertical grain Sapele and the fish is on cross grain, both pieces of wood were 3/4" thick and I used Pegas Modified Geometry #1, #3 and #7. Turned out OK but I know what I need to do next time to make me happier with it.
  16. Thanks for your input Scrollshrimp. I will wait until later in the year to see what Axi can come up with, hopefully they can get the foot pedal system sorted out. At present I have a foot pedal pedal fitted to the machines I use at home and in the 'Men's Shed' and would like to keep using a foot pedal.
  17. UNDOUBTEDLY. Any excuse for more profits.
  18. I have had a look at buying a machine from Pegas in Italy but at around the same prices as the Axminster and the more local support from Axi I think I will wait and see what happens in a couple of months.
  19. I'm back after a talk with Axminster Tools. The salesman there said that the next lot of machines MAY be fitted with a foot switch as the regulations are due to get changed. It could be 2 months before this happens so there is no rush. I would buy a machine form the USA but I don't see any stockists here and Customs and Excise in the UK would probably treat me as a terrorist for importing a machine/machinery that could be used to make things ?? Why is it so hard to get a machine from anywhere. ???
  20. I should have said that I use a scroll saw that I purchased from Lidl some 10 years ago. It cost around £50 then and I don't think they are much dearer now. I have fitted a foot switch to it (after the NVR switch and the machine works quite well after that time.) I have fitted an aquarium pump to it also as the rubber bellows was always failing and am quite happy but may have the chance to buy the much bigger Axminster machine. Thanks for the replies chaps.
  21. Hi All, (but especially UK members), I have been looking at the AP 535 SS scroll saw from Axminster with the base stand and would like to know if anyone has any experience of these machines. At almost £1000 I would like to know what problems I may meet with this machine before spending that amount of cash. It LOOKS like a simple ON/OFF switch on this machine so I reckon I should be able to fit a foot pedal between the wall socket and the saw. I don't really know, that was why I am asking if anyone has any experience with these machines. Thanks for looking, take care and stay safe Don W
  22. Very slowly MarieC. The frustration is the worst thing I think. It feels like so much to do and so little time ....... EDIT Hi Gene Howe, slowly improving with the emphasis on slowly.
  23. At 84 I seem to be an old guy here. They only thing that stopped me is this pesky stroke but I will beat it. EDIT I am only 83, I don't turn 84 until December whoopee !!!
  24. +1 for this advice. You will get there. Some of us take a little longer than others but each to their own. You will get there.
  25. I hope you have a very successful day.
