  1. Good job on day 1. Day 2 will be as good. Keep us posted please.
  2. Good luck with the 2 day show. Nice work cutting the Grinch too.
  3. Just to add to the pot. Seyco sells the 21" replacement for the Excalibur. I have an EX-21 and just did a warranty claim with Ray. No issues at all. I understand there are differences but with the kind of customer satisfaction he provides I figure it is well worth mentioning
  4. Welcome to the village Edward. Paul gave some great advice. Start with something simpler and get the feel for things. Blades, movement, control and the like. There are some simple patterns around to help get you started. Starting of on something like this could take away from the fun you will. Also you will learn tons of things along your learning journey. But please keep in mind if you have a question feel free to ask. With time, patience and experience you'll work your way to complicated patterns and enjoy them at the same time.
  5. Amazing and thanks for your support ti such a great cause.
  6. I have the original EX-21 stand still in it's box. I use a stand I built in my shop for mine. Works great so if your interested message me. I prefer the one I built personally.
  7. Thank you to all the veterans across this great land.It has been a honor to serve before, during or after you. Thank you for you service and dedication. U.S. Army 1973 - 1976
  8. There have been times when I finished a project just after changing the blade. Those blades I set aside with a piece of tape beside it marked to the blade size etc. When I reach for the blade later it moved on my workbench or fell on the floor or the Gremlins took it :). SO adapted a new policy in my shop. Out of the saw into the trash. At the price of blades I don't worry too much about it. Those Gremlins found other things to play with though
  9. Congrats Paul. Always nice to get bigger orders. I can understand the "low" as it is a lot of cutting but then we all love what we do
  10. I use a #3 Ultra reverse Flying Dutchman blades for this. Take your time, and let the blade do the work.
  11. High would be finishing a very detailed piece and getting the pattern off with out breakage. Low getting the last of the pattern off and dropping it High when a customer walks up and says I love that and want it Low when someone asks me to accept $50.00 for a &200.00 piece Low " What kind of Laser or CNC do you have " High the way their eyes go wide when they find out it is done by hand and scroll saw Low When you finish cutting a custom piece and realize a word is mis-spelled and nobody noticed. I will say that the highs out weigh the lows by far. Just the enjoyment of sitting at my saw and working is a huge high.
  12. Sorry to hear you had a tough show. I know what you mean about the promoters bringing in anything and everything. We experience that on this side of the state too. Keep the faith things will turn around.
  13. Congrats on a successful show and hats off to great work. You earned it.
  14. Have been watching him for a while. Great information in an understandable way
  15. Congrats on taking the first step in selling . I have been selling for a while and a clean organised display really helps. Greet your potential customers with a smile and hello. And don't be afraid to answer any questions they may have. Vista print seems to be the way most people go, I use a local printing house. The wife and I like to support local small businesses though. As was stated, with Christmas coming up somethings in the spirit of the Holiday should help a lot. Best of luck and please keep us posted.
  16. Looks like a typical Yin-Yang which should be easy to find a pattern. The carving on top would be additional of course. Love the look and design of this
  17. The winter project for me would be The Last Supper in Intarsia. Over 800 pieces and very detailed. It's on my bucket list
  18. Depends on the size of the hole. Smaller ones I drill like less then 1/8". Using a backer board and sharp clean but is great sound advice. Most of them though I cut out.
  19. Nice job cutting that. Given the time of year it should sell well at crafts shows if priced right.
  20. Edward About 40% of my sales come from cards. Don't be afraid to show you accept them. Worked wonders for me and the comments from customers back it up.
  21. I use tape around the sides of my stacks. Then cover with blue painters tape and apply the pattern. As you can see there are many ways to do this. I think it is what works best for you. So try a few different ways and see what suits your needs
  22. Hi and welcome to the village. I'm not familiar with the Jet line of saws but a google search may help in finding a review. As Paul said, the dust blower should keep the cut lines free so you can see them while you work. Dewalts have a good reputation for the most part but not sure they are available in your area. Some have set up a box fan with a furnace filter on it so the air passes through the filter as the fan runs. Be careful with the very fine dust, not good to breath it in and from what I understand once in never out. So a good face filter will help with that. Being new remember to enjoy the time spent at your saw and never be afraid to ask questions.
  23. I spray mine. After 2 coats lightly sand them them then shoot them one last time. So a total of 3 coats of poly. Hope this helps you.
  24. Dave I stain mine then finish with poly. If you look at Steve Good's site I believe he has patterns up there for earrings. ASs for the hooks. I order mine online from a place on ebay. I'll have to find that info and I'll send it to you in a PM.
  25. Dave I cut mine from 1/8" BB. The wife says she can't feel them in her ears and sell very well at shows. Oh use surgical steel posts so they don't harm the ears.
