  1. I started with a Dremel scroll saw. Was given a Type 1 788. What a difference. The motor fried. I was able to buy an Ex-21. Holy crap, what an even bigger difference between the 788 and EX. I was able to rebuild my 788. I used that as a backup. Nope, didn't like it anymore. Not even as a back up. No comparison. Someone here on this forum posted a craigslist ad for an EX-21 in my area. I jumped at it. These things are as smooth as 18 year old Glenlivet. (makes me have a hankering for a shot) I guess my point is, Ford, Chevy, Dodge. We all have our preferences. Bummer that the Hawk didn't work for you Iggy.

I like them both. Is the Corgi pattern yours?
  3. Not to mention, adding a dab, and just a dab, of Vaseline (or similar) to where the white tensioning lever meets the aluminum. When I bought both of my EX's, there was a dab of white grease there. Every so often, I'll clean that area and add clean Vaseline . I like Scrappiles suggestion of cleaning and anti-seizing the threads.
  4. Never thought of using hot glue gun. I'll have to try it. I usually just use small brads.
  5. My nephew turned me onto that tidbit awhile back. Works great. Does an even better job on the lathe.
  6. Very cool. I'm with Penguin. Put four hangers on it and rotate it every so often. That'll really blow people's minds
  7. I couldn't agree more.
  8. Two books you might want to look into to help you. Scroll Saw Workbook by John A Nelson. And/or, Big Book is Scroll Saw Woodworking by Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine. (Said magazine is pretty good too. Actually damn good in my opinion). Both of those books may help you get started.
  9. Makes me feel "comfortably numb". Sorry, couldn't resist. One of the best bands of all time. Great job and welcome to the village.
  10. Very nice clock Dave. What a neat idea.
  11. That is awesome! Gotta put that on the to do list. (Even though I'm a Packer fan. Big smile)
  12. Wow! Nice work Scrappile ! I agree with Trackman, in that letters are not forgiving.
  13. I agree with shellac. Spray shellac works real well. Although it can darken or yellow your project. spray lacquer works well also. Both the shellac and lacquer are low odor and quick drying.
  14. I really like this. And, like Dave M said, a fun learning tool.
  15. If using BB plywood, I spray 3M 77 on pattern and attach pattern directly to BB. Then I top it with packing tape. All other woods I put blue painters tape on wood, spray the 77 on the pattern, attach pattern to blue tape, and skip the packing tape I do not like to put painters tape on directly on BB, seems to pull up the fibers. Packing tape seems to give off a glare, so I'm not a fan of it.
  16. Yes, you should be fine. (20 plus years as a machinist)
  17. Impressive! Nice work
  18. Very cool. I'm gonna have to look away now. I can feel the spell of Iggy and his puzzles coming over me
  19. Very pretty!
  20. I use a Fein vac. Like the Festool, a bit spendy. But worth every penny. Very quiet and does a great job at dust collection. I do use it only on me scroll saw.
  21. It IS in MINT condition. e-mailed back and forth with the Dude a few times. Finally, this morning, we talked on the phone. He explained why he was selling it and that they used it about 10-15 times. I asked him if he was firm on the price and he said, "no, why don't you make me an offer". So I did, and he accepted. I told him I live an hour and a half away, and I'll come look at it and if it's in good shape I'll buy it. Holy crap! The table top doesn't have nary a scratch on it. No sawdust to speak of in the nooks and crannies, and it purrs like a kitten, the nickel didn't budge. I bet it doesn't have five hours on it. He showed me the receipt and it was dated 2/7/17. Now I have two EX-21's. One for the basement when it's cold outside, and one for the garage when it's nice out. A special thanks to Bruce for posting it
  22. I agree, and take it one step further. Each time I use Super 77 I take the nozel'off and put in a small container of mineral spirits. If I were to invert the can can and clear the nozel off each time I would run out of propellant before I ran out of gas. 15 minutes of soaking will do the trick. Not a fan of glue sticks.
  23. I thought there were quite a few good articles, the chess set, the Reuleaux bowl, and the barn swallow intarsia. One medium, three different ways of using that medium. They look challenging and pique my interest.
  24. That is really cool. To me, he looks like he just got the news that the Circus is closing.
