  1. I'm posting this here but if it needs to go somewhere else, please move it. I came across this advertisement for a laser cut model kit but I want to try making it on a scroll saw. Have any of you folks ever done this or even attempted it? I'm wondering if there are paper plans for this or something similar available. I've been doing a little bit of searching but so far I haven't found one like this. I was thinking it might be a project that could be worked on in between other stuff. A project to take your mind off of whatever you've been working on. And furthermore, I love trains.
  2. Yes, by all means. I'd love to see what it looks like. I've been tempted to poke a hole in mine and put a plastic tube through it. Just to sip some water once in a while.
  3. I understand your situation completely. Everybody has a different situation. That's why it's so ludicrous for them to keep saying we are all in this together. We may all be in the same storm but we are most all in different boats and some will make it far better than others.
  4. Good idea Les. They do that for gun sights too.
  5. Kevin, we go shopping at will. Some places demand a face covering but we have not been turned away anywhere. BUT we still have not been able to find good paper towels. Cheap ones are available at Walmart but those don't last long.
  6. Dick, all the Hawks have a spring loaded upper arm that will raise by itself when you either break a blade or undo the upper blade clamp. The arm has a spring at the rear of it and once you load the blade and adjust the tension, you should not have to mess with that adjustment again unless you change blade types/sizes. It is pretty much a constant.
  7. Or better yet, why no incorporate a similar item on their saws? I myself put the Jim Dandy arm lift on my Dewalt and it worked great. At only $25 it was a very good investment. Now, I have 2 Excaliburs so the subject is moot at my house.
  8. Yeah, Sears NEVER made anything of their own. Everything was made by whoever came in with the lowest bid.
  9. My hearing is bad enough now that I can't listen to much of anything without some sort of headphone/amplification. We listen to TV using two sets of TV Ears. We can each control our own volume. By the time I put on my dust mask, my glasses, my hat and my over-the-ears hearing aids, there is not much room left for any other stuff. My one gripe about my dust mask/respirator is that nobody has ever incorporated a straw/tube for drinking through. In order to sip coffee or water or my favorite beverage, I have to go through the whole riggamorole of taking everything off and putting it back on. PITA!
  10. I'm happy to hear that you had no overheating problem. That's the one thing that bothered me as there is some hot air coming out the back of the vac. Maybe I'll follow your lead with the velcro so it can be removed if necessary. Did you leave the bottle the size it was or shorten it? I was thinking of taking about 3 inches off the neck just to give me more room for the plumbing. Also, did you hook it up to your foot switch or turn it on and leave it run? I'm going to set mine up so that it runs with the saw.
  11. Les, that's the sort of deal I have been waiting to come along. I used to have one just like that but it was a Craftsman. The part I loved best is the spindle lock. You can put that spindle anywhere you want it and lock it there. I miss that feature so much. I'll have to get more serious about finding another one. There is one near me but they are asking way too much for it.
  12. I've been waiting for someone to ask. Those are my slide out/slide in handles for moving my saw.
  13. I have bought 2 MetroVacs on eBay and got one for under $50 plus tax and free shipping. When I set mine up I'm going to use a double outlet on my foot switch to activate both saw and vac so it doesn't run constantly.
  14. I can't help you but that's a nice clock. If you do locate the pattern please share the info.
  15. Not "Absolut". I only drink the cheap stuff. I found out many years ago that I can reach a level of drunkenness just as quick with the cheap stuff. Thunderbird, Boone's Farm. It all results in me driving the porceline bus. Anyway I hope this helps.
  16. 23 inches. My stand is 24" so it's gonna be tight but I can cut a little off the neck if necessary. I've gotta get a couple of pvc fittings to make 90 degree bends. I pretty much designed the plumbing for the upper and lower pickups. It's going to be cool.
  17. @Foxfold @Wilson142 here ya go. 3 pics. Not sure what order they will post in but in one pic you can see the convex end on the vac and the concave end of the OJ bottle. The next pic shows how well they mate together. I haven't hot-glued them yet. The 3rd pic is just to show that the bottle has the cap off of it. I used a hole saw to cut a hole in the bottom end of the bottle that matches the exhaust on the vac. Once I get everything figured out as to mounting etc. I'll glue them together and maybe shorten the neck on the bottle. I was blown away at how quiet it is with the bottle up against the vac without any seal so it will be even better once I hot-glue it together. The MicroVac is only 4" in diameter so it will fit up under my stand and not even be seen.
  18. Oh yes, for certain. I have been going to build some sort of table but hadn't decided on a design. Now yours is just right. I don't have room for anything any larger than yours. It will be a fun build. Thanks again for all your input here on the Village.
  19. Thanks Charley, I checked them out a couple days ago. I just have to wait a while before spending any money. Times are tough right now. Well, sorta tough.
  20. I bought a machine about 8 years ago from the Stratosphere in Vegas. Actually, I bought it in Fort Mohave Az. It has always worked great but about a year ago, I turned it off to save on electricity. The lights run 24/7. Anyway, the cmos battery went dead trying to keep the ram memory alive so I had to solder on a new one. Now, I've got a problem with it that is driving me nuts. But, I'll fix it. It may take me until the economy reopens but I'll fix it.
  21. I noticed when I had my Dewalt and the Fein hooked up to it that I had a lot of suction noise at the nozzles. Not sure how to go about taming that down but I'm think that if the bottom of yours with the funnel doesn't make as much noise, it's got to be the size of the opening of the top one. Mine was a 3/4" LocLine nozzle. I'm going to see what happens when I have my new set up installed. So far, I've not had time to do anything with it. I'm involved with trying to get my slot machine up and running. I had the coin battery that holds the ram memory go bad and I finally got around to fixing it but something else is wrong now. I'm about ready to S-can the whole thing.
  22. You can design it with an air bleed so you can control the amount of suction. A pvc water valve in the line is all you need. Adjustable.
  23. Yes, I will post a pic as soon as I get a chance. It probably won't work unless you have the "metro vac" type of vacuum. I have a couple other things that are priority today.
  24. My youngest son will be the one who will be interested. Once he gets his business really going good. This virus didn't help.
  25. Thanks for the explanation Charley. I'm going to put a Wixey on my wish list.
