    I put the packaging tape under the pattern. Sometimes, depending on what I'm cutting, I will put down blue tape, then the packaging tape and then glue the pattern to that. I only use the clear tape over the pattern when I'm cutting a compound project in order to keep all the pieces and parts together. Also, I use a lighted magnifier. That may help too.

    I'd love to see what you have come up with. Dust collection, for me, has become somewhat of a secondary hobby for me. I'm always looking for ways to improve on my situation because I have such a small shop and anything that I can do to "miniaturize" it is a good thing. Thanks in advance. I just did a google search on "amtek lamb" and found a bazillion pictures of different examples. I'm not sure what I am looking at. Maybe you could explain what it is, how it works, and how you knew to buy it when you came across it. Thanks again.

    I agree. But we are talking about wood cutting saws here. I can see using wax on a bandsaw for cutting wood as it's in contact with the wood much less time and also the wax might stay a while on the guide blocks too. I guess it's just another way to sell something to the scroller. Much like fishing lures are designed to catch the fisherman more than the fish. I once saw a device for "sharpening" golf tees. I imagine that they sold some because a true golfer will buy anything related to the game.

    Those are all beautiful Pete. Thanks for posting them. I love the last one with the plow horses. Reminds me of our time driving through the Amish country.

    Thanks for the great pics. I was wondering if you have given any thought to a "dust-deputy" type of dust catcher? I have mine set up similarly to yours but by running it through a DD, I don't have to get to the vac to empty it. I did a "stack" of them by using some old shelving that I had and I put the DD underneath the Fein. It's very easy to get to the DD to empty it but it will be years before I will have to.

    Like so many newbies, I bought every blade that anybody here on the forum talked up. I now have a bunch of blades that may never get used. I have a ton of Olson, PSWood, FD and some that I can't identify. But, just about all I use is the Pegas #3 or #5. I also have some #1's. I bought 2 gross of the blades that my maquetry instructor recommended. They are all 2/0. I bought them from Otto Frei but I don't think they sell them anymore. Mostly jewelry tools and parts.

    But, if you have no plans on gluing or finishing, does the wax help or is it conjecture?

    I recall that Iggy used as his ONLY blade the Olson Mach blades until he found the Pegas MGT. Now, unless he has changed again, that's all he uses.

    It must have something to do with that burr on the right side of the blades. Pegas don't have that. Another win for Pegas.

    First of all, welcome to the Village. Now, as to your problem, we might need a bit more info. And pics are always helpful. So, what brand/type of saw do you have, what blades and what wood? These all need to be answered. I know that I will hear different sounds when I'm cutting with or across the grain but not to the extent that you mention. Please add on here and we'll try to help. And the answer/s might help someone else who has had the same experience.

    I've never bought from them but it's always sad to see any source go out of business. I wonder if anybody could take it over.

    I was wondering about lubrication. I bought a saw and it came with a bunch of blades and big stick of wax that is labeled scroll saw blade lube. Any thoughts on this stuff? I've not used it yet and was afraid it might harm the possibility of finishing in some way.

    Rolf, ask them to put back in "Letters to the Editor" also. Letters might give them insight as to what folks like or dislike and what we want.

    There were quite a few of the low numbered issues that I wasn't able to get. How do you go about getting them digitally? I had no idea they were available that way.

    Kevin, I had the exact opposite experience. They bent over backwards to keep me happy. I recently bought all of the back issues and I'm thoroughly enjoying them. Actually I feel that the older magazines were better than the new ones. I really enjoy the "letters to the editor". Too bad they don't really do that anymore.

    I envy all of you "farmers". I always wanted to live that life but never got the chance. A few years ago our neighbors retired and bought a place in Tennessee that had been a tobacco plantation a century before. They bought 11 acres with a gorgeous restored farmhouse. It also included a 9 car garage/shed/lean-to. They are in " hog Heaven" and now have a bunch of critters and a wonderful garden. So I made this for them. It's really the first finished project I did so it's not very intricate. You all humble me by your work. This is a great topic Trevor. Thanks.
