  1. Don't know what effect you were trying to achieve, but like some others, my first thought was, wow, scrolled in a beautiful piece of leather! I agree with most of what Frank says but with this piece, in my opinion the leather look fit great! Nice job.
  2. He uses LaCrosse balls,,, and yep pour old Ali has been neutered. I go him at 14 months old... I got him from a young Chinese couple that had to find him a new home, the mother and number 2 son were allergic to him.. we have had Ali for over three years. They still keep in touch with us. On Ali papers his name is "Sparky'. Not a name for a lab.. they said it Chinese Sparky would be Ali.. Ali made a better name, so that is what he goes by. This couple, Chinese Americans.. their sons first names are Walter and Forest... how is that for Chinese names.. They are really a great family.
  3. Been gone for sometime, having to readjust my life to the trials and tribulations of getting old... There are no "Golden Years" brothers and sisters, there is just "getting old, body wearing out" years... I have had to make some adjustments, but I am getting it figured out and am getting a chance to to spend some time in the shop..I really have not left the forum, I have just been present as a by-stander.. Got to say people, you have raised the scrolling bar. I see things being crafted that we did not use to do, well not much anyway... The addition of color in scrolled pieces is getting a lot more attention.. I see some really unique and beautiful productions... Kevin is back! That really had me worried.. So glad you are okay Kevin.. Scroll Saw Village would be less without you here. Over the past few weeks I have worked on a coupe things. Got to say if I had to pick a pattern of the year, for me it may be @FrankEV 's "Trees of Green". That is one of my favorite song, always lifts me up when I am somewhat down... The song has been going through my head every since he posted it.. Thought if I cut it, it would get out of my head, but it has not. So I cut it, but with a little modification.. I wanted to see some real rose looking flowers in it, after all it speaks of "red roses too". So I found some rose silhouette pictures and added them... Not real satisfied with it but am going to try some more. The four bottom black blobs were suppose to be silhouettes of rose bud... I will look further. Also I broke our three or four pieces after I finished cutting it. Got them glue back in, but it is far from good. Bad thing I cut it in a great piece of wood... but it is only wood.. this was trial one. The finished product I intend to add some color.. One thing that is an added bonus to Frank's pattern,,, If you cut the tree as one piece you get this neat little tree, to do something else with! The second thing I have recently built, this weekend in fact was just a fun project to help me keep my dogs balls in a good place. I made this ball dispenser. He is pretty happy with it, but he is pretty fussy about his balls, and was somewhat miffed that I screwed up a little on gluing the last "S" on the front.. So there it is.. Missed participating in this forum. I will be here when I can..
  4. Hey all. Thanks for the thoughts. I am Okay. But very busy... Around Dec, 1st I had a second stroke. But I am still up right and functioning. I don't have alot of time here, because my wife also ended up in the hospital again with breathing problems... So now she is tethered to an oxygen machine all the time. So she can only go around 50 feet... And I do most the cleaning, washing and cooking now. keeps me busy.. When we do go together we are on a timer, her little carry machine runs about 4 hours on a battery. It is a good timer, that is really all the longer she has the stamina for.. I always take an extra battery and an oxygen take, for just incase we get delayed. So this is our life now... Not complaining, we have had good lives and it is our time to slow down now. She can still do a little quilting and I'm getting proficient enough at my chores that I am getting a little time in the shop again... In fact I did finish one project I started some time ago. I had it all cit out, just need finishing... It is called the Blois Goblet, a Finescrollsaw pattern. And I am doing a little work on my Woozle Bird..
  5. Might do a search on Asian picture frames... to get some ideas, I always struggle with the same question and usually my "cheapness" wins and I go with narrower, get more out of a piece of wood..
  6. Very well done... !
  7. That looks pretty confy!
  8. One of my most remembered teachers was my wood working teacher... Everytime I get to enjoy the hobby, I think of him. I am sure there are many students that have the same thoughts about you.... I think doing away with "Shop" classes is a great disservice to the young kids of today...
  9. Very very nice! I have made a couple of nativities. was going to do one a year, but haven't got it done this year... one of the local churches has a nativity day, were people display their nativities.... Haven't got to it yet... I guess there are some beautiful ones displayed..
  10. Did you make the spoked wheels also? that is a beautiful model..... very tempting..
  11. Outstanding.. Hope you took some pictures,, I would love to see some.. I can't help but believe with a little pr and campaining,,, you would get Wen of some similar company to donate s few saws... after all you are creating future customers for them and it would give them great publicity... What a great feeling this must have given you.. Good for you...
  12. When you are using tht quick clamp the top clamp needs tog to jeld tight in the clip
  13. Well done @kmmcrafts, you know your stuff.. I would respond to some in Hegner's defense but just too darn tired right now from getting ready for the Holiday... And I may not respond to them.. I have learned on here, no matter what is said for or against a product,,, the person has usually already made up their mind and ordered what they were asking about.. Not saying that about this thread... just saying as a norm....and,, I am not big on telling someone which to buy... most of it is personal preference, anyway... I do not say any is best... I love my Hegner, but have not tried a Hawk... and besides I am just a grouchy old scroller anyway so my thoughts don't really mean much or even last more than a second in my head....!!
  14. Ray, I can not answer about the bellows.. unless it is an age issue or Germans may not know how to make good rubber... I do not know where Hawk originated,,, I think America... Whoops,, another reason for Americans to buy Hawk over Hegner I guess...
  15. Ha,,, "cheap plastic/rubber bellows is like $45". that is not cheap to me! But you could look at it this way, my Hegner is 11 years old,,, been rode hard and put away wet, but the bellow still looks fine... So if I get a few more year out of the bellows, say, 3, just to stay with even numbers....... 14 years (get it?, even numbers), that is only $3.21 a year. Now figure that with repairs on other cheaper saws that may not and probably will not last the long, with as much use, needing major repairs or replaced... I will keep my Hegner.. Hawk probably averages out about the same,, I do no know.. Really, to me the major differences are simple preferences.. The Hegner will not top feed.. the Hawk will. Maybe the Hawk table is bigger, I do not know. Maybe the Hawk table will tilt more in both directions than the Hegner, I do not know.... Both are work horses, both are great saws and for what I do scrolling, I would be happy with either, I think. I have never had the privilege of scrolling with a Hawk... I sure would like to.. The major things to me on my Hegner are, if I need help/customer service for my Hegner it will be there, if I need parts they well be there.. Maybe/maybe not so much on the current Hawk... but the seems to be improving..
  16. Thank you and same to all the Village.
  17. Very nice!
  18. Okay,,, will you take my 25P Arctic Fox trailer also?
  19. @Rolf Glad for your response .. Always look forward to your in put on Hawk saws..getting pretty old but maybe someday I will get to own one.
  20. Ahhh come on,,,,!! you need your wife's approval.... pardon me a minute, she is in the room.. Okay never mind... I rule my castle....
  21. Sorry,,,, My bad... bad day... overloaded on politics and maybe a little too much other stress lately... Ignore my outburst.... proceed,,,
  22. My gosh... I come here to get away from politics,,, all kinds of places to talk politics other than a scrolling forum but here we have 2 pages of response on no politics.. We all just cannot let it go.... I was the one that recently complained to Travis about a political thread,,, he shut it down.. but here we are... on an on... I guess I do not fit in here any more...I get my political fix at political forums and fake new out lets,,,not on the wood working forums I belong to... guess I need a break... let me know when Believe me I am political, but I pick the appropriate places...
  23. Okay... Dick,,, you brought a tear to my eyes with... I know she will love your art.. Congratulations to you and Sharon... I do not know how she survived it...!! Not far behind you,,, we are headed for 55 this next year..
  24. Man, I am glad I do not have to pick which I like better, the painted one or this one.... Like them both,,, great job,,,,,, again!
  25. I break more Pegas blades than FD. But they seem to break at the time I am thinking I need to change the blade because I am having a harder time controlling it do to wear.. Seems to me have a tendency to snap when worn, where as other blades do not... May just be my imagination. Never worried about it, I get my use out of them...
