  1. Just a thought, in case you didn't get their flyers.
  2. I have never heard of this brand. Thanks. How expensive are they? Looks like a great saw. Ah! Now I see they are British. No wonder I've not heard of them.
  3. I'd definitely take it back. M/S should never go bad. Maybe weaken but not do that.
  4. Not anymore. Rigged election. Dead voters.
  5. Take it back where you bought it. We all have to start complaining and raising hell.
  6. We are not allowed m/s in the county where I live but are allowed to buy paint thinner. Which stinks. Air pollution? Who knows what the state morons think? Oops. No politics. Sorry.
  7. I've been using a spray bottle of Smirnoff as an antiseptic spray. It really works well.
  8. Me too Les but here on SSV it's like family and it just makes things so much easier. Somebody asks where to buy wood. That is no different than asking "how high is up?"
  9. @Annis, this is why I asked a long time ago for folks to add their location to their signature. It would make it so much easier for all of us to help folks if we knew where they are located. Unless I missed something above, I don't know where you are. I am in Southern California and if you want to buy a Hawk saw, I have a VERY good clean one that I will sell you for that same $475 that you mentioned. It has less than 25 hours on it and has all the good stuff on it. It shines like a brand new one. I would not be selling it but it is just too big for my little shop. It is a 226VS Ultra in MINT condition. I would go so far as to put a 1 year warranty on it. But, I don't know where you are.
  10. The Fasco motors are very easily spotted without having to look underneath. You can see them from the side. They are much larger in circumference than the other motors.
  11. I just my Woodcraft flyer in the mail today and they have Laguna tools at 10% off. Might be worth looking into.
  12. There is a lot to know regarding the Hawks and their history. They have gone through many owners and design changes. The blade holders, the arms and most importantly the motors. There are a few folks on here that can give you all the info you need to be an educated buyer on Hawk saws. Any of their older saws that have a very large motor with the name Fasco are saws to be leery of. They may or may not give you problems. My Hawk is a 226VS Ultra made in 2001. It has pretty much all the important updates on it. There are some that have come about since then but in my estimation none of them would have been a deal breaker. Ask questions and you will get your answers right here on SSV. Just don't jump in until you have become familiar with what to look for on Hawks. One of the important things to look at is at the rear of the saw where the tension adjustment is. There is a "V" shape machined into the lower are and a pivoting "V" block that rides in the spot. If the saw was not lubricated often, that becomes a wear point and would require sending the arm to Hawk for re-machining. That's just one thing to look for. Best of luck in your search.
  13. I bought my used Dewalt before I even knew there was a type 1 or type 2. I just thought in my mind that Dewalt would HAVE to be a good saw.
  14. I ca't speak for others but it seems to me that the limiting factor on any saw you buy will be the type of power you have. We here in the U.S. have 120 volt alternating current. In England it's something else. I have no idea what you may have. There is a long explanation somewhere here on SSV all about how the Excalibur has transitioned over the years. First they were made in Canada but then they were made in Taiwan. The much cheaper made EX's that are now made in China are marketed under a couple of names. You have to be very careful what you buy and it's vintage. I have two EX's. The 21 inch one was made in 2010 in Canada by General International. My 16" one was made in Taiwan also by G.I. but in their offshore plant. The Pegas is being made in the Taiwan plant and under the watchful eye of Swiss company that is building them. These will be great saws but I don't know if they have motors/electronics that will be compatible with what you have. Your safest best might be to locate a Hegner that was built for European use. Best of luck in your search. Do a lot of reading on whatever saw you decide on.
  15. Wow Doug, you said everything that I would have said. I started with a used Dewalt type 1 and did the bearings. It ran almost as smooth and quiet as my Ex. The Hawk are great saws but you must acquaint yourself with their weak spots. Same for the Hegners. But with that said, I would still go the used route because so many people buy scroll saws and rapidly lose interest due to the learning curve required and the quality of the saw they started with. All of my saws had very little usage. And after all the buying/selling I have very little invested.
  16. I see folks using a Laguna from time to time. I think in 16" but not sure. Too rich for my blood so I don't pay that much attention.
  17. It seems to me that these blades could be used in either direction if the teeth go both ways. Maybe not quite as well but it should work. Maybe that's the OP's problem. He might have been using them in the wrong direction. They would cut but try to go astray. Maybe???
  18. Les, I think you just glue in the waste areas. No need to separate.
  19. Les, I think you have a bit of most everything.
  20. Would the type/thickness of wood make a difference? Or the project itself?
  21. Thanks Paul. What I liked about the ROKR kits is that they are gear driven when finished. Turn the crank and watch all the mechanism turn. Pretty cool.
  22. I built a very low stand for my EX and I found an old office chair at one of the lots after they cleared the mobile home out. I brought it home and cleaned it up and at it's uppermost position, it's perfect. And I left the arms on it. I guess it all depends on the height of your saw. You might make a trip to Staples of Office Depot and sit in their office chairs. I see used chairs on Facebook Marketplace all the time for free on up. Never very much.
  23. I guess it was just a passing thought. I got a reply back from ROKR puzzles informing me that they do not sell any patterns but if I was to buy a kit, it would be my own business if I wanted to make up my own patterns. I must might do that. SOMEDAY!. I just really want that locomotive. It would look neat on my wall.
  24. That looks just like mine. Maybe I'm not using it to it's fullest extent.
  25. Thanks Dan. I emailed them with my question but you are right about doing it that way. Lots of parts and pieces. It's just a thought that ran through my quarantined mind.
